CHAPTER 43

ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Two hours later, Ranjit, Maan and Vicky arrived in Khurana Mansion for lunch. Vicky went to call Pitamber, Vaidehi and Yash for lunch. Meanwhile Priya had arrived with Sahil to take Annie back to Mishra Residence. Priya and Sahil were sitting with Savitri Devi, Ranjit and Maan while Geet was serving tea and snacks to Priya and Sahil as they refused to have lunch with Khuranas. Once Pitamber, Vaidehi and Yash were seated, Priya said hesitantly to Savitri Devi, “Maaji, kya hum kal Geet ko “pag pheron” ki rasam ke liye le jaa saktein hain?” (Aunty, can I please take Geet tomorrow home for her “pag phera” ceremony?)

“Kya? “Pag pheron” ke liye? Haan kyun nahi? Inn chand dino mein Khurana Mansion mein itna sab kuch ho gaya hai ki hum bhu.......” (What? For “Pag phera” ceremony? Yes why not? Past few days so much has been happening in Khurana Mansion that I for....)

“Aaj Sahil wapis Amerika jaa raha hai iss liye hum Annie ko lene aaj aayen hain.” (As Sahil is leaving today for US, we thought of bringing Annie home today.)

Yash shifted in his seat hearing about Annie leaving and opened his mouth and was about to say something but Maan’s angry glare with his blood shot eyes,

made Yash close his mouth and sit back on the sofa. Geet politely left from the family lounge towards the kitchen. Stealthily Sahil also crept behind her which Maan noticed and quitely slipped away seeing Ranjit, Pitamber, Yash and Vicky busy talking; as well as Savitri Devi, Vaidehi and Priya busy talking.

Just as Maan had anticipated, Sahil blocked Geet’s way while going to the kitchen. “Geet, I want to say “sorry” to you and Maan; and also ask for your forgiveness.”

“Sahil, I forgive you but I can’t say anything on Maan’s behalf. Unfortunately I can’t forget your behaviour towards my husband and me therefore our friendship is over.” Geet said in a firm icy voice.

“Geet don’t be so ruthless. I’m accepting my mistake.” Sahil said with guilt.

“Sahil, I’m glad that you’ve accepted your fault but friendship is like a silken thread which once broken cannot be brought back to its former glory even after a knot is tied. Please excuse me.” Geet side stepped and walked towards the kitchen.

Sahil turned to see Maan blocking his way. Straightening himself, Sahil said, “Maan, I’m sorry for trying to come in between Geet and you.”

“Sahil, remember I’m not a “forgiving” person. But this is the first and last time I forgive you for Geet, Ram Uncle and Priya Aunty’s sake. Ram Uncle and Priya Aunty have protected and looked after my Mishty for past 13yrs., hence I forgive “their” son. But from today onwards that obligation is over. From now onwards Geet is first MY WIFE than anything else. Anyone trying to harm her, insult her or cause her pain will be my personal enemy whether its you or any other family member of ours. Always remember, “MAAN SINGH KHURANA NEVER FORGETS.” Don’t you ever try to use My Mishty or my baby sister, Annie in your malicious and scheming tricks again.”

“Maan you are.......” Maan raised his hand palm facing outward thereby quitening Sahil. “Goodbye Sahil.”

Maan turned his back towards Sahil and walked towards the dining room. Maan and Sahil’s conversation was heard by Priya as she was on her way to meet Annie. As a mother Priya was disappointed and saddened that her son is being boycotted but as a woman and a wife she supported Geet’s actions.

Half an hour later, Annie left with Priya, Sahil and Sharda for Gharonda (Mishra Residence). Whereas Khuranas and Khannas sat for lunch. Maan made a glum Yash sit next to him. Geet with Nakul and Lallu was serving everyone when Deepak came carrying Khurana Mansion’s landline. “Bhabhiji, Adi bhaiya ka phone aayibe.” (Ma’am, there is a phonecall for you from Adi Sir.)

“Deepak, Geet ko kyun phone de rahe ho Adi ka phone Dad yaa mere liye aaya hoga.” (Deepak, why are you giving Geet Adi’s phone. Give it to Dad or me.)

“Chote Sahaab, Adi bhaiya kahibe ki koi chori daftar mein beemar bei.” (Maan Sir, Adi Sir especially asked for Ma’am as some girl is unwell in office.)

Geet took the phone from Deepak’s hand and left the room while Maan and Deepak were still arguing. “Haan Adi bhaiya, kya baath hai?” (Yes Adi bhaiya, what is the problem?)

“Geet, Pinky office mein behosh gayi hai. Maine paani ke chinte bhi daale magar woh hosh mein nahi aayi.” (Geet, Pinky has fainted in office. I’ve tried to revive her by sprinkling water but she has not gained her consciousness.)

“Bhaiya, aap chinta matt kariye, hum aa abhi rahe hain. Aap uske saath rahiye. Kissi ko reception par batta dijiyega ki hum aa rahen hain.” (Don’t worry! I’m just coming. Just inform someone in the reception about my arrival.)

Geet went to her room and was collecting her medical bag and anything else she may need when Maan walked in, “Mishty tum kahaan jaa rahi ho? Khaana toh khaa lo.” (Mishty where are you going? At least have your lunch?)

“Hummein abhi Khurana Construction jaana hai. Pinky ki tabiyat kharaab hai. Do you have *******5mg in your medical bag?” (I have to leave immediately for Khurana Construction . Pinky is unwell. Do you have *******5mg in your medical bag?) Geet rummaging through her bag for the medicine.

“No but I can organise.”

“Humare paas itna time nahi. Hum chalte hain.” (I don’t have so much time. I have to leave right now.)

“Mai tumhei......” (Ok. I will......)

“Aap ghar par rahiye aur abhi Mamaji, Mamiji aur Yash bhaiya ko sambhaliye. Bass hummein ek car de dijiye jiss se Khurana Construction ki security hummein bina time waste kare ander gussne de!” (No you stay at home. Keep Uncle, Aunty and Yash calm. Just organise a car for me which can enter Khurana Construction easily without Khurana security’s delay!)

“Theek hai chalo.” (Fine. Come with me.) Maan and Geet reached portico when they saw Ranjit and Vicky coming. “Dad, where are you both going?”

“Maan, I’m going to office. Vicky is going to bring Dr. Budhiraja here.”

“Anything serious?”

“No.” But Ram looked in Geet’s direction who was busy finding something from her bag. Maan understood that its related to Yash and Annie’s marriage. Maan then remembered something and said, “Dad, kya aap Geet ko bhi apne saath Khurana Construction le jaayenge? Kyunki Pinky ki tabiyat kharaab hai.” (Dad, can you please take Geet with you to Khurana Construction? As Pinky is unwell.)

“Sure why not?” Ranjit and Geet left together for Khurana Construction.

Fifteen minutes later Ranjit and Geet reached Khurana Construction lobby. Ranjit was about to get out of the car when his phone rang. Ranjit indicated Geet to carry on and he will follow. Geet also decided to go ahead as Adi was getting tense and Pinky was still unconscious. She had just crossed the main entrance glass door of Khurana Construction, but before she could go towards the reception a peite woman dressed in a figure hugging micro mini dress with loud make up stopped Geet saying, “Who are you? Whom do you want to meet?”
