CHAPTER 40

ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.

After feeding Annie, Geet went to Pitamber and Vaidehi’s room to call them for dinner. Pitamber and Vaidehi were spending few days with Vaidehi’s cousin before they left for US. But before Geet could knock on the door, she heard heated voices.

“Aap dono mujhse chahte kya hain?” (What do you both want from me?)

“Beta baath yeh hai.......” (Yash, listen........) Pitamber tried calming the situation.

“Mom did not want me to talk to Anj...Kavyanjali. I’ve not done so. I’ve even spent majority of my time in my room so I don’t come in contact with Annie. Now bhabhi is even sending Annie to Switzerland.”

“Yash beta, baat samjho. Geet jo kar rahi hai Annie ki bhalayi ke liye kar rahi hai jaise hum tumhari bhalayi ke liye kar rahe hain. Annie, Geet ki behan hai toh woh yahaan aayegi aur rahegi. Aur tum Maan ke bhai ho iss liye tum bhi yahaan aaoge aur rahoge. Magar ek baar tum Sushila Sharma ki ladki Parineeta yaani Pari se shaadi kar lo phir jab tumhara mann kare tum yahaan aana aur rehna.” (Yash, try and understand son. Geet is doing what’s right for Annie. Similarly we are doing whats right for you. As Annie is Geet’s sister she will always be coming here and staying with Geet and so will you as Maan’s brother. But once you get married to Mrs. Sushila Sharma’s daughter, Parineeta or Pari you can stay here as long as you want.)

“Bass Mom aur Dad, abb aur nahi! Aap dono ko mujhe apni ungliyon par nachana accha lagta hai. Aur Geet bhabhi ne bhi bina Annie aur mere emotions ko samjhe faisla kar diya hain. Abb tak aap teeno ne apna faisla sunnaya hai toh kal aap teeno mera bhi faisla sunniyega. Aur uss faisle ko aap teeno badal nahi paayenge.” (Enough Mom and Dad no more! You both like making me dance on your tunes. Now even Geet bhabhi is also doing the same without giving any thought to Annie and my feelings has just taken a decision. Very well you three have given me your ultimatums, tomorrow I will give you my ultimatum. Which you three will be unable to change.) Yash pushed open the door with force (Geet just hid herself in time) and slammed the door hard before leaving the room.

Geet was shocked seeing Yash’s anger for the first time. She did not know what to do? Who to talk? If she told Maan, he would say in his philosphical manner that “Yash is an adult and can handle his problems”. She doesn’t want to involve Ram and Priya now in Annie and her problems anymore especially after the way Sahil behaved today. Although she is close to Savitri Devi and Ranjeet but Pitamber and Vaidehi are their relations whereas Geet is still a stranger i.e. newly wedded bride.

She was still in her thoughts and walking towards the kitchen when she banged into a muscular chest. “Mishty, kya hua? What is worrying you?” (Mishty, what happened? What is worrying you?)

“Yash bhaiya.” Geet answered in a trance.

“Kya?” (What?)

“Kuch nahi hum khaana lagate hain, aap sabko khaane ke liye bulaiye.” (Nothing. I’ll serve the dinner and you call everyone to the dinning room.) Geet said coming out of her trance.

“Geet tum theek toh ho?” (Geet are you alright?) Maan peered at Geet’s face intently.

“Haan. Aap sabko khaane ke liye bulaiye. Bahur der ho gayi hai.” (Yes I’m fine. You please call everyone for dinner. Its already very late for dinner.)

Hence, everyone was sitting for dinner finally at 09:45p.m. Although Geet wanted to serve food but seeing Geet’s pale face, lack of food and exhaustion of the day, Maan forcibly made Geet sit next to him and eat. “Pitamber aur Vaidehi, tum log kab nikal rahe ho Gurpreet ke ghar ke liye?” (Pitamber and Vaidehi, when are you both leaving for Gurpreet’s home?) Savitri Devi asked.

“Bass khaana khate hi nikal rahe hain.” (We will leave after dinner.)

“Chalo accha hai. Raste mein Ram, Priya, Sahil aur Annie ko bhi chodh dena.” (Excellent, so you can drop Ram, Priya, Sahil and Annie on the way.)

“Dadimaa, kya hum aaj Annie ko apne paas rakh sakte hain?” (Dadimaa, can Annie stay with me tonight?)

“Guddo, Annie ko humare saath jaana hoga kyunki kal Psychiatrist aa raha hai.” (Guddo, Annie will have to leave with us as tomorrow morning her Psychiatrist is coming.) Priya answered.

“Theek hai Maa.” (Alright Maa.) Rest of the dinner finished without any snag.

As there was maid Sharda with them therefore Ram, Priya, Sahil, Annie and Sharda were dropped in Khuranas’ SUV. Whereas Khannas were dropped by Vicky to their relatives in a sedan car. Kapoors entered Mishra Residence at 11:00p.m. Annie was already half asleep so Priya said, “Sahil tum apne Papa ko kapade badalne mein madatt karo. Mai abhi Annie ko sula kar aateen hoon.” (Sahil, you help your father to change while I make Annie sleep.) Priya said in a curt voice surprising Ram and Sahil. After twenty minutes Priya entered with Ram’s medicine and tea for Sahil and herself. Once Ram had his medicine, Sahil was sipping his tea Priya said, “Sahil aaj tumne apne Dad aur mera sar shram se jhukka diya hai.” (Sahil, today you have made your father and my head bow in shame and embarassment.)

“Mom what are you.......”

“Kyun tum Geet aur Maan ki ek din purani shaadi todhna nahi chah rahe the?” (Why? Weren’t you trying to break Maan and Geet’s one day old marriage?)

“KYA?” (WHAT?) Ram was shocked.

“Warna Geet apne ghar aane se kyun manna karti?” (Otherwise why has Geet refused to come to her maiden home?)

“Woh toh iss liye kyunki uski patient serious hai. Aur Dhanvantri Hospital, Khurana Mansion ke paas hai.” (That was because she had a serious case in hospital. And Dhanvantri Hospital is nearer to Khurana Mansion.)

“Bewakoof matt banno Sahil. Pichle ek saal se har roz Geet yaheen se Dhanvantri Hospital jaa rahi thee. Woh toh Annie ko bhi aaj Khurana Mansion mein rok leti agar mujhe last minute Psychiatrist wali excuse naa milti.” (Don’t be imbecile Sahil. For past one year Geet has gone from this home to Dhanvantri Hospital. She even wanted Annie to stay with her in Khurana Mansion tonight had I not invented the excuse of Annie’s Psychiatrist visiting.)

“Priya, yeh kya ho raha hai?” (Priya, what’s going on?) Ram enquired getting confused.

Priya narrated everything from Sahil’s love confession to Annie being dressed as Geet. Priya concluded with tears flowing from her eyes, “Aaj mai ek Maa ke roop mein haar gayi hai.” (Today I’ve failed as a mother.)

Location : Maan’s room Khurana Mansion

Geet was in deep sleep. Geet was so tired that she fell asleep as soon as her head the pillow. Meanwhile Maan was hearing messages from hospital on his second phone. Maan had 2 mobiles one was for only personal use and one was for medical calls only. While he was clearing the voice messages he heard Sahil and Geet’s arguement which had occurred below Maan and Geet’s bedroom balcony. By mistake Geet had pressed recording button when she had come to remove phone charger from Maan’s phone so that she can charge her phone.

Yash was sitting his room in deep thoughts. Yash’s parents had asked him to wait for few years before he thinks about marrying Annie. Yash had grudgingly agreed thinking that his parents needed time to get used to this idea of Yash and Annie’s wedding. Then they slowly started emotionally blackmailing him not to talk or spend time with Annie and if he does so he will see his mother’s dead face. As if this was not enough today his mother was showing him photographs of prospective brides. Now even Geet bhabhi is planning to send Annie away from him to Switzerland. But ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! His love and life will not be manipulated by others even if they are his family! He will try to convince Geet bhabhi first and last time tomorrow to let Annie and him get married otherwise he will kidnap Annie and run away.
