CHAPTER 39
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.

Once Priya, Annie and Vicky had left, Geet closed the door and locked it from inside. “Abb se jab bhi aap tyaar hone yeh darwaaz bandh rakhiyega.” (From now onwards keep this door locked when you are getting ready.)
“Maine toh.......” (But I had......) Maan decided to keep quite seeing his wife’s mood. Dr. Vijaylakshmi had already called and informed Maan about his wife’s volatile state of mind. “ Geet, tum fresh ho jaao tab tak mein tumhare liye coffee mangata hoon.” (Geet you take shower while I order coffee for you.)
“Thank you.” Saying Geet entered the washroom. Maan ordered two black coffees and some vegetable sandwiches. Maan had understood that Sahil was behind this prank of getting Annie dressed as Geet. But why?
Half an hour later, Geet came out of shower with shampooed hair and wearing a simple salwaar kurta.
Geet and Maan had their coffee and light snacks. Then Geet dried her hair and wore a simple but bright coloured saree with all her ‘suhaag chinh’.
Geet was about to leave for living room when Maan asked, “Geet mai yeh toh samajh gaya ki Sahil ne Annie ko saree pehnayi jiss se woh tumhari tehre lage. Magar kyun?” (Geet I have understood that Sahil made Annie wear saree so that she looks like you. But why?)
“Aap abhi bhi nahi samjhe?” (You still have not understood?) Geet asked surprised. Maan nodded ‘no’ looking very confused. “Aap bahut bhole hain. Sahil ko laga thaa ki aap akele hain aur aap Annie aur humare mein antar (difference) nahi kar paayenge. Aap Annie ko hummein samjhkar pyaar karen jisse dekh kar hum krodhit ho jaayenge aur aapse “talaq” le leinge. Upar se aap tabh hi naaha kar nikale the aur bina kapadon ke the jiss se Sahil ka aap par charitheen hone ka ilzaam aur bhi mazboot ho jaata.” (You are really innocent. Sahil felt that you won’t be able to distinguish between Annie and me. You will become intimate with Annie thinking its me and when I’ll see this, I’ll divorce you in a fit of rage and jealousy. As you had just come out of shower, you were bare body as well thereby making his accusation of your being “characterless” even stronger.)
“KYA? Magar mai tum mein aur Annie mein farq jaanta hoon.” (WHAT? But I can distinguish between Annie and you.)
“Yeh hum jaante hain, Sahil nahi. Accha abb hum chaltein hain neeche sab humara intezaar kar rahe honge.” (This I know but not Sahil. Ok now I’ll go downstairs as everyone is waiting for me.)
“Mai bhi tumhare saath chalta hoon.” (I’ll also come with you.)
Both Maan and Geet went downstairs together with Maan’s muscular arm encircling Geet’s waist. Seeing Maan and Geet arrive together with Maan’s arm around Geet’s waist and Geet looking radiant Savitri Devi, Ranjit, Ram and Priya were very happy and relaxed. There was only one person unhappy with this and that was Sahil but he kept quite. Geet and Maan sat near Savitri Devi. Ram broached the topic, “Maa aur Ranjeete kya aaj raat hum apni Guddo ko uske maiyke le jaa saktein hain?” (Maa and Ranjit can I please take our Guddo with us tonight?)
Before Savitri Devi could answer Geet answered, “Papa, hummein maaf kijiyega ki abhi hum Gharonda nahi aa sakten kyunki hospital mein ek bahut serious case. Uss hi case mein yeh aur hum subah se uljhe the. Dhanvantri Hospital, Khurana Mansion ke paas padhta hai. Iss liye hum ek hafte baad Gharonda aayenge.” (Papa, I’m sorry that I can’t come with you three to Gharonda tonight. Because I have a serious case in which both Maan and I’ve been busy since morning. Dhanvantri Hospital is nearer to Khurana Mansion than Gharonda. Therefore, I’ll visit Gharonda a next week.)
Ram was disappointed but understood and said, “Jaisa tum theek samjho beta.” (As you wish my dear.)
“Papa, agar aap aise mayoos honge toh hum abhi aapke saath chalte hain magar hummein kal subah-subah lautna padhega. Aapke liye woh theek hai?” (Papa, if you are going to be sad and depressed, I’ll come with you right now. But I’ll leave early tomorrow morning for hospital. Are you fine with that?)
“Nahi. Guddo, jab bhi tu aaye kuch din shaanti se rehna.” (No. You come when you can spend with us few days peacefully.) Ram answered.
Just then Priya came near Geet and said, “Guddo, ek problem aa gayi hai.” (Guddo, there is a problem.) Priya and Geet left together.
Maan was talking to Savitri Devi, Ranjit, Ram and Vicky but was keeping a watchful eye on Sahil now and then. Maan’s patience was slowly getting exhausted regards Sahil’s impertinence. Maan made his mind to talk to Sahil face to face if again he tries to comes in between Geet and his married life.
Meanwhile Priya took Geet where Annie was with Sharda. Geet saw that Annie’s dress was soiled and she was crying nonstop. “Kya hua baccha?” (What’s wrong sweetie?)
“Annie, Geet didi se nahi baat karegi. Geet didi ne Annie ko itni zor se datta. Sahil bhai aur Annie sirf Maan bhai ke saath prank kar rahe the. Two days se Yogi Bear (Yash) bhi Annie se baat nahi kar raha. No one loves Annie!” (Annie is not going to talk to Geet didi. You yelled at me. Sahil bhai and Annie only wanted to play a prank on Maan bhai. Since two days even Yogi Bear (Yash) has not spoken to Annie. No one loves Annie!)
Geet gathered Annie in her arms and said, “Geet didi loves her baccha a lot. But today Didi had lot of work in hospital and was tired so got angry. I’m sorry.” Geet said holding her ears.
Annie hugged her and said, “Geet didi never leave Annie.”
“Geet didi will never to leave her Annie baccha. But now Annie has to take bath. See how dirty Annie’s dress is?” Leaving Annie with Priya and Sharda, Geet went and got Annie Geet’s everyday wear salwaar kurta for Annie to wear as the extra set of Annie’s which Sharda always carried was also soiled. Handing Sharda her clothes, Geet dropped Annie, Priya and Sharda to the guest room. Geet was on her way to the kitchen to see to last minute preparations for dinner when Sahil blocked her way.
“How are you doll?”
“Sahil, please come with me.” Geet said in a firm voice. Sahil was so elated hearing that Geet actually wanted to talk to him alone that he followed Geet without any doubt. Geet took Sahil to a courtyard which was below Maan and her bedroom but very quite. Although the courtyard was fairly in the centre of the house but no one use come there keeping Maan’s temperament in mind! “Sahil what were you trying to do today?”
“Geet what have I done?” Sahil said innocently.
“Sahil don’t pretend with me. I now feel that did I ever actually know you?”
“Doll you are unnecessary getting hyper it was just an innocent joke.”
“Sahil it was not “just an innocent joke” as you put it. It was a “well planned, manipulative and disgusting” trick. A trick in which you used my naive and innocent Annie as well.”
“Doll you are.......” Geet raised her hand palm facing outward thereby quitening Sahil.
“Sahil, I was empathetic with you as I know how it feels when one sees one’s beloved in the arms of another. But now I know that what you felt for me IS NOT LOVE. It maybe attraction, obsession, possessiveness or an emotion I’m too disgusted to say. However, from today and now our friendship is over.”
“Doll.......”
“Stop calling me “doll” and please call me “Geet” from now onwards.”
“How can you say our friendship is over especially when my Mom and Dad......”
“Unfortunately due to your this disgusting behaviour I will be forced to hurt Chote Papa and Choti Maa.”
“Aakhir maine aisa bhi kya gunah kar diya hai?”
“Sahil each relationship comes with boundaries whether its parents, siblings, friends and families. These boundaries become even more pronounced when your loved one is married. For e.g. a child whether boy or girl has no right to read a personal letter, e-mail or Whatsapp between her/his parents; similarly parents have no right to read a personal e-mail or Whatsapp message between their married child and their spouse; also parents cannot enter their married child’s bedroom without knocking etc. Today Sahil you’ve tried to cross that boundary. But always remember that as long as Geet is alive no one can touch “Geet’s Maan” not even the Almighty!”
“I accept that you love that Maan Singh Khurana. But how can you be so sure he loves you? You stopped Annie before you could see the proof that Maan Singh Khurana can’t distinguish between Annie and you. Therefore, now what is the proof? ”
“PROOF? I don’t need any proof. But you always do? Come with me.”
Geet took Sahil to a small garden near Maan’s study. Annie was sitting dressed in Geet’s salwaar kurta playing with Sharda and her doll.
Geet called Maan on his mobile, “Kya aap study ke paas aa saktein hain?” (Can you come near study?)
“Haan aa raha hoon. Tum theek ho?” (Yes I’m coming. Are you alright?)
“Haan hum theek hain aap chinta matt kariye.” (Yes I’m fine. Don’t worry!) Geet called off.
After the call, Geet saw Nakul passing by and told him to take Sharda and give her someting to eat. Geet told Sharda not to worry as she (Geet) will be with Annie. Soon footsteps were heard and Geet and Sahil hid behind a pillar. Maan came near and said, “Annie, tum yahaan akele kya kar rahi ho? Geet kahaan hai?” (Annie, what are you doing sitting here all alone? Where is Geet?)
“Maan bhai, Geet didi Annie ka dinner lene gayi hai.” (Maan bhai, Geet didi has gone to get Annie’s dinner.)
“Accha koi baath nahi tum mere saath chalo chutki. Mai tumhein Priya Aunty ke paas le jaata hoon.” (Alright you come with me, I’ll take you to Priya Aunty.)
Unable to test Maan anymore Geet came from behind the pillar. Luckily Nakul was coming with Annie’s dinner which she took from Nakul so it looks that she is coming from the kitchen. “Sorry, sorry Annie baccha I’m late.”
“Annie is angry on Geet didi. Two days se Yogi Bear (Yash) bhi Annie se baat nahi kar raha. No one loves Annie!” (Annie is angry on Geet didi. Since two days even Yogi Bear (Yash) has not spoken to Annie. No one loves Annie!)
Surprising Maan as he was hearing Annie first time mentioning Yash since Maan and Geet’s wedding. But now Maan understood why Geet is so concerned about Yash’s whereabouts. “Aap jaayiye hum abhi Annie ko khaana khilake aate hain.” (You go now I’ll feed Annie and come.) Sahil had slowly slipped away from behind the pillar after seeing that Geet was right and Maan could distinguish between Geet and Annie.
