CHAPTER 37
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.
ALL THE PHOTOGRAPHS DOWNLOADED DO NOT BELONG TO ME BUT BELONG TO THE ORIGINAL UPLOADER. I HAVE JUST USED THEM AS THEY GO WITH MY STORY!
P.S. Any medical procedure or disease shown in this story is NOT TRUE. Medical procedure or disease is entirely from my imagination. As I’m neither a para medical staff nor a doctor or surgeon!
After talking to Rahul Chawla, Geet entered Dr. Maan Singh Khurana’s cabin. Maan was surprised seeing Geet entering his cabin as he was following his wife. Geet entered the cabin first followed by Maan. Geet turned to find Maan there. Seeing Geet’s face Maan realised something is wrong hence he locked his cabin door from inside. “Kya hua Mishty? Tum pareshaan kyun ho?” (What happened Mishty? Why are you so tense?)
Hearing “Mishty” from Maan’s mouth, Geet self bravado failed and she ran towards Maan and hugged him tight crying hysterically.

Maan hugged Geet tightly and rubbed Geet’s back to calm her then said softly, “Kya ‘Maan ki Geet’ apne Maan ko apni pareshani nahi battayegi?” (Will “Maan’s Geet” not tell Her Maan what is the problem?)

“Hummein darr lag raha hai.” (I’m scared.)
“Kiss baath ka?” (Scared of what?)
“Ki agar hum Tanya Chawla ko baccha nahi paaye?” (What if I’m unable to save Tanya?)
“Tumhein aisa kyun lag raha hai?” (Why do you have such doubts?)
“Kyun Tanya ka weight sirf 42Kgs. hai. Doctor’s manual ke hisaab se do surgeries ke liye weight kamse kam 50-52Kgs. hona chahiye.” (Because Tanya only weighs 42Kgs. According to Doctor’s manual, the patient has to weigh minimum 50-52Kgs. If double surgery has to be performed.) (WRITER’S LIBERTY!)
“If you do only C-section now and removal of cancerous cells from cervix later?”
“We can’t wait it will be life threatening for the patient, Tanya.”
“Hence, either way its life threatening for the patient. Whether you operate or not? You don’t have much choice?”
“Yes.” Geet said in a helpless and defeated manner.
“Then go and perform the surgeries. Maybe Tanya’s heart is not as weak as it looks. Maybe she pulls through the surgery. I’m with you all the way.”
Geet again hugged Maan tightly and gave him a peck on his lips but Maan was not satisfied with that. Maan smacked his lips on Geet’s and kept kissing her until she was breathless.

Just then there was a knock on the door and Dr. Vijaylakshmi’s voice said, “Anjali, you are needed in the OT.”
“Yes Ma’am.”
Maan opened the door and Dr. Vijaylakshmi entered. Looking at Geet up and down said, “Anjali, you will have to remove your mangalsutra?”
“MANGALSUTRA??”
“Yes its metal. Please hurry.”
“Yes Ma’am.” Looking at Maan she said, “Kya aap ‘yeh’ (pointing to the mangalsutra) humare gale se nikaal saktein hain?” (Can you please remove ‘this’ (pointing to the mangalsutra) from my neck?)

Maan took out the mangalsutra from Geet’s neck and put it in his waist coat pocket. Geet bent down touched Maan’s feet and left.
Location: Operation Theatre (OT)of Dhanvantri Hospital

Dr. Vijaylakshmi and Geet were in the OT and Maan was on call. Anaestheologist gave the anaesthesia to a scared and anxious Tanya Chawla. Dr. Vijaylakshmi started the surgery and in 15mins the baby was born. Nurses cleaned the baby and left with the newborn. While Dr. Vijaylakshmi left to grab a cup of coffee leaving Geet and matron to see when Tanya partially comes out of the effect of anaesthesia. Once Tanya responded to Geet’s call, the Anaestheologist again administered extremely mild dose of anaesthesia. Half an hour into the surgery as was expected patient started sinking i.e. heart beat started reducing. Dr. Vijaylakshmi was assisting Geet and asked matron to call “Dr. Maan Singh Khurana SOS.” Maan entered and immediately stabilized the patient. An hour later, Geet sutured (stitched) the open site (wound) bringing relief on faces of Dr. Vijaylakshmi and Dr. Maan Singh Khurana. “Thank you Dr. Khurana for your prompt action in stabilizing the patient. I suggest you brief the patient’s family. Matron will help you.” Dr. Vijaylakshmi thanked Maan and ordered the matron. Maan threw his soiled gloves in the medical trash and looked towards Geet but found her calm and collected though tired, ordering OT nurses. Geet was ordering the nurses to wheel in the patient in the adjacent recovery room. Geet threw her surgical gown and gloves in the medical trash bin and came out of the Operation Theatre (OT) looked around the corridor to find Dr. Vijaylakshmi and Maan briefing the patient’s husband and mother-in-law. Geet decided to go to Doctor’s quarters and freshen up. While Geet was showering, she realised that her mangalsutra is still with Maan and she needs to wear it before she enters Khurana Mansion. After showering and donning a pair of fresh clothes, she knocked and entered Maan’s cabin after being given the permission. On entering the cabin she saw Dr. Shashank Gupta, Dr. Vijaylakshmi and matron also present having coffee.
“Dr. Mishra, Congratulations on doing such a tough surgery!” Dr. Shashank Gupta and matron congratulated. Then matron left.
“I’m not the only one responsible Sir. Congratulations should be given to Dr. Chandrashekhar and Dr. Khurana. Dr. Gupta I’ll accept your Congratulations only once my patient is on her road to recovery!”
“I agree.” Dr. Shashank Gupta said but congratulated the other two.
Looking at Maan, Geet said, “Humara Mangalsutra?” (My Mangalsutra?) Maan took it out of his jacket and put it around her neck.
“Geet beta, maaf karna ki Meera aur mai, kal Maan aur tumhari shaadi mein nahi aa paaye.” (Geet, I apologise for Meera and my being unable to attend your wedding yesterday.)
“Koi baat nahi Sir, aap shaam ko toh aa gaye the. Sir, Ma’am aur aap (looking at Maan) please Dadimaa ko matt battaiyega ki humne operation ke time mangalsutra nikala thaa.” (It doesn’t matter Sir. At least you joined us in the evening. Sir, Ma’am and Maan (looking at Maan), I have a request please don’t mention in front of Dadimaa that I had removed my mangalsutra at the time of surgery.)
“Magar OT mein toh jewellery manna...........” (But its forbidden to wear any jewellery in OT so.......)
“Hum jaante hain Sir magar Dadimaa ke dil ko thess lagegi.” (I know Sir but Dadimaa will feel betrayed.)
“Theek hai nahi battaonga.” (Alright I won’t tell.)
“Meera kaisi hai?” (How is Meera?)
“Theek hai beta magar abhi bhi kamzori hai.” (She is fine but very weak.)
“Anjali, I think you should go home and rest. You have been here for past eight hours and not even had your lunch.” Dr. Vijaylakshmi said looking at pale and tired Geet.

“I agree Geet.” Maan also supported Dr. Vijaylakshmi. Just then Maan’s phone rang. “Ji Dadimaa. Operation abhi khatam hua hai.” (Yes grandma. Operation has just got over.) Maan was listening to Savitri Devi but by action asked Geet how long will she stay? Geet also answered by actions doesn’t know. “Dadimaa, Geet ko toh abhi time lagega.......mai... magar.....accha.....theek hai batta doonga.” (Grandma, Geet will take time....I.....but....alright....I’ll inform her.) Maan kept the phone down. Looking at Dr. Vijaylakshmi, “Aunty, am I needed anymore or I can go home?”
“You can go home Dr. Khurana. I’ll try and send Anjali as soon as possible.”
“Alright.” Maan started gathering his things while Dr. Shashank Gupta and Dr. Vijaylakshmi quitely slipped away leaving husband and wife alone. Hearing the door close Maan looked up and saw Geet and himself alone in the cabin. “Geet, Ram Uncle, Priya Aunty, Sahil aur Annie aaj shaam ko KM aa rahe hain tumhei ghar le jaane ke liye. Dadimaa keh raheen theen ki shaadi ke baad dulhan ko apne ghar ek baar jaana hota hai koi rasam hai.” (Geet, Ram Uncle, Priya Aunty, Sahil and Annie are coming today evening to KM to take you back home. Dadimaa said that there is some custom in which bride has to go back to her maiden home.)
“Pag phere ki rasam.” (Custom of Pag phere.)
“Haan. Kuch aisa hi magar mai nahi chahta ki tum abhi jaao. Teihra saal baad hum milen hain aur woh bhi ek din ke liye.” (Yes. Something like that but I don’t want you to go. We have finally come together after 13yrs. and that too for one night.) Maan hugged her tightly.

“Chinta matt kariye, hum kaheen nahi jaa rahe. Magar aap ghar jaayiye. Naa-dhokar tyaar huye, hum aate hain. Ek baat aur.” (Don’t worry! I’m going nowhere. But you go home, take a shower and get ready. I will be back soon. One more thing.)
“Kya?” (What?)
“Stay alert in Sahil’s presence.”
“Why? What can he do?”
“I don’t know but I have a feeling that he is going to play a prank on you or me or both of us.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care.” Maan pecked Geet’s lips then picked up his medical bag. Both husband and wife stepped out of the cabin.
