CHAPTER 31

ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, RELIGIOUS TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, hospital/office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE.

Composing herself, Geet left for the kitchen. It was Saturday and now that her Chote Papa, Choti Maa and Sahil were here. Along with Dadimaa, Baba (Ranjit), Her love (Maan) and Yash bhaiya also being there proper lunch had to be made. Geet decided to make Khitchri for Ram and anyone else who would like light food. Channe ki dal and palak paneer for Maan; aloo gobhi, rice and mixed veg. raita (Ranjit) completing the meal. Phulkas or rotis will be made fresh when everyone was having lunch. An hour and a half later, lunch was going to be late i.e. 03:00p.m. as there had been lot of excitement and stress for the whole family. Geet had come with Bhola and Gauri carrying Ram’s lunch. While Priya was serving Ram’s lunch and seeing to his need, Sahil took Geet to the attached balcony of Ram and Priya’s room “How are you doll?”

“Sahil, I’m fine. Sorry to have put the whole Kapoor family through so much trouble.”

“No worries doll. What are friends for? Geet now that you have got your memory back I need to talk to you on an important topic.”

“Sure Sahil since when have you been so formal?”

“Geet, I love you and I want to marry you.”

“LOVE? MARRIAGE?”

“Please Geet marry me I’ll keep you very happy.”

“Sahil, I never knew you were harbouring such feelings of attraction for me.”

“Geet its not attraction its love!”

“I’m sorry to hurt you Sahil. I never felt anything for you except friendship. The only person I’ve ever loved in my whole life is My Maan, my husband.”

“You mean Dr. Maan Singh Khurana?”

“Yes.” Geet said with a dreamy look in her eyes.

“But he is so much older to you. Besides, he is not your husband any longer as he has been seperated from you for past 13yrs.”

“Humara rishta iss janam ka nahi, janam-janam ka!” (Our relationship does not conform to this life but to all our past, present and even future lives!)

“Geet now you and Dr. Khurana are in infatuation.”

“Nahi yeh sach nahi. Hum dono ka rishta jismaani nahi ruhaani hai!” (This is not true. Our relationship is not tangible but eternal!)

“Geet, you are behaving like a sixteen year old besotted fool.”

“Sahil when you are in true love, so would you.”

“How are you so certain that Dr. Khurana truly loves you?”

“He confessed his love to me.”

“But what is the proof?”

“PROOF? I don’t need any proof.”

“Then how can you be so certain that he is not lying?”

“I don’t need any proof of Maan’s love but for your sake I’ll give you the proof. Eleven years back when my car fell off Black Mountain rail, you all accepted truth about my death slowly and painfully even Annie. Right?” Sahil nodded in affirmative. “Then six months later Papa and Maa introduced me as Kavyanjali or Annie and you accepted it whole heartedly not questioning even once. Right?” Sahil again nodded in affirmative. “But three years back when I met Maan first time after 10yrs. since our marriage and seperation he refused to accept me as anything else except His Mishty, his love and his wife. In these three years he has moved heaven and earth in order to find out the truth about “Dr. Kavyanjali Mishra”. He was 100% sure that Dr. Kavyanjali is actually Dr. Geetanjali Mishra and he proved it to the world by making Papa confess truth about my existence to only Maan and no one else, NOT EVEN YOU!” Sahil was in deep thought not knowing how to react. Therefore, Geet left Sahil in his thoughts saying, “Sahil, I would like us to always remain as best of friends but if its very painful for you to accept me as a friend, I suggest we seperate now before we hurt each other, Papa or Maa.”

Unknown to Geet and Sahil, Maan and Priya had heard this conversation. Maan had come to make an urgent call to Sam regarding presence of Kulbhushan in their lives. Initially Maan was furious at Sahil audacity to propose to his wife

but when he heard Geet’s explaination and her indirect confession of her love for Maan, he settled down. Priya had also come to talk to Geet about her pre-wedding functions. Thereby making Priya shocked to know about Sahil’s feelings for Geet and Geet’s feelings for Sahil.

Meanwhile, unaware of this emotionally stressful conversation, Savitri Devi was planning with Ranjit, Ram, Yash, Vicky and few suggestion from Annie, Maan and Geet’s pre-wedding rituals. Maan, Sahil and Priya more or less simultaneously walked in. Savitri Devi at once asked Priya for some female related rituals resulting in men starting to talk amongst themselves. After 15mins., Geet walked in the room saying, “Khaana tyaar hai.” (Lunch is ready.) Sahil escorted Ram and Priya back to their room. While Geet guided Savitri Devi, Ranjit, Maan, Yash and Vicky along with Annie to the dining room. After sometime Sahil and Priya also joined everyone for lunch, leaving Ram in Bhola’s care. Once everyone was seated, Geet came carrying one silver thali followed by Lallu carrying another silver thali. Geet served the thali in her hands to Savitri Devi.

Then she took thali from Lallu and served Ranjit. Geet went around with Lallu serving dal, palak paneer etc. to everyone seated. After everyone was served, Maan got up and forcibly made Geet sit next to him and have lunch. Once Geet had served herself, Savitri Devi started the conversation.

“Aaj shaam ko 6:00 baje Maan aur Geet ki “Haldi” (Turmeric ceremony) hogi. Uske baad Maan aur Geet ek dusare se shaadi ke mandap par milenge. Yash, Vicky, Annie aur Sahil, aap bacchon ko dekhna hoga ki Maan aur Geet ek dusare aaj raat naa milen!” (Today evening at 06:00pm is Maan and Geet’s “Haldi” ceremony. Hence, after Haldi, Maan and Geet cannot meet each other until their actual wedding ceremony. Yash, Vicky, Annie and Sahil, you children please see that Maan and Geet don’t meet each other tonight.) Making Maan choke on his food while Geet rubbed Maan’s back.

“Dadimaa, what about Sangeet and Bachelor’s Party?” Vicky asked disappointed .

“Vicky, abhi Maan aur Geet ki shaadi jald se jald hona zaruri hai iss liye hum kewal zaruri-zaruri rasamein kar rahe hain. Isse pehle Kulbhushan phir se Geet aur Annie par dhaava (attack) bole!” (Vicky, currently its most important that Maan and Geet get married. That’s why we are quickly doing the important wedding ceremonies before Kulbhushan again tries to attack Geet and Annie!) While the above discussion was going on Geet was seeing the pure loving bond developing between Yash and her baccha, Annie. Geet was feeling relaxed that now Annie will also have Yash to protect her incase anything untoward happens to Geet. Just like Maan is there for Geet, making Geet look at Maan with deep and tender love which Maan didn’t notice as he was busy relishing Palak Paneer made by His Mishty.

“Haldi ke baad chura charahi hogi.”(After Haldi, there will be a ceremony of making bride wear chura. ) Savitri Devi’s voice brought back Geet to the present.

“Dadimaa, humare yahaan Chura nahi pehanaate.” (Dadimaa, in our state we don’t have ceremony of making bride wear chura.) Geet mentioned softly.

“Arre haan Mausiji, UP (Uttar Pradesh) mein toh Chura nahi pehanaate.” (Yes Auntie, in UP they don’t have ceremony of making bride wear chura.) Priya also confirmed.

“Theek hai toh ‘Haldi’ (Turmeric ceremony) ke baad “Mehendi” (Henna ceremony) rakh lete hain. Mehendi toh ladkiyon ka function hota hai iss Maan ki zarurat bhi nahi hai.” (Fine. Then after ‘Haldi’, there will be “Mehendi” (Henna ceremony). Henna is ladies’ function therefore Maan won’t be required.) Looking at her youngest grandson, Savitri Devi asked, “Vicky, Meera ki tabiyat kaisi hai? Kya woh “Mehendi” (Henna ceremony) mein aur Maan ki shaadi mein aa sakti hai?” (Vicky, how is Meera feeling now? Will she be able to attend “Mehendi” (Henna ceremony) and Maan’s wedding?)

“Patta nahi Dadimaa. Mujhe Vijayalakshmi Auntie se poochna hoga.” (I don’t know grandma I will have to ask Dr. Vijayalakshmi.) Vicky said seriously.

“Agar Meera aa sake toh accha hoga woh Maan ki beihan ki saari rasamein poori kar sakti hai.” (If Meera can come it will be great as she can do all Maan’s sister’s customs and rites.)

Soon dinner was over and everyone went to their respective homes or their rooms to rest. Maan on the sly had tried to slide into Geet’s room but Savitri Devi saw him and said, “Maan ghar chaliye aapko Haldi ke liye tyaar hona hai.” (Maan come lets go home you have to get ready for ‘Haldi’ (Turmeric ceremony))

An angry and frustrated Maan left with whole Khurana family for Khurana Mansion. Yash also had to leave as he was being repeated called by his parents.

As Geet had not slept the whole night, she fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow. Priya came and woke up Geet so that Geet can ready for “Haldi” ceremony.
