Just because Rani never went to PR overdrive doesn’t mean she wasn’t close to Aish in popularity. She was giving hits when Aish was delivering duds like Shabd, Dil Ka Rishta, Mistress of Spices etc. Rani always had public goodwill and it’s ridiculous to discredit her success just because of her association with YRF( She delivered the only hit for YRF last year).

Aish took a break for motherhood..and for some time focused on choices that gave her more time with family..she kept busy with appearances and ads..

Preity took time off to focus on her IPL team..

Tabu never stopped doing movies. Since start of her career she did films at her own pace and carved a niche for herself..she always was into variety of roles which were not necessarily lead or conventional heroine..and she is getting such roles even today.

Rani is a different case..she is YRF ki malkeen..she can get roles written for herself, produced by her banner and given the best treatment..all to ensure a hit. Her movies may be hit..but I don't see a hype for Mardani like say Manikarnika or Piku. It's in a way like those low budget movies who release without pomp and make profit.

She is definitely a good actress but it doesn't mean others were all hype and no substance

When the 3 you mentioned attempted to return after breaks, they flopped. That is the whole point here. Once the flush of youth passes, only talent sustains. HYPE is related to stardom, not acting. Long term success, OTOH, seems proportional to talent.

No production house can help. Or Kajol would've been churning out hits. She too has a production house capable of writing roles esp for her.

Re: the men. The theory doesn't seem to apply to them. My belief is that men take longer to visibly age. Plus, society is more accepting of older men. So by the time they reach the point they need talent to survive, they're usually walking with canes and peeing with catheters.

Rani is a terrific actress, and even in the early 2000's she was more popular than Ash....only Preity came close to her in popularity.

Rani is a perfect combination of star and really good actress, not many have it

Tabu, on the other hand, is in a different league when it comes to talent but she hardly has any star power. I think she is the best example of talent sustains but stardom fades

I loved preity way more than Rani. Preity messed up her face and decided to take a break from movies but when she came back to the movies, it was too late and especially with her Botox face.
