So not taking this otherwise “sensible” post seriously.

that will never happen..because with her lack of talent..anything she attempts will either tank like jazba or sarbjeet..or she will barely be in it like fannay khan

Rani and Priety lost their fanbase but Rani is MALKIN of YRF she will do role as per her wish ,Aish still comparatively trying to be relevent, Tabu never had aura of superstar, Kajol came out of her shell and start grooming herself which she never did before though that helicopter eella was yuck but both Aish and Kajol still consider for main lead,

the entire point is..resources can only work to an extent..you need talent too

any less capable actor and mardani..hichki..mardani 2 would have fared worse than jazba and sarbjeet

yrf has lost its sheen..they mostly rely on big stars like HR etc to do business

their name does not sell anymore..there have been numerous movies under YRF which could not even do 10cr lifetime..Meri piyari bindu..etc

so all i am saying is..rani's presence has also contributed to these successes..esp when these movies had her in lead central roles

Ya Rani is talented but she dosen't have fans, so outside YRF no one would take her for lead not even Red Chillies if they plan Badla 2 or Dharma,,,,, KJo took Aish in ADHM SRK took Kajol for Dilwale but no one is coming for Rani, Tabu, Preity recently Aish was approached for some movie with John Abraham too

Rani becomes so irrelevant good movie bad movie good performance bad one doesn't matters dont know what she lost

Aise fans ki kya faida jo apni favorite ki movie theater mein na dekhe!

Where rubber meets the road is, Rani is able to bring people to the theaters....That’s all should matter, no?

It's not about talent or stardom. It's about the aura that an actor exudes.

Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan still have that.

That's why SRK despite a disappointing decade for his standards still is above Akshay. In terms of raw box-office pull, it's still Salman, Aamir, HR, and SRK in that order. They are the only four bonafide stars in Bollywood today.

Agree 100% with OP. Looks/aura (Madhuri, Aishwarya)/hefty dose of cronyism (Kajol) can mask mediocre talent (Karisma)/utter laziness & lack of reverence for the craft (Juhi) for a few years because that's the nature of the beast.

Once age sets in, there's only talent left (Sridevi, Rani, Tabu). Yes, Sridevi still had the aura, but she was one in a million.

No matter how many times peeps mutter YRF, the name is not putting audience in the seats. It's the entertainment factor of the movie which matters, a major part of which happens to be the performance of its leads.

Doesn't seem to be the same for men, though.

Aishwarya is the leading lady in a Bahubali-esque franchise film at 50. Can't compare with Rani who relies on her home production to make movies for her.

To be very honest, while I agree with your title completely- that stardom fades but talent sustains, I don’t think I would put Tabu and Rani in the same level.

To be Tabu represents someone who rode this ride all by herself on her terms. For me, she is the ultimate house of talent. When she is on screen, there isn’t a single moment I question her presence, she is generous in her acting but at the same time has a quality that makes us want more. Each and every movie she has been in is testament. She is acting despite bollywood being a regressive content developer for women over 40 (like someone pointed out) because I think she is a powerhouse and has a certain humility, she gives herself to the craft, to the director.

Rani wasn’t the first choice in early days because again regressive Bollywood felt she was the least good looking among the actresses of her time. She continues to act because she has the advantage of being a producers wife. She is a terrific actress but has zero humility and it shows in her performances. What I mean is her characters don’t stay with me, she does.

End of the day, to really examine stardom vs talent, I don’t think it’s one actress vs the other. It is stardom vs talent in each actor or actress.

Which movie? IIRC, none of her recent movies have been hits.

Regardless, Rani is far more talented and is giving hits. Even YRF wouldn't have continued to make movies with her if her projects were losing money. The same movie might've been made with someone else who could do justice to the script. But yeah, I agree with the person who said her performances lack a certain humility. It's all about her.

Vidya Balan is also married to a producer. Doesn't take away from her talent. Same for Sridevi and her continued success. Tabu doesn't even have that but gave a Haider, an Andhadhun, and hopefully will continue doing good movies.

If having a production company were all it took, Kajol would also be churning out successes. So would Juhi.
