If we can cry or be shaken by small emotional moments on screen, why is it so hard to believe that a person can be emotionally affected by a tragic character whose pain and emotions they have to reflect for days at a time?

It can be genuine. It can be a publicity stunt. We will never know what exactly going on in the minds of people.

I personally choose to believe that people have empathy.

Maybe I am naive and dumb. But I think it takes a very dark and twisted person to use people's personal tragedy for self-publicity in a very intentional and calculated manner. I honestly don't think many humans are that dark. Perhaps when people dislike someone they see only the dark side.

So to comment on Nirbhaya or Priyanka, one has to have experience of getting raped, otherwise they will be giving frivolous replies?

There is something called empathy.

You don't need to experience the same situation yourself to empathize with another person

Yes .. I am very serious.

Like I said to another member maybe she wasn’t prepared and maybe she isn’t empathetic.

Stop trying to put words into my mouth by twisting it.

It’s not about experiencing it. It’s about understanding them more.

It’s not that complicated to get what I said. 💁🏻‍♀️

What was she thinking giving out this statement completely disregarding someone who has been through it and ended up being really brave ...imagine the outrage and long essays by her fans if it was alia or may be katrina or Anushaka or anyone else for that matter .

Even I disliked her statement..but bechaari DP bhi bash to ho rahi hai😆... deservedly

Ummm.....maybe DP could've kept the fact that she burned down the prosthetics after the shoot to herself. She could do that....the survivors can't....that's their reality.

As for the rest, I would be surprised if any actor who portrayed such a character wouldn't feel the way DP said she did. It is but natural. While we continue to applaud Laxmi and every other survivor for their courage, it is hard not to be shaken by their life experiences to get to where they are.

We read news articles, so we know. DP had to live the life of Laxmi while shooting for this movie. Anyone would be shook.

Good for her though. This will only help her become stronger and most importantly, more compassionate

I understood properly.

And you are right.

She is not empathetic.

She is just a drama queen

End of the day for an actor to get so affected by the character they play, are they taking the job way too seriously or themselves?!

I think everyone’s job affects them in some way or the other, how can it not? It’s human nature, my Bhai is in the army and he tends to get quite alpha when he comes home especially with my nephew and my bhabhi and mom samjhau him to watch himself.

The point is whether we must also be able to control our urges and have a more balanced view. Becos that is of utmost importance, I don’t think it’s a PR stunt but I do think it was ungracious of her to make the trailer about “herself” instead of the issue. This was a girl who on Satyamev Jayate episode stated that she has never been eve teased or harassed which means she has a lot to learn about being a girl in India. If she wanted to make this about what she learnt, then she could a slight tad less dramatic.

A part of me does feel bad for her, it’s like she can’t do anything right, poor thing. The worst is of course Vikrant Massey needing tissues 🙄 voh toh zyaada hi ho gaya..imho

Just out of curiosity...why can't they be burned though?

Some people made good point in that thread saying it’s impossible for actors to not be affected especially with such incredible story Laxmi went through.

every actor can but DP cannot. If they ask about the experience working through the movie then she should say “i was all smiley” otherwise if she says it was heavy, that would mean mocking the victims. Actors have the right to talk about their on set experience unless it’s Deepika.
