Shefali already became a captain thanks to Asim playing a role in it. Not to mention if Shefali was his true friend, she wouldnt be too upset to lash and break their bond over a task.

When will Asim get his chance to captaincy? Waise this is a game, a task. Shefali is also his competition so he did the right thing in playing for himself especially when hes not aware of his populaity and believes he needs immunity. Simple as that.
