So, I've been accused of being an Asim apologist here before. Its true that I have grown to like him as a contestant over the last month, and since Koena left I wasn't feeling strongly enough to support anybody until Asim came into his own. He has lots of shortcomings, many of which are similar to Shukla's own weaknesses, perhaps that explains their bond - which no matter how much I can't stand Shukla on the show anymore, I must admit does look real. But there is one thing in the last Weekend ka Vaar that kinda really impressed me about Asim, and that was his confidence and ability to articulate his thoughts without getting emotional, rambling, or missing the point.
When Asim and Sid were both in the katgheras, even a huge Sid fan must have felt at least somewhat bad for Asim when he was counting down the times he has felt disrespected in the name of sarcasm or jokes intended to be harmless. On the flipside, Sid, who is a successful, well-trained media personality who has been in the spotlight for a number of years was seen getting overly excited, squirming, lost in defense, and sort of struggling to defend himself. He did do it, I will agree, and he addressed all of Asim's points, but he had a harder time keeping his cool - which even Salman pointed out about how excited he gets when he starts getting emotional and talking fast. I was quite impressed by Asim, for a relative media unknown just a month and a half ago, to hold his own with the country's biggest star and a house full of people openly disagreeing and cutting his points down - especially Paras, who was given full reign to interrupt as much as he wanted.
But after last night I'm even doubly impressed by Asim's brother Umar. This guy is TOTALLY un-trained for the media, is a doctor by profession I think someone said, and the way he handled himself with so much patience and calm, yet confidence and strength was really commendable. He even brought up things Asim didn't, (like how the act of coming up to someone's face and screaming was something Sid has been doing for weeks) and even Salman agreed with him that Asim's pushes shouldn't be counted as violence the way Shukla's were. Really impressed with these Riaz boys! Don't know if Umar has any showbiz plans, but no matter how things work out for Asim in the show, I do hope he has a good career longterm. This kind of natural patience, swagger, and calm is rare for people who have never been on TV and been around so many stars - which in itself is intimidating as hell to see people like Salman in person after seeing him on screen for decades.
