Chapter 4
Rishabh woke up at the crack of dawn and suddenly he felt nervous about the day. He looked at his little angel who cuddled him and pecked her forehead before slipping out of the bed.
He walked to his study and rubbed his forehead to calm his mind. What will he say to Prerna’s parents? Will they accept their relationship? Would they agree to let their daughter be with a man who was nearly a decade older to her and a father of a five year old? How will his own daughter react to his relationship with Prerna?? His mind was flooded with all these thoughts, he groaned and walked towards the kitchen, he needed a coffee to distract himself and clear his head.

Prerna’s condition was no different from Rishabh’s, she too had woken up early with many thoughts running in her head, she was tempted to text Rishabh and ask him to cancel his plan for the day but she stopped herself from doing so. She knew that he would get hurt and assume that she wasn’t sure about their relationship. She knew that it was high time she told the truth to her parents about her feelings for Rishabh, before it was too late.

The atmosphere at the breakfast table in Basu Bari was really tense today. Naveen had not come out of his room at all since last night and Mohini was worried for him but at the same time she was mad at her husband and son for speaking against her in Sharma Niwas the last evening. It was for the first time yesterday that they had questioned her decision.
‘Maa.. how long are you going to be mad at me for saying the right thing?’
Anurag asked his mother, he found her behaviour really irrational. She hadn’t spoken to him at all.
‘It’s okay Anu.. you did nothing wrong by saying the truth, if your mother doesn’t want to talk to you because of that then it is her fault, not yours.’
Moloy said nonchalantly and Mohini only fumed more after listening to his words.
‘Of course, it is my fault.. I shouldn’t have agreed to Naveen in the first place.. that girl Prerna is anyways not worth him …’
Mohini spoke in her usual attitude that made Anurag more angry
‘No Maa you have it the wrong way.. Naveen Babu is not worth Prerna..’
He said and earned a glare from his mother
‘And why do you care so much about her Anu..? Why is it bothering you so much?’
‘Because I don’t want her life to be ruined by getting married to a guy like Naveen Babu.. he is older to her and already divorced, that too twice, how could you even propose that marriage Maa?!’
Anurag spoke in an irritated tone
‘If I wouldn’t have known you Anu I would have thought that you feel something for that girl… or else you wouldn’t be sitting here and arguing with your mother over such a petty issue..’
‘Petty issue?? You almost tried to get a Girl married to someone three times older to her and you are addressing it as petty issue?? You know what, you are right, I shouldn’t be arguing with you over it because you won’t understand it.. Naveen babu ke liye apke pyaar ne aapko sahi galat ke beech ka fark bhulne pe majboor kar diya hai Shayaad…’
Anurag got up from his chair and stormed back to his room while his entire family kept looking at him in shock. For the first time they had seen him speak to his mother in such a way
‘First my brother and now my son, both of them have gone mad… Naveen was insane to think about getting married to Prerna and Anu has spoken to me in this tone for the first time because he thinks that I tried to ruin her life… huh.. I was trying to make her future better by getting her married to Naveen, those middle class people will never be able to find such a Big Rishta for their daughter ever!!!’
‘That is the difference between them and you Mohini… for them it’s the values that matter and not money, according to you Prerna’s future would be bright if she married Naveen but they know that their daughter would never be happy in that relationship… and I am glad that at least our son is still sane and sensible, unlike you to realise that they are right and you are wrong !!’
Moloy left the table after sparing one last glance towards his wife who had turned red in anger by now.
‘Prerna Sharma.. you are the reason why all this is happening… If my family didn’t have a soft corner for you I would have destroyed you by now!!’
Mohini muttered under her breath and fisted her plam in rage.

Rishabh sat on his bed with his head in his hands, his room was a mess right now, he couldn’t figure out what should he wear for his visit to the Sharma’s. When his daughter walked into the room she stood at the door with her mouth agape. She could never imagine that her father could be so messy.
‘Papa.. what happened here?’
She asked him innocently, Rishabh lifted his head and extended his arms for her to walk into them, as she did he pulled her closer to him.
‘I can’t decide what to wear…’
‘What?’
She looked at him in confusion and he sighed
‘You see baccha.. Papa has this important meeting today and he wants to look his best,. But I can’t decide what to wear..’
He pouted slightly which made Kukki giggle at his words and his expressions
‘Papa… aapke sare kapde ek jaise hi toh hain.. waise bhi you are the best.. aap kuch bhi pehno aap ache hi lago ge..’
Rishabh smiled at his daughter’s innocence and kissed her on her cheek.
‘Waise aapki yeh meeting itni important hai kya? Aap Sunday ko bhi ja rahe ho..’
Kukki pouted and looked at him with puppy eyes, Rishabh never worked on Sunday, he would only spend the day with his daughter.
‘Umm.. actually it’s not a meeting Kukki… well I was thinking that we should visit Prerna at her home today..’
‘Really??’
Kukki got excited at the mere mention of Prerna
‘Yes.. kal aapne kaha tha na ki Prerna ne aapka bohut khayal rakha tha.. issliye I thought that we should visit her and thank her for yesterday..’
‘Yes yes.. I want to thank her too.. but papa if we are only going to thank her, then why are you so worried?’
Before replying to her question Rishabh to frame clear sentences in his head. He didn’t know how to tell his daughter that he loved Prerna and he was planning to marry her.
‘You see.. baby the thing is that.. okay .. so you like Prerna a lot right? And she also loves you. I was wondering that we could ask her to come home and stay with us… forever… then the two of you can always be together and play a lot and…’
‘Are you going to get married to her Papa?’
Rishabh was taken back when his five year old daughter asked him this question without any hesitation, did she even know what marriage was?
‘I want to.. but only if you are okay with it…’
‘If you get married to her, she will become my Mamma, hai na?’
It would be an understatement to say that Kukki’s words had shocked Rishabh, how on earth did his daughter even know about all this? Was the question that was echoing in his head. Nevertheless he nodded as an answer to her question. He looked at her anxiously to say something now but she kept mum and walked out of the room
‘Oh god!!’
Rishabh caught his head in his hands once again, his daughter had already rejected the idea of him getting married to Prerna, he wondered if it was even worth to visit her house now. He thought of texting Prerna to inform her that he won’t be coming to her place but Kukki came back in the room with a two dresses in her hands
‘Which one should I wear to Mamma’s house?’
She asked him with a huge smile on her face and Rishabh sighed deeply and engulfed his daughter in his arms again
‘Baby.. please never do that to me again.. I thought you were upset that I thought about marrying Prerna and making her your mom…’
Kukki broke the hug and patted his cheeks
‘You are so buddhu Papa.. You know that I love her so much.. and I know you love her too… you look at her the same way like you look at me..’
Rishabh was amused to hear his daughter say all this but at the same time he was blushing too. He had to do something to save himself from any further embarrassment
‘Don’t you think you are talking way too much these days?? And where did you learn all this from Haan?!’
‘Papa… I am smart kid… I know everything…’
Kukki winked at her father and giggled as he started tickling her as a revenge for pulling his leg, after a few minutes of fun time the father daughter duo got ready and headed to Prerna’s house.

Prerna sat on one of the sofas in their living room and kept tapping her foot on the floor nervously, she glanced at the wall clock after every five minutes. It was nearly 11 and she knew that Rishabh would reach home any minute.
‘Bol toh diya ki aa jao.. lekin maa baba pata nahi kaise react karne wale hain humare rishte ko leke .. kahin reject kar diya toh?? Baba toh unhe jante hain, shayad unhe koi problem nahi hogi.. lekin maa…!!’
She kept talking to herself in a low voice and when she couldn’t control her anxiety she walked to the small temple area of her house and started talking to her best friend.
‘Bappa.. aap toh jante ho na main aur Rishabh ek dusre se kitna pyaar karte hain.. please kuch aisa kijiye ki maa baba bhi iss rishte ke liye maan jaye.. aapko pata hai na ki main kabhi unke wish ke against kuch nahi kar sakti… please Bappa.. aaj mera aur Rishabh ka saath de do…please please please…’
She shut her eyes tightly as she prayed to God to be by their side today. She nearly jumped nervously when the doorbell rang. The clock had stuck sharp at 11 and she knew that Rishabh had come. Before she could go to open the door she saw her mother already unlatching it. She halted in her tracks and started chewing the end of her Dupatta.
Veena was surprised to see Rishabh at her doorstep with his daughter but she quickly composed herself and welcomed them inside the house. Within 10 seconds Rishabh had spotted Prerna and a soft smile adored his face,
‘She looks cute even when she is nervous’
He thought, as soon as her eyes met his Prerna left the edge of her dupatta and tried to return the smile but as she remembered his confession she blushed and bit her lip.
Thankfully Kukki had distracted Veena with her cute antics and she failed to notice this eye communication that Prerna and Rishabh were having with each other,. Which broke only when Rajesh walked in the room and cheerfully welcome Rishabh
‘What a pleasant surprise.. and you bought Kukki along as well.. how are you now beta?!’
He asked the little girl who ran to him to greet him and answer his question
‘I am perfectly fine..’
‘All thanks to Prerna, she took really good care of Kukki yesterday..’
Rishabh said genuinely and Rajesh just nodded at him, he gestured Rishabh to take a seat and sat opposite to him as Kukki ran to Prerna and hugged her tightly.
‘I am so happy that you are okay now!!’
Prerna said in a baby like voice as she cuddled Kukki in her arms, everyone in the room smiled looking at them.
‘I’ll get something for you to have Mr. Bajaj..’
Veena said and turned to leave but Rishabh stopped her
‘No Aunty please… we had our breakfast before coming here and please call me Rishabh…’
He gave her a sincere smile but Veena felt too nervous around him. Having dealt with the Basu’s she knew that the rich aren’t always so cordial, she knew that Rishabh was different but still she couldn’t help herself from feeling inferior in front of him.
‘So Rishabh what brings you here today??’
Rajesh asked him casually, he knew that Rishabh had something going on in his mind that he probably wanted to discuss with him. Rishabh looked at him and Prerna simultaneously and once again he felt nervous
‘Ummm.. I’ll take kukki to my room..’
Prerna said and before anyone else could say anything she caught Kukki’s hand and took her to the room but not before giving an assuring nod to Rishabh. Prerna made Kukki sit on her bed and gave her a teddy that she had in the room and quietly went outside the room to hide behind a pillar and listen to the conversation that Rishabh was having with her parents
‘Rishabh..’
Rajesh called him out once again and Rishabh cleared his throat as he started to speak.
‘Uncle actually.. I…I wanted to..’
Rishabh stammered before he could even say one complete sentence, his nervousness had taken Rajesh by surprise. In the past two years he had never seen Rishabh being so nervous even once.
‘Go on beta… tell me what’s troubling you…’
Rishabh shut his eyes tightly and exhaled deeply before he spoke
‘I want to ask your permission to get married to your daughter…’
Veena and Rajesh couldn’t believe what they had just heard, they both kept staring at the man who sat in front of them and looked too scared to even open his eyes after he had just asked them for their daughter’s hand.

,can I call you that?....can't you make him go to her home,climb a pipe to her room,jump thru the window scaring her and then confess infront of her,haan??
....jokes apart.....the confession here is apt for your story at the present scenario.....and the way he immediately thought of her parents and wanted to come clean before them is such an honorable thing to do....nothing less than that for The Rishabh Bajaj....can't wait to see the reactions of her parents now.....hopefully no one raises any objections.....lets see.....do update soon....eagerly waiting to see some romance after official permission...😉😛
