Was at Shanmukhanand yesterday evening for the programme Swaranand. Suresh Wadkar and Shankar Mahadevan together live for the first time. Awesome experience.

Wadkar sang most of his popular marathi songs plus a few of his popular hindi songs and later he had two jugalbandi's with Shankar. Then followed Shankar with his Katyar songs plus a few of his "experimental" songs and then his most popular hindi songs. The icing on the cake was a live rendition of Breathless (on audience farmaish). He was just awesome. When you hear breathless on your player you always wonder if it could have been edited to give the feel of continuity. but when you hear it live you are left in no doubt. Shankar had the audience eating out of his hands. There was tremendous audience participation in all his songs.

And then the accompanists were all familiar TV faces whom we have watched numerous times on Sa Re Ga Ma or Sur Nava. Prasad Padhye on Tabla was as skillful as he appears on these TV programmes. Shankar let out in between that Padhye had played tabla on all the songs of Katyar.

What a satisfying evening/night!
