Entering as a middle-aged man( with 3 kids) who separates 2 young lovers is a tricky position to be in. Not at all a likeable place. Plus being this merciless unapologetic badass. Then the journey from a grey character to a borderline villain, to a full-fledged hero. I think why EK made him into a borderline villain( from a grey char) was to negate the popularity of the character, nahi to unke ''young-sweet-lovers'' sideline ho jate. Ultimately he had to be made the hero( anti-hero) because of the sheer limelight his screen presence demanded.

I agree completely! She had never envisaged that the public will fall for a middle aged, morally ambiguous man who separated the lead pair! EK tried very hard to make us despise RB, what with those Pune pics n all...but we never budged 😆
