Not me, the problem with Akki is stereotyping.

2016: Neither of Rustom nor Houseful there were patriotic movies per say. Yes Rustom had a tiny sub plot, but that was a sub plot.

2017: Jolly LLB nor Toilet were patriotic movies.

2018: Padman wasn't patriotic, nor was 2.0.

2019: Kesari wasn't patriotic, it was more about Sikh pride. Houseful and Good News ain't going to be patriotic.

This Akki only does patriotic movies thing is silly. We all saw how badly SRK got trashed with all of his romantic movies this decade, sorry but audience doesn't accept these oldies as romantic hereos any more.

And they're not going to do mature love stories because, they are big money guys. Will not risk a flop movie for pleasing random Joe in internet.

As for social drama, what is so wrong about them?? Yes we can critique them not being made well, but the disdain for them is kinda silly.

Also BW hardly ever makes good love stories, like ever. They can't even do time pass rom com well. I will rather watch fun South Indian.dubbed or subs romantic movies, than watch BW half arsed ones.

Akshay has male savior complex and har movie main woh wahi dikhata hain. He might do a housefull here and there but he cultivates his Deshbhakt image the most. Profit karta hain from being the front and centre of savior drama. That's his issue and that's why he's stereotyped and for good reason.

Whatever topic or genre a movie be, unless it's completely new or seldom tried like horror, it most probably has ten other movies being made on similar lines. So, it should be made well. Not just put in some regular elements and make it a hit and then onto the next one. This seems to be popular amongst filmmakers because they know such movies won't get bad WOM that much since people don't talk badly about these themes. I wish there were more passion projects in BW. That's why I love SLB's movies. There is some repetition of course, maybe to mark his signature style but he puts so much effort in every one of them, most aspects of his movies are worth talking about.

THIS! I feel the same way about SLB..at least the man puts his heart and soul into his projects unlike others who just copy ideas hotch potch from here and there.

And I'm the kind of person who used to listen to patriotic "Ae watan" kind of songs before patriotism became the buzz word. But the insincere Z grade products churned out by the likes of Canadian Kumar I can do without and do do without tbh. The likes of Canadian Kumar just want to profit on ongoing issues. And the general naive not too bright diaspora is suddenly gripped by the patriotism hysteria and cant even distinguish between genuinely good patriotic movies and pathetic sleazy and unctuous attempts like Kumar's to highjack others' moments of glory.

Every year movies of almost all genres are released by Bollywood filmmakers. You would know if you watch them.

There is nothing wrong in patriotic or social movies.

Yeah I mean I was so disappointed with Kesari...such a powerful story, so much hype for it and such a lazy and half baked movie. I didn't even watch Gold and Padman. I don't even feel like it and that's not because I don't like social issues movies but because his movies only have a few good scenes these days, most of it feels like wasted time. Even Rustom wasn't made that well. I liked TEPK but it got boring in the second half too. Truly Airlift was the last good movie of his that I watched.

Even with his comedy phase in the late 2000s, he did the same thing. The initial few movies like Singh is King and Bhool Bhulaiyaa were really good and because of that expectation we watched other movies he made in the same genre but he started making shit movies like that one with Govinda I can't even remember and then De Dana Dan and others that were just nonsense and more nonsense. He milks a formula way too much is what I think.

I've watched only Bhool Bhulaiya out of all these movies you've listed and that was a remake. I do not count on him to deliver good movies. But my grouse is with the way sheeple are so easily taken for a ride. His Mission Mangal movie is a national shame according to me. How can anyone reduce such an inspiring, awe-inducing moment in Indian history to utter sham..and still people went to watch it because "well Mission Mangal ke baare mein hai",,,I dont even have words for that.

I don't mind social themes, or biopics but it depends on the way it is presented like Astha said.. It's rarely about the plot for me. When you watch a film, you look for something that goes beyond just the plot.. and that is usually direction, cinematography, screenplay.. and that is what seems to be lacking (plots could be weak, but let's not go there).

Look at the trailers, all of them are cut more or less the same way, even the background music is played the same way more or less, the hype created is the same. So my interest is doused before I even watch it.. and you can easily sense what the film will be like..

And, yes, in the recent times, especially with movies with titles like Article 15, URI, Tashkent, Section 375, Toilet etc etc... just don't want to watch them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ something about the title, the whole vibe of the trailers which are so poorly tailored, and you have the world always talking about these things, I read about these things.. doesn't make me want to watch it.

I like social films, but I like to watch them sometimes, if they have the direction or narration or the screenplay or aesthetic. There has to be some creative appeal. Personally I thought I lost interest in such social themes, biopics, films 'based on true events' because I went through a phase where we watched only such films and thought I had burned out.. but no, sometimes I still watch such films and enjoy them even though I like other genres or themes better.

I read many reviews of MM and could gauge from the trailer itself. A movie about Mangalyaan should be inspiring no?...made with the kind of underlying values that drive the narrative forward like say, Gravity or Interstellar or 2001 A space Odyssey or even last year's Parmanu....But what else can be expected from sleazy Canadian Kumar..

Same.

Akshay movies are boring. He goes into this phase . It’s very annoying. One out of these “phase” movies are good others are blatantly boring plagued by mediocrity and monotonous acting. There is no passion or love. It’s like factory produced items. More annoying is the fact that he makes fun of people who actually are trying to better themselves and are passionate about the art and the aspect of filmmaking. I can even respect Srk for trying, atleast he is sticking to his passion in vfx. The last movie I watched of his was Special 26 properly. Tried watching Padman a bit. He was abysmal. It was like he was reading lines from a teleprompter.
