SOTY2

Felt like punching tiger's face everytime he came onscreen.

The girls did far better than expected. Annie had better role as compared to tara and she was not bad at all. I could sit thru entire duration only because of the girls. Warna it's a complete snoozefest! Punit should be banned from Bollywood. He has already ruined immu's career. Dont understand why Dharma is still giving him jobs.😵

The Good Place S3

If you have not watched this show, I suggest you drop everything right now and go watch it. The Good Place is the most unique and clever sitcom out there. It is brilliantly conceived and executed.

The quest for life, the universe, and the meaning of everything has never been more hilarious. The first two seasons dealt with the afterlife and what happens when we die. This season expands on that idea by exploring life on earth and how complicated it can be. In an era of canceled culture and extreme snap judgments, it takes the bold stance of moral ambiguity. Even the best intentions can have unintended disastrous consequences.

And let's face it, Jeremy Bearimy, Interdimensional Hole of Pancakes, and Time Knife are hilariously clever concepts. Kristen Bell shines as Eleanor Shellstrop, and I love how this season plays with her bisexuality and perpetual horniness. But the rockstar this season is D'Arcy Carden who plays Janet. There is an entire episode of Janet(s) including a Janet making out with Janet. Showing twincest without being creepy - now that deserves a standing ovation.

The only downside to The Good Place - each season consists of only thirteen 20 minute episodes.

But I guess that's the secret ingredient. Less is more. If your fans are craving and begging for more - you hit the nail on the head. Once your fans are satiated and content, you will lose the plot trying to whip up an appetite again.

Sticks & Stones

Dave Chappelle's new stand-up special on Netflix is garnering a lot of hate and controversy. It's edgy and I can see why people are offended. To be honest, though, I enjoyed it.

This is the man who made the 'Clayton Bigsby sketch,' the edgiest satire on race and perhaps one of the greatest comic skits. He boldly walks into territory no one's willing to go. But you cannot deny that he does it with finesse. It's controversial but clever and he hits the nail on the head. Personally, I think his brand of comedy is more effective at getting people to rethink their biases than PC comedy.

His bit about the LGBTQ car had me in stitches. Edgy? Yes. But every bit was so accurately true. If only more folks were willing to stop getting offended over the superficial and get at the heart of what matters. This piece was a very true reflection on how white men and women are driving the LGBTQ movement and issues that have made it far more difficult to navigate. It was actually thought-provoking.

And I know his jokes about Michael Jackson and CK Louis are controversial. It can be difficult for a victim to enjoy that humor. But if you paid attention - he was pointing out to the absurdity of the media hype around such intentions. I saw it more of a jab of HBO minting money riding the #MeToo wave rather than an all out defense of Michael Jackson. Did people miss how he ripped R.Kelly apart?

The brutal honesty made me reminisce a bygone era when humor was edgier. We live an era where the sign of wokeness is pissing on one of the most beloved sitcoms of all times. I consider myself a feminist. I support LGBTQ rights and immigrant rights. In some ways we do have to learn and better ourselves. But in other ways, things have gone too far and we have to water down even the most banal things.

Loved the movie. Divyendu was amazing. Patralekha and other supporting cast were good too. It's available on ZEE5.

ITTYMAANI - MADE IN CHINA - My Review

Saw Ittymaani on Friday...here are some of my views about the movie...

As the name suggests the story is about Ittymaani (Mohanlal) who happens to be born in China as his parents were settled in China at the time. In our folklore we assume all the products from China are duplicates and the Chinese are masters in making duplicates. Here also after settling back in Kunnamkulam (apt place also) Ittymaani's main business is manufacturing and marketing duplicate products. The unmarried Ittymaani stays with his mother Theyyamma (KPAC Lalitha) and he has Sugunan (Aju Varghese) as his sidekick.

The first half of the movie progresses smoothly with good comic sequences with Mohalal shining as Ittymaani. Lal looks very fresh in the screen and sleepwalks through the role. Although at times the jokes are at real 'chali' level it evokes good laughter. The Mohanlal - KPAC Lalitha combo scenes are very good. The interval comes with an unexpected twist which makes viewers curious about the 2nd half.

However, the 2nd half is the weak point of the movie I felt. It drags at places and the the amount of sexist / double meaning jokes are not helping the course either. In the 2nd half the movie is tackling a very relevant social issue and the way the makers have chosen to address the issue is an interesting one. However they could have done with a bit of trimming especially in the 2nd half by avoiding many unwanted scenes.

With a loose and weak script the movie banks on Mohanlal to carry it to safety and he does exactly the same with great screen presence and voice modulation. Honey Rose has a blink and miss role and Siddhique shines as the Church vicar. The combination scenes between Lal and Siddhique are superb. Other supporting cast consisting of Aju Varghese, Radhika Saratkumar, Dharmajan, Salim Kumar, Harish, Johny Antony....are decent to good.

About the movie

It is a story of a man who considers motherhood as something very special and valua

ble.

Negatives

Lack of proper direction is felt throughout the movie. There is no story as such.

The double meaning dialogues, that too in a family movie, were unpardonable.

The gifted Salim Kumar was not given much scope to perform.

Positives

It is the actors' performance that gave life to the movie. Lalettan was in terrific form. A big salute to his dancing skills too (Magam kali).

His chemistry with K.P.A.C Lalitha is the highlight. It's the the same that made the movie a watchable one.

Siddique is a big plus.

Among the comedians, Aju Varghese and Harish Kanaran stood apart.

Songs are so-so and Shaji Kumar's cinematography is good.

A good time pass entertainer for the festive season.

My rating :- 3.0 / 5

Chichhore

Nitesh Tiwari's follow up to Dangal is a fun comic entertainer that takes the viewer back to his hostel days. Being an IIT alumnus, the makers knows the ins and outs of hostel life and shows it to the viewer in a joyful manner.

After a tragic accident results in our protagonist's son clinging to life,he takes it upon himself to bring into his son,the will to live by telling him the story of how a bunch of losers decide to challenge the top dogs of the college by winning the sports cup competition. The movie is basically a mixture of 2 of Aamir's legendary movies and SOTY.

The comic scenes are mostly slapstick and they work because the gags are inventive. Just when the movie starts to lag, someone or the other delivers a classic counter that brings back the fun.

Among the actors,it's the supporting characters who stand out. Navin Polishety, after the superb Agent SSA is brilliant and so is Tahir Raj as the jaded senior. Shraddha is lovely to look at and emotes well. The same can't be said for SSR who sometimes feels like imitating Ex King. The sports scenes are edited brilliantly and create some genuine suspense.

Last but not the least,I loved the climax which took a different route, yet which felt so right. The message on how we as people don't teach our kids how to handle failure is timely and relevant,in light of the rising suicide rate among youngsters. In short,a breezy fun ride that will have you laughing as well as shedding a tear

Rating: 3.25 / 5 ( A Good one. )

Yay!!! Finally someone who loves the good place! Is S3 on Netflix? Also, S4 will be the last season, Michael Schur, the most amazing man ever, confirmed it recently which makes me both happy (and kinda sad) cuz they won’t ruin an amazing show for ratings. That said, S3 has extended episodes, check it out if you haven’t done so already.

PS: great review!!
