CHAPTER 5

Once Mr. Chopra had left, Commissioner Pradyuman asked, “Maan, tumhei kya koi help chahiye professionally jo mai arrange karun?” (Maan, do you need any help that I can arrange in my professional capacity?)

“Haan Sir. Mujhe kuch cheezein chahiye hongi.” (Yes Sir. I need few things organized.)

“Bolo?” (What?)

“Pehla ki mujhe ek ID card chahiye hoga, jisse US authorities ko mujh par vishwaas ho. Dusara ki mujhe ek service revolver chahiyega jo mai airport security ke through le jaaon. Aur teesara ki aap US Police force yaa FBI se baat kariye ki mai aaonga aur woh alert rahen. Kyunki mera sixth sense keh raha hai ki woh Raghavendra Khandelwal abb chup nahi beithega jab usse Geetanjali ke sach ka patta chal gaya hai. Panch saal pehle bhi woh Geet ke peecha haath dhoke padha thaa aur abb phir woh Geet ko shayad nuksaan pauhchana chahega.” (Sir, first and foremost I need an ID card so that US authorities can trust me. Second I need a service revolver which can go through the airport security. Third and last thing that you kindly inform US Police or FBI of my arrival and be on alert regarding Khandelwal. Because my sixth sense says that Raghavendra Khandelwal will no longer sit silent, once he comes to know the truth about Geetanjali. Five years back he wanted to harm Geet and even now he wants to hurt her.)

“Magar Maan Raghavendra toh CBI ki security prison mein hai?” (But Maan, Raghavendra is in CBI’s security prison.)

“Sir, mai inn dono bhaiyon yaani Raghavendra aur Devendra ki ragh-ragh se waakif hoon. Jab tak uss Raghavendra ko Rajgarh ki rajgaddi nahi mil jaati naa toh woh Maharaj Vasudev Singh Rajawat ko aur naa hi MERI GEET ka peecha chodhega. Magar mai yeh hone nahi doonga, mai Geet ko baccha kar rahoonga.” (Sir, I know these two brothers i.e. Raghavendra and Devendra inside out. Until Raghavendra is not accepted as Rajgarh’s royal ruler he will neither leave Maharaj Vasudev Singh Rajawat nor MY GEET in peace. But I will never let this happen, I will definitely save My Geet.)

Commissioner Pradyuman’s eyes were shimmering with tears of joy seeing his Maan change into DCP Maan Singh Khurana, a CBI officer back in action whom Commissioner Pradyuman was missing for so long. “Sir, aap jaante nahi ki Raghavendra ka ek spy humare ghar mein kaam kar raha hai? (Sir, do you know that Raghavendra’s spy has been living in Khurana Mansion for sometime?)

“Maan, agar tumhein maloom thaa ki Raghavendra ka ek aadmi tumhare ghar mein kaam kar raha hai, toh tum.........?” (Maan, if you knew that Raghavendra’s spy is living under your roof then why.......?)

“Sir, abhi tak Geet ka koi patta nahi thaa toh mai bina baat ke apne ghar aur parivaarwalon ko upset nahi karna chahta thaa. Magar abb mai usse aapke saamne benaqaab karta hoon.” (Sir, until now I was not aware of Geet’s whereabouts, hence, I didn’t want to upset my household by suspecting him. But now I’ll expose him in front of you.)

“Nakul Kaka, Kaka......” Maan called.

Nakul at once appeared. “Ji baba” (Yes Sir.)

“Bhawar Singh ko Outhouse mein bhejiye.” (Please send Bhawar Singh to the Outhouse.) Maan ordered.

“Ji.” (Yes Sir.)

While waiting with Commissioner Pradyuman in Outhouse for Bhawar Singh to arrive, Maan called someone and said, “Uss ladki ko ander bhejo.” (Send that girl in.) Meanwhile, Commissioner Pradyuman called DCP Adi and asked him to come with a small back up to Khurana Outhouse on the double. Once the old looking man with turban on his head came.

Maan got into his CBI Officer mode. “Bhawar Singhji, aap kahaan ke rehnewale hain?” (Bhawar Singh, to which village do you belong to?)

“Woh sahaab hum Jaisalmer ke paas ke gaaon mein rehte hain.” (Sir, I live in a village near the city of Jaisalmer.)

“Jaisalmer ke paas ke gaaon mein yaa Rajgarh ke rehanewale hain?” (Jaisalmer or Rajgarh?)

“RAJGARH?” Bhawar Singh gasped in shock cum surprise. Then controlling himself tried to say in an emotional voice, “Sahaab, humara Rajgarh se kya sambandhan?” (Sir, I have no connection with Rajgarh.)

“Sambandhan?” (Connection?)Maan raised one eyebrow sceptically then raised his voice and called, “AAYIYE.” (Come in.)

A eleven-twelve year old girl walked in wearing a traditional costume and ran to Bhawar Singh and hugged him saying, “Bapu-sa, aap aakhir mharo ko mil gaye.” (Father I’ve finally found you.)

“Jugni tu yahaan se?” (How come you are here Jugni?)

“Bhawar Singhji agar aap nahi chahte ki aapko aur aapki beti ko Police ki maar padhe toh sach-sach battaiye ki aap Raghavendra Khandelwal ko kaise jaante hain?” (Bhawar Singh, if you both father and daughter don’t want to be tortured by Police kindly confess how do you know Raghavendra Khandelwal?)

“Hukum, Kunwar-sa kaun se manne nahi maloom. Magar mhare khet Kunwar-sa ke paas girwi se. Kunwar-sa ke aadmiyon ne mhare se kaha se ki agar manne aapki jasoosi naa kari se toh naa woh kewal mhare khet zabath (confiscate) kar lenge magar mhari Jugni ko bhi uthwa lenge.” (Sir, I’ve never met Kunwar Raghavendra. I only know that my fields are mortgaged and the deeds are with Kunwar Raghavendra. His men had threatened me that I should keep an eye on you, otherwise not only will he confiscate my farming fields but will also kidnap my daughter, Jugni.) Bhawar Singh broke down and as his legs no longer supported him he collapsed on the floor with tears running from his eyes and his hands folded. In this pitiable state he said to Commissioner Pradyuman, “Sahaab, aap mhare ko jo bhi sazaa dena chahwein mhare ko manjur se magar mhari chori ko Kunwar-sa ke aadmiyon se bacha lo.” (Sir, I’m willing for any punishment you want to give me but please save my daughter, Jugni.)

“Bhawar Singhji, Jugni aaj se aur abhi se meri zimmewari hai. Magar sirf tab tak jab tak aap mere wafadaar banne rahenge.” (Bhawar Singh, from today, I take full Jugni’s responsibility but only as long as you are faithful to me.) Maan called on the intercom, “Kaka, Rampiyaari Kaki ko Outhouse mein bhejiye.” (Nakul send Rampiyaari to the Outhouse.) Once the old maid was there, Maan ordered, “Kaki, Jugni ko nilahiye-dhulaiye aur safa kariye. Phir khaana khilaye, yeh bhooki hogi. Kal se yeh “Stree Shakti” ke school mein padhegi.” (Rampiyaari, give this girl bath and clean her up. Then feed her something she must be hungry. From tomorrow she will go to school in “Stree Shakti”.)

Bhawar Singh came and held Maan’s feet and said, “Jawai-sa, manne maaf kar dijiye ki manne aapki jasoosi ki se.” (Son-in-law, please forgive me for spying on you.)

“JAWAI-SA?” (SON - IN - LAW?)

“Manne maloom se Rajkumari-sa aapki lugai se.” (I know you are Princess’ husband.) Maan was stunned at the villager’s prediction.

By now DCP Adi had come with a small back up team to Khurana Outhouse and arrested Bhawar Singh. Once Adi and his men left, Maan along with Commissioner Pradyuman started discussing next Plan Of Action (POA).

NEXT DAY

Location: Khurana Mansion

Maan had just entered Khurana Mansion when he saw Rampiyaari with a little girl. Maan remembered the little girl was Bhanwar Singh’s daughter Jugni. But this girl looked so different compared to the girl he saw yesterday. The girl wished him with folded hands, “Pranam Sahaab.” (Good morning Sir.)

“Aaj se tum mujhe “Baba” bulaogi.” (From today you will call me “Baba”.) Maan ordered. “Tumhara poora naam kya hai?” (What is your full name?) Maan asked Jugni.

“Jagruti.” Maan asked Rampiyaari to call Khushi. Once the lady had left Maan slightly relaxed and said to Jugni, “Dekho beta, aaj se tumhari nayi zindagi shuru ho rahi hai. Yeh “tum” par nirbhar karta hai ki tum uske kya bannati ho? Tum chaho toh padh-likh kar ek accha jeevan jee sakti ho. Aur chaho toh khel-koodh mein apni zindagi udda sakti ho. Aaj se tum “Stree Shakti” mein rahogi aur padhogi. Kya tumhein maloom hai tumhari Rajkumari-sa bhi Stree Shakti mein rehteen theen?” (Listen my child, from today you are entering a new phase in your life. Now it depends on you what “you” make of your life? If you want by studying and doing hardwork you can make your future bright. If you want to while away your time and life in non serious work then that is your wish. From today you will stay in Stree Shakti as well as study there. Do you know that even your Princess resided in Stree Shakti?)

“KYA?” (What?) Jagruti’s eyes opened wide in surprise.

“Haan. Iss liye tum Stree Shakti mein raho aur mann laga kar padho. Aur koi bhi pareshaani ho toh mujhe yaa Khushi Ma’am ko batta dena.” (Yes. So now you also stay in Stree Shakti and study diligently. If you have any problem feel free to contact me or Khushi Ma’am.) Unknown to Maan and Jagruti, two women had overhead this conversation. Khushi decided to interrupt the conversation and walked in, “Jeejaji aapne bulaya?” (Maan bhai you called?)

“Haan Khushi. Kya tum meri ek help kar sakti ho?” (Yes. I need your help Khushi.)

“Ji boliye.” (Yes?)

“Kya tum Jagruti ka Stree Shakti mein admission kara sakti ho? Kyunki aaj meri KC mein ek bahut important meeting hai. Mai personally Jagruti ke rehne aur padhai ka payment karoonga.” (Can you please get Jagruti’s admission in Stree Shakti done? Because I have an extremely important meeting in KC right now. All the cost of Jagruti’s residing in Stree Shakti as well as her cost of education I will bear.) Khushi nodded in acceptance and Maan left hurriedly for KC without even having breakfast.
