Chapter - 13
"Roli..." Sujata called out loud, seeing her rolling down the stairs and rushed towards her.
Mataji, rajender and sid all too rushed out from their rooms as soon as they heard sujata's voice.
By the time sujata reached, roli was at the last step and she was already passed out. Sujata quickly took her into her lap and began to tap on hee cheeks, calling her name out to wake her up.
Sid, who by now reached the stairs, got shocked upon seeing roli unconsciously laying on sujata's lap. He quickly rushed near her, skipping the steps in the process.
"What happened to her?" Sid asked worriedly as he shook roli but, she didn't react.
"She fell down from stairs" sujata replied as she continued to tap on roli's cheeks.
"Sid, take her to room. I'll call doctor" said rajender as he hurriedly took out his phone.
Sid scooped roli in his arms and went to her room while sujata and mataji followed him, being worried.
A while later, doctor was checking on roli. Sujata sat beside her with a worried face. Mataji kept praying to god as she stood aside. Rajender too was tensed to see roli in such condition. While sid just stood beside roli's bed, where she was laying. His heart was with complex of emotions, though his face looked indifferent.
After checking, doctor turned to all and said "Nothing to worry, she's perfectly fine. I think she might haven't eaten anything since morning and due to the sudden shock of falling down the stairs, she just lost her conscious. Taking rest for a little while would help her feel better".
It wasn't until they heard what doctor said, did they took breath of relief.
"Thank you doctor. We'll take care" rajender said, finally letting out a sigh of relief.
Then doctor took a leave from them. Though roli was fine, they were worried for her and stayed back in her room until she came back to her conscious state.
After a few minutes, roli slowly opened her eyes. When her vision got cleared, she found sujata, rajender and mataji looking at her with a worried expression.
"What happened?" She asked, her voice was weak.
"Thank god you're alright. You just scared us to death" sujata said, caressing roli's hair.
"What I did?" Roli asked, innocently.
"You just performed a circus trick a while back" sid, who was silent all the while without any expression on his face, spoke up in mockery.
"Siddhant" sujata called to stop him.
"Maa, stop taking her side all the time. It's just because of all your pampering she's being careless" sid burst out in anger and left the room furiously.
Roli didn't understand his anger as she looked at him leaving, with a pout.
"Roli, You've to be really carefull and take food on time. If something happens to you, then I can't show my face to your dad" rajender said in all seriousness.
"I'm sorry papa" roli felt a guilt for making them all worried.
"Leave it. Take rest for a while" rajender said, caressing her head.
"you had breakfast too early today and I think you hadn't have anything later. You must be hungry, I'll go bring something for you to eat" sujata said and went to kitchen.
Soon mataji and rajender too left, leaving roli to rest. Roli closed her eyes to rest but Sid's words rang again in her ears.
I'm not feeling well but, he still did shout at me, roli thought with a pout as she felt bad.
Few hours later..
Sid got back to home. He felt so anxious upon seeing roli laying with a pale face. Though he didn't show any reaction out but, he felt complex emotions floating deep inside his heart. He couldn't stand anymore seeing her in a state, therefore, he left the home angrily. By the time he reached, he found roli and sujata sitting in hall. He carefully observed roli's face, she was looking a lot better than she was in evening.
As sid reached them, sujata asked "where you've gone all this while?".
"I just went to meet my friends" sid replied, glancing at roli now and then.
"Wait a while I'll serve you dinner" sujata said as she continued to cut the apple for roli.
"It's okay, maa. I had it already"
"You bought ice cream!" Roli exclaimed, seeing a small bag of ice cream in his hand.
"Not for you, though" sid said, making her to pout.
"I'm not well. You've to take care of me" roli said like a kid.
"But, you don't look like you aren't well anymore" sid replied rather sarcastically.
"Maa.." roli looked at sujata with a puppy face.
Sujata smiled at her and glanced at sid, who was sitting across to them. She then sighed and said "siddhant, as far as I know, you never liked chocolate flavour then how come you bring it home. Or you must have brought it for roli because it's her favourite, right?".
Siddhant was at loss of words, seeing his mother's analytical skills.
"Oh.. then it's definitely for me" roli got up and took the ice cream pack in all excitement.
"Maa, are you sure that I'm your own son?" Sid asked, innocently.
"Why do you even ask such a question?" Sujata couldn't control her laughter as she looked at sid.
"What else I should think? You always take her side and abandon me" sid looked like a kid when he said it.
"Don't be jealous now. When the time comes, I'll take your side too" sujata felt like she was stuck between the two small kid's fight.
"I don't think that time will ever come" sid stood up as he said and turned to go to his room.
"Siddhant, atleast have some fruits" sujata called out to him.
"Feed them to your little kid" sid replied as he continued to ascend the stairs.
"This guy.." she let out a sigh.
"He's being a dramatic kid" roli commented as she took a spoon of ice cream into her mouth.
"Hmm.. I really don't know what you both would do as husband and wife" sujata's words left roli speechless.
Roli looked at her stunned, keeping the spoon between her lips as she was shocked.
"What's wrong?" Upon seeing roli froze, sujata asked.
Roli swiftly took out the spoon from her mouth as she said "maa.. I'll go to my room.. good night".
With that roli rushed into her room, hiding her blushing cheeks.
"I just hope you both get along well with each other" sujata smiled as she prayed.
Chapter - 14
Roli and sid were on the way to college, the next day. Though roli wasn't interested to go and she even took the excuse of being unwell to escape from going to college, Sid insisted her to go as their exams were about to start.
At last, roli helplessly got ready. On the way, Sid focused on driving while roli was thinking of something as she took glances of sid then and there.
After thinking for a while, roli finally asked "do you know naina?".
Sid quickly turned to her as he heard her question.
"How do you know her?" After a couple of moments, sid asked.
His question had the answer for roli that he knew naina.
Roli took a sigh as she said "yesterday I happened to meet her in college".
"Why did you go to her?" Sid asked, turning to her.
"I didn't go. I just came across with her and she said that she knows me and.." roli said rather uninterested.
"And?" Sid stared at her as she paused.
"She said that I've to stay away from you" roli said, turning her head to window.
Sid's expression darkened upon hearing her words and turned his head straight to look at road with same serious face.
A pin drop silence occupied in the car until sid spoke "stay away from her".
Roli turned to his side and looked at him confused.
"Don't go near her and don't talk to her. Even if she comes to you by herself, just ignore her" sid said as she stared at her confused face.
"Why?" Roli asked as she still didn't get his words.
"Can't you just do what I said without asking any return questions?" Sid blurted out as he continued to focus on driving.
"Can't you just say the reason of why to stay away from her?" Roli again queried, completely ignoring his words.
"No" sid replied sternly.
"Then me too no" roli replied in the same tone.
"Fine. But, remember one thing, don't come to me if you face any problem in future, because I'm never gonna help you out" sid was totally pissed off at her adamancy.
"I don't need your help" roli stated as sid stopped the car.
Sid turned and looked at her with a stern face while she too looked at him like an angry kid.
"You can leave now" sid said, making her realize that they reached the college.
Roli got down and rushed in to college without even turning back to look at him.
Sid hit the steering angrily. He was just trying to make her to be careful but, instead of understanding that, she pissed him off with her usual stubbornness.
Only he knew how evil minded that woman naina was. It was more than two years since she was after him. No matter how many times he rejected her on her face, she still kept on trying to approach him. And this time he was truly worried for roli, but she didn't even know what was coming on her way. He tried to explain her but as usual, their conversation ended up unpleasantly.
He took a deep sigh thinking of all these and drove away to his destination.
In college, roli again happened to come across naina in lunch break. But, she completely ignored her and walked away, which made naina angry but, she calmed herself thinking that roli was scared of her. As if it was true!
After college hours, roli reached parking area and was waiting for the driver.
But, to her surprise, she found Sid as soon as a car stopped in front of her.
"Get in" sid said, looking at her, which she obediently followed.
"You said that driver will come to pick me up" after a while roli spoke, breaking the silence in car.
"Do you have any problem if I come?" Sid turned to her and asked sternly.
"No" roli said in a low voice. What problem she would even have. In fact, she would be more than happy if he would be by her side all the time.
Roli looked at sid, whose focus was fixed on road ahead of them. She smiled and said "today I saw naina again but I ignored her".
After hearing her, sid quickly looked at her in surprise, only to find her smiling at him.
Was she the same person, who bickered with him this morning and left even without turning back to him, he wondered.
"Good" after looking at her for a while, he said and turned his head straight at road.
That's how their relationship was! They could fight with each other upon the silly things that no one could expect. Still, couldn't be mad at each other for long.
Roli noticed sid smiling to himself and said "don't think that I'm obediently following your order of staying away from her. It's just that I myself don't like her so I just ignored her".
There you go, she again kick started it all over again.
"Can we please not talk about her" sid sighed at her words and said. He was clearly not interested in even thinking about naina. For him she was worthless even to mention.
Roli nodded and started talking about all the random things she got in her mind at the moment. And as usual, sid had to bear her talks until they reach home.
Once he stopped his car in their house parking lot. He turned to her and asked helplessly "don't you feel tired of talking all the time?".
"Don't you feel bored of being silent all the time?" A typical roli's style reply, which made Sid speechless.
"You.." sid showed his index finger, which roli held in both her hands and said "I'll listen to your lecture later. Now bye".
With that roli got down and rushed in. While sid looked at her leaving and sighed hopelessly as he too got down and went into the house.
