By the way, DB, d2rocks, justwatching, Sakeena and prince, did you people watch the movie yet? Did not see your reviews.
I think I only got to read Nova and Dustkanya's reviews amongst the reviews of HR fans.
I like Hritik. (I am nobody's fan). For Hritik fans; Sorry. My review is harsh.
What made me watch the movie? Not the WOM, not the trailer. Previously I had heard about Super 30 and was impressed by it. When I heard for the first time that a film is being made on this, it was on my watchlist.

Here I had expressed, what I wanted to see. I thought, it would be narrated from the point of view of students; their struggle and triumph (something like Dangal). But it was mainly narrated from Anand Kumar's point of view.
Film is titled on those 30 students (Super 30). But no student character registered their mark in our mind (like Mr India children, Dangal / Taare Zameen Pei children). We could not carry back any of their memory. The student who came as the narrator in the beginning and end, we could not associate him much with the students (though there was a scene where he said, it was him).
To me, that was the biggest disappointment. That is why I am rating it low.
Let me start from the beginning. I must say, it was difficult to get used to Hritik's look. I didn't realise the need of tanned look for Hritik. Just an unkept look or oily hair would have been sufficient. I felt, it was the case of overdoing. But Hritik's acting was fantastic, except some moments in his early student life. There was a tinge of Koi Mil Gaya mannerisms. You can express shyness and reservedness of a poor bright student, without showing awkwardness. (Nowhere I am saying RS is a better actor. But I am bringing out a scene from Gully Boy. When RS is working as a driver and sees the rich girl crying from the mirror. There is helplessness, but no awkward shyness). I wanted a better performance by Hritik when he meets Mrinal's dad on his birthday. But apart from that (as a tutor), I enjoyed Hritik's performance.
Then Anand's early life. It was portrayed beautifully with old world charm (running to telephone booth which gets cut). Also, his family scenes, starting from cute ones to the heavy ones were just perfect.
Mrinal was adorable while playing cute romantic scene. But I did not feel the intensity when they broke up. I understand, both had realised it was inevitable. But still, the moment when they realise their dreams have no future, I felt it should have had some depth. May be it is director's fault. At least Hritik's character had too much to focus on. But Mrinal's face should have shown some quiet sad feelings.
Even when they meet later. I understand, they were no more lovers. But we could have got one silent intense moment. But no. I was liking her innocent giggles during the short romance time. But the last scene in car, when she giggled again when her husband teased her, it was unbearable. She did not show one heavy moment in the entire film. Again, fault is with the director. If you cannot show any intensity in romance (I am not meaning physical), what was the need to put romance? There should have been few quiet moments stuffed with a good background music. Lack of good music definite draw back.
The scene where Anand is hospitalised. It was bit more dramatic. But I don't know, a commercial film may need such climax (like the delivery scene in 3 Idiots). So will not comment much, though I did not like it in total.
About the story when he starts coaching super 30. Here, Hritik's mannerisms and accent was very much into Anand Kumar's character. But director used the students collectively when Anand Kumar interacted with students. There was no individual connection between any student and Anand Kumar. (This is the reason we could not connect with any of them individually). Just like the way director showed Anand's brother being a witness and interacting to his struggles, if he had involved some of the students too, it would have been more engaging, specially when the results come. (In 3 Idiots, we felt happy to meet millimetre growing up into centimetre. That is because he had individual interaction with the main characters. Without realising, we invested our emotions on him. Here we could not make that individual connection, when any of the kids got selected. We collectively cheered for Anand Kumar).
To summarise, I felt Super 30 was a poorly made film. It did not focus on the kids on whom it was titled. Makers wanted to commercialise it with Anand's personal life's merits and tragedies. His family life was directed good. But romance lacked intensity. Sometimes makers went overboard while dramatising certain events and also Hritik's look.
Still this movie has collected this good because of two things. 1) Inspring theme 2) Hritik's star power and acting. My overall rating is three and a half star.
I was tired on the day after watching. I just wrote the above (last) two lines in my review in Page 41. Now decided to give the extended review, as thread had crossed 100 pages.

It is not a dramatic, glossy film ..It's just a realistic simple heartfelt story. And always publicised as a movie made on Anand Kumar's life.
I had written else where ..It's not what u call a Magnum opus or technical and cinematic brilliance. But the story stays with u.
Bolds..
The narrator, Phugga couldn't take the pressure of competing with privileged students and so he quit and ran away..It's shown towards the climax that he worked as a security guard with the minister and was the one who informed super30 about the attack planned on the hospital and thus saved them all. And he gave his exam next year..
Hrithik's tanned look..It wasn't there initially in student life. He looked handsome enough to attract and fall in love with a rich girl..And even win her dad's approval. The change came after his father's death when he used to help his mom and sell papad under hot sun. Hence tanned disheveled look. Again he looked fine as tutor with excellence classes. Changed when he started super30 with frugal means where they didn't have much finance or a decent place to live. Circumstances affect ur appearance.
Regarding Mrunal, their initial romance was so cute and innocent. Young love..Hrithik's character realized they may have no future together early on when his dad died. But the girl had hopes..And it was conveyed nicely when those hopes were shattered. She said I will somehow manage to live with a stranger. And she did. People mature and move on. But her love and respect was evident when she prevented Super 30 being shut down. And both the men in her life understood her. So she chose a good man to love and another good man to live with. Basically subtle love.
Few scenes were takeaways for me. When students made their own projector when they were short of books. When they shared their food. When they motivated and helped each other in holi sequence and before tests ..When they applied everything they had learned to save their teacher. They r Super30.. Individual interaction with few would be unjust and all cannot be accommodated. But they still showed background of almost all of them.
So ya..It's not a racy, intense, passionate or a showcase movie..It's a movie where things r apt and measured, be it resources or emotions.
Ok I really didn’t like the ending and the hospital scene...it’s unnecessarily dragged.
Brooo we're rocking ya 🥳 So well-deserved! 👏

Wow, he seems like such a great, wise, inspiring and intelligent dad.
Would love to have conversations with him and listen to him talk about anything. There's such flow and love in his words.
Profound one!
