AADI LAKSHMI PURAANA MOVIE REVIEW

Aaditya (Aadi) is an investigation officer, who is pursuing the drug mafia in the country. Lakshmi (Radhika Pandit) is a happy-go-lucky girl, working in a travel agency and living life through pranks and innocent lies. When Aadi and Lakshmi’s paths cross, there is a love story waiting to happen.

The story revolves around Aadi and Lakshmi, where the duo have an apparent chemistry, but still find it hard to confess their love for each other. The film uses the usual formulae seen in romantic comedies, which includes many errors that add to confusion. But, these formulae are used in a refreshing manner.

One often gets to watch those cutesy love tracks in a mainstream commercial film, where the hero romances a girl for a brief moment, but eventually is seen fighting goons and being massy. Priya V’s Aadi Lakshmi Puraana tries to step away from the tried and tested, by emphasizing more on the love story as the soul of the film, while the hero’s mission ends up being just an added track.

The story lives up to what was promised in the trailer, which had generated a fair amount of curiosity. The climax sequence, though, seems too rushed and fizzles out when compared to the boisterous storytelling prior to that.

Nirup follows up on his career with a good onscreen outing. Radhika Pandit reminds one why she's counted among the good actresses in the industry today as her comic timing is effortless and she lights up the screen instantly when the camera is on her. The ensemble cast is well chosen and they do their bit. There are a couple of good melodies from Anup Bhandari, while the cinematography by Preetha Jayaraman is vibrant and engaging.

Aadi Lakshmi Puraana is a fun, romcom that does strike that familiar chord. The narrative works for those who like love stories, but a little taut storytelling could have ensured a seamlessly screenplay. Though, the clever subversion of a massy story into a romcom is laudable.
