I heard from alot of people working in the industry that AM had to lift tunes because of the producers and directors, plus they did alot of south remakes so the south songs were retained...few people working in the music industry told me that they would tell producers/directors that we'll make a song of this style but we dont want to lift it...in fact they would present some 10 alternatives, but the producers/directors wanted the OG Illyaraja song only...so it was mainly against their will...the surprising part is they acknowledge it and even mentioned the above in a few interviews. Anu Mallik on the other hand would rip off willingly and pass it off as his own...but he does have some OGs to his credit

At the end of the day its them who got credits for stuff that did not belong to them in the first place. On whose behest does not really matter. Anu is a known copycat who lifted tunes from any and everyone.

Illayaraja is a maestro and see even today at the age of 70+ he is still around making marvelous music and the ones who stole his work and credit slipped into obscurity.
