Chapter 9
"I am a WOLF", Shaurya'a husky voice and tingling touch were messing with Mehek's senses. His hot breath fanned her ear lobe forcing her to stifle a soft moan. From his position, he could vividly see his mark on her and felt proud of it. May be sensing his gaze, she turned her head to give him ample access to her neck. He wanted to caress his mark but refrained. Mate bond was making her vulnerable yet he knew she will be upset later. Sensing lack of his touch, she faced him. She was unable to tear her eyes from his face. Not caring to comprehend root cause of her desire, she tiptoed to reach his lips and kissed him ardently. He couldn't resist further, infact no one could deny their mate's advances beyond a point. Soon he took the lead and their tongues were dueling. They broke apart to gasp for breath. While he was pulled out of the lusty dream, Mehek was still not in her senses. She snaked her arms around his neck and pulled him closer for another kiss but he managed to stop. "Mehek, this is my office", he told her firmly. She felt as if cold water was splashed on her face.
Mehek looked around and then him. She realised her mistake and was embarrassed beyond limits. She back tracked her steps and touched her lips that had sought comfort from him. She was unable to understand her hunger for him and felt ashamed of herself. Oh God, he will think of me as an easy woman. Why did I behave like a wanton?, her self-esteem was killing her. He could read her thoughts. The mate bond was pulling her and affecting her beside him. He was having a tough time to rein it so could imagine her plight. If he hadn't abstained, their romantic tryst would have escalated to higher level. Eventhough he desired her, he didn't want to advantage of their mate bond. He wanted to win her heart first so that she will be joyful and not ashamed of their togetherness. He wanted to pull her into his arms and comfort her but he withhold his urge. "Mehek ...", he tried to talk but she quickly picked up her bad and dashed outside.
Mehek was shaking but she managed to walk ahead and had a tough time fighting her tears. She was embarrassed by her own behaviour and wanted to escape. As she reached the lift lobby, the lift opened for Vivaan and Rajeev to exit. "Luna!!! What a pleasant surprise", Vivaan exclaimed while Rajeev was also surprised. Mehek ignored Vivaan and turned to Rajeev, "Bhai, I trusted you. I cannot believe you tricked me". Rajeev was perplexed, "Calm down, Mehek. Tell me what happened". Mehek narrated the entire incident. "Mehek, I had no clue about it. Even you kept me in dark. You should have told me that you were trying for a job here. In that case, I would have warned you", Rajeev was hurt. Mehek felt guilty. She didn't want to trouble Rajeev and indeed wanted to keep him away from her career. "May be it's destiny", Vivaan joked but clearly Rajeev & Mehek were not houmoured. "I believe you have signed the employment contract since it's your first day. So you are bound to work here for atleast a month", Vivaan pointed it out quickly. "Mehek, don't worry. I will talk to Shaurya and you will relieved without difficulties", Rajeev pacified. "Wow, so cute", Vivaan mocked Rajeev, "I wish I too had a sweet brother who manages to pull favours bcoz I am too timid to face world".
"I am not a coward", Mehek snapped at Vivaan. "Ofcourse you are. I can understand your dilemma to accept Shaurya. But you both mutually agreed and broke up. Then why are you having issues to work with him? It proves that you are not brave enough", Vivaan taunted her. "Shut up, Vivaan. You are crossing the limits", Rajeev rebuked him and faced Mehek, "Mehek, you don't have to argue with a moron like him to prove yourself". Mehek was on the verge of tears. "Absolutely. No proofs needed. Bcoz I already know that you are a weakling. I am so happy that you are not my Luna", Vivaan taunted her again. "Enough!!", Shaurya's roar echoed amidst them. They all turned to find Shaurya who was not at all pleased with turn of events. Mehek looked down, unable to meet his eyes and hid her tears. "Mehek, you can quit the job. I understand your predicament so I relieve you from the contract. Please meet Bulbul and she will help you", he told her. Mehek nodded and left the trio. She took the lift and went to meet Bulbul.
"I really hope this works. It kills me double cross her", Rajeev sighed as soon as she was out of sight. He then glared at Vivaan who was grinning sheepishly, "You went a bit overboard, Vivaan. I would have smashed your jaw if a tear fell from my sister's eyes". "I would have finished him before you got a chance", Shaurya too was furious. Vivaan gulped nervously, "Bros, it was need of the hour. I am sure Luna will reconsider her decision after my taunts. She is a feisty one". Shaurya growled in anger while Rajeev rolled his eyes. "Grow up, Vivaan else one day you are going to end up in huge trouble", Rajeev advised and went to pursue Mehek.
"I really appreciate the job offer but due to personal reasons it is difficult for me to continue here", Mehek explained it to Bulbul. The tension witnessed in Shaurya's cabin was sure sign for Bulbul to understand her. "It's fine, Mehek. Mr. Khanna has allowed to waver the clause in the job contract you had signed so you are not obliged to continue here. Still as a well-wisher, I would like to advise you", Bulbul paused to gauge her reaction. Mehek eagerly looked up to her, "With your qualification, it will be difficult to find another well-paying job. Moreover the employment agency will also not be keen to give you another opportunity". Mehek signed and looked down hopelessly. "Think about it and give me a call tomorrow", Bulbul gave her business card to Mehek. She took it and left the office. Mehek aimlessly walked ahead and sat on a bench in the garden. "Coffee??", Rajeev's caring voice awoke her from her thoughts.
"I really need a job, Rajeev Bhai", Mehek told Rajeev earnestly, "But I am not confident to work with Shau...I mean Mr Khanna. I am not myself when he is around". "I understand", Rajeev told her. "No, you don't. It's an emotional roller coaster and physical torture. My mind and body revolt against me and end up butchering my self-esteem", she bit down her sobs. "Mehek, believe me when I say it is natural. It is not your fault but the mate bond", he helped her to understand, "still it is not impossible to rein it. Infact I must say you should practice to fight the bond since you have ended it with your mate. I can help you to overcome it", he spoke carefully, "Consider this job as a blessing in disguise ". Mehek looked at him anxiously and listened to tips & tricks carefully.
Next day, Shaurya was extremely glad when he got greeted by his beautiful mate who is now his dutiful secretary. A fake smile was plastered on her face yet for the time being, he was satisfied. He studied her formal attire and couldn't stop admiring that she looked good in any kind of clothes. "I am glad you decided to join. All the best Ms Sharma", he extended his hand to her. Mehek looked at his extended palm nervously and recalled Rajeev's words, "Refrain from any kind of physical contact". She gave another fake smiled and folded her hands, "Thank you, Sir". He felt strange by her actions yet nodded in acknowledgement. He craved for her touch but she was being aloof. He tried to peer into her mind but found it difficult as she was blocking him. He found Mehek squinting her eyes as if trying to focus on something. "Are you okay, Ms Sharma?", he asked her. "Mates can read one another. But it can be blocked. Try to build a wall in your mind and stop him from entering it. Focus and practice are the keys", Mehek remembered again. "I am fine, Sir. Just trying to fit into the new job", she replied professionally and gave him the schedule for the day.
It was lunch time. Mehek was all set to head out of her cabin and meet her new colleagues. She was annoyed when Shaurya summoned her. "Sir, can I have finish my lunch and come?", she asked timidly but he curtly refused. When she came in, he was already seated on the couch with few food boxes set on the table before him. "Join me for lunch", he told her. It wasn't an invitation but a statement. Yet she defied, "Sir, I better won't. It will be good if I join others. Besides I bring my own box for lunch". His blood boiled thinking of Mehek spending time with other males in his office. He wanted to spend as much as time possible with Mehek. "You are MY personal assistant. So your duty is be with me and not with others. Understood?", he told rudely. Mehek was taken aback by his response. Somehow it reminded of their initial when he had tormented her. Fearfully she nodded and sat beside him.
When he gestured, she served him food and opened her lunch box. He was unhappy by her fear. Things were not heading the way he wanted, all thanks to Rajeev and his advises to Mehek. Shauyra calmed himself and tried to chat with Mehek. "What do you have in your box?". "Hmmmm... Nothing special. Just few common dishes my mother prepared", she informed plainly. Without waiting for her permission, he took a spoon full of food from her box. He moaned in pleasure, "This is superb. Your mother has magic in her hands". She smiled at his praise and relaxed a bit. Slowly she started to talk about her mother and he listened carefully. By the time they finished their lunch, Shaurya understood that Meera, her mother is the only family Mehek has. "You told so much about your mother's cooking that I am eager to meet her and taste her food", he told cleverly. "Ofcourse. You can come anytime to our restaurant. Actually it is part of our house. It is a beautiful place and I am sure you will like it", Mehek walked right into his trap. "Then how about this weekend?", he asked quickly. Her eyes widened in shock. She never anticipated a sudden visit from him. Her mother will be happy to meet her boss. Yet deep down Mehek knew Shaurya was not only her boss but more. "Is there a problem, Ms Sharma?", he asked plainly. She gulped and gave a weak smile, "No, Sir. I will be happy to have you to my home". He smirked satisfactorily while she exited his cabin being tensed.
