Hey guys! sorry for being late. I have been a little busy on the professional front lately and then after a long day, the very thought of sitting and sending PM's 10 times and the re-spacing of the whole update is very tiring and pretty demotivating. Hence, the delay.

Part 4

Ignoring the rest, he started to coax and coo her…………………………..

Suryakant turned to Shweta in disbelief: Shweta tum hi samjhao ise ab! Had hai yaar!

Shweta was enjoying the banter between them: kyun? Main kyun samjhau? Tumhara betahaina? Tum hi samjhao

Suryakant(whining) :Shweta!

Suddenly Arjun called out excitedly: Maa!!! (all eyes turned to him) dekho isne meri ungli pakad li!!!

Shweta smiled widely and went to him.

Suryakant continued to complain: huh! Bete ne bulaya toh ek baar main chali gayi mere itne kehne par bhi nahi sunti!

Rathore and the boys were having a tough time to control their laughter.

On the other hand, the baby had tightly wrapped her palm around Arjun’s index finger refusing to let go. Arjun’s heart leapt in joy. He chuckled and kissed her hand.

Arjun: are meri Pari, main yahi hun, tumhe chodkar kahi nahi jaunga…promise!

Shweta caressed his hair. Arjun happily started to talk to her.

Arjun: maa dekho na

Shweta: dekh rahi hun, bahot pyaari hai….bilcul tumhari tarah

Arjun(surprised): meri tarah? Main bhi chota tha toh itna cute tha?

Shweta chuckled: ha

Arjun looked at his daughter again( Muttering): acha? (thinking) are nahi maa, main 200% sure hun, Pari mujhse zyaada cute hai (playing with her) haina Pari? Tum papa ki pyaari bachi hona? (cuddling her) haina?

Shweta shook her head, wiping a tear form the corner of her eyes. Finally, she saw the smile on her son’s face again.

Flashback Ends

From not wanting the child at all to being super possessive about her….all it took was that one moment! The one moment when the nurse gave her to him telling him he was her father. Life had become rosy again for him. Shivangi, as they later named her, was the whole garden for him.

He didn’t let her out of his sight even for a moment. The second he came home from office, no one could touch or play with her. He took her completely for himself, fulfilling all his duties and more as an ideal father.

He had thought that Roshni would change atleast a little with her in their life now. But he was wrong, she remained the same. She barely took care of her,always giving the responsibility to Shweta and Suryakant under pretext of the grandparents spending time with her and both of them always fell into her scheme. It would be a blue moon miracle if Shivangi was in her arms when he came home. He had fights with her regarding her ignorance but as usual it was of no use…

Flashback

It was around 1 in the night when Shivangi suddenly started crying loudly. Arjun immediately woke up and went to her crib. He picked her up and tried to calm her.

Arjun: kya hua meri bachi ko? Kyun ro rahi ho? (bouncing her) nahi mere bache…nahi rote…(pointing outside the window) dekho woh dekho! Aasmaan mein kya hai? chanda mama…(Shivangi cried louder and looked away) okay, okay aasmaan mat dekho, aasmaan bura hai okay?

Roshni got irritated at the loud cries and opened her eyes in annoyance.

Roshni(sleepily): Dammit! Arjun use baahar lekar jao!

Arjun glared at her: kyun?

Roshni: kyun ka kya matlab hai? sone do mujhe! Pata nahi ise aadhi raat ko kaunsa naatak sujh raha hai

Arjun: Watch Your Words! Main kahi nahi jaane waala. Agar tumhe itni problem ho rahi hai toh aakar shaant karo ise

Roshni: ugh! Aadhi raat ko bhi tumhe mujhse argument karni hai? tumhari beti hai tum sambhalo! And for god’s sake iski awaaz kam karo!!

Arjun(angrily): Roshni Apni Had Paar Mat Karo!! Tum Kabhi Bhi…

His raised voice scared Shivangi and she started crying louder again. Arjun turned to her in distress.

Arjun :nahi bache kuch nahi….shaant ho jao….papa haina? (glaring at Roshni) tumse main baad mein baat karunga

Saying so he left the room, all the while coaxing the little one.

Roshni: whatever!

She plopped back on the bed and snuggled into the sheets. On the other hand, Arjun went into the garden and managed to distract Shivangi with the flowers growing there. As she calmed down, he rested her against his shoulder and softly sang her a lullaby lulling her into a peaceful sleep.

FlashbackEnds

Even though things continued to be tough with Roshni, he had his daughter to dote over. Shivangi had become his new support system. He didn’t mind anymore that his parents had swayed completely to Roshni. As long as Shivangi was in front of his eyes, nothing could keep him sad. he spent all his time out of office with her….

Flashback

Arjun was sitting on his bed against the headboard with Shivangi, supporting her by his legs.

Arjun:….fir pata hai kya hua? Rajkumar ne jhat se chalang lagayi aur us rakshas ko maar diya! Fir usne rajkumari ko bacha kar usse shaadi kar li!

Shivan gigiggled and flailed her arms: aa…pa..apa

Arjun's eyes widened in shock: kya? Kya kaha…..fir… firse kaho?

Shivangi: pa…apa….papa….pa….

His heart jumped in happiness at her first word: SHIVI!!!! (he hugged her tightly and kissed her cheek repeatedly) I Love You! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!

Shivangi laughed: papa!!

Arjun teared up as he cuddled her close to his heart: meri bachi!

Flashback Ends

Arjun jerked out of thoughts when Riya braked sharply. He stared at her as she turned to him.

Riya: sorry, woh end moment par signal yellow ho gaya

Arjun(muttering): koi baat nahi

He switched off the AC and rolled down the window. Resting his elbow on the sill, he stared out on the road. Riya concentrated on the wheel again. Life had suddenly gone weird for her. It had all started when she first laid her eyes on him.

Flashback

She nervously walked into the ETF quarters. Taking the Chief’s whereabouts from the receptionist, she moved towards the conference room. She stopped at the door for a second. Muttering a quick prayer, she knocked and entered inside. Three boys stared at her. A quick mental calculation gave her the impression that the moustached man was her boss. She saluted him.

Riya: Jai Hind sir! Research Specialist Riya Mukherjee reporting on duty

Rathore stood up: oh yes, I have been expecting you, letter?

Riya pulled out an envelope and gave it to him. Rathore studied it and nodded.

Rathore: main tumhara Chief hun, ACP Sameer Damsingh Rathore, (gesturing to the other two) ye Commando Chandrakant Patil aur Technical head Shreekant Sen. Boys! Show her around

The trio exchanged a warm smile between them.

Shree: sure sir!

Just then Arjun entered the room. Riya automatically turned to the new entry.Butterflies grew wild in her stomach. There was something around him, something that was making her flush, something that was pulling her to him. Her eyes remained stuck on him. She felt like she could look at him all day long and never get tired.

Rathore smiled at him: right on time as always, Riya! ye ACP Arjun Suryakant Rawte hai second-in-command, Rawte, we have a research specialist now

His blank face remained but he extended his hand forward.

Arjun: welcome to ETF, Miss Riya

Riya jerked back to earth. Seeing his hand forward, she lifted hers. It was shivering. Stabilizing it, Riya cursed herself and shook his hand. The moment she touched his hand, an electric current passed through her body. She withdrew her hand as soon as it was professionally acceptable to do so. Riya struggled to keep a normal smile intact.

Riya: th..ank you sir!

Arjun narrowed his eyes at her behavior. Understanding his scrutiny, Riya lowered her eyes. Fortunately help arrived in the form of Shree.

Shree: chale Riya?

Riya: sure!

Flashback Ends

It was love at first sight for her and it freaked her out. It freaked her out that he was her boss and she barely knew anything other than his name and she had fallen for him. As days passed, her self control troubles only increased when she realised her Chief was a sexist jerk who never allowed her on field unless they needed a lady to go undercover and believed that women could never be successful in their job. She fought with him every single day. There were times when he won and there were times when she won. Arjun came into the picture the days when Rathore won. He would take responsibility of Riya not bungling up on himself and allow her in on interrogations and crime scenes.

Despite the irritating nature of Rathore, she found loyal friends in Shree and Chotu. The trio had formed a respectful bond between them. However, they were also the ones who broke her heart.

Flashback

The juniors were enjoying a peaceful lunch in the canteen without their bosses.

Riya: yaar, tum dono toh itne time se yaha ho. Ek baat batao, ye Rathore sir aur Arjun sir ulte kyun hai?

Chotu :matlab? Dono apne pair par hi toh chalte hai (Shree was about to say something)haila! Chudail ki tarah dono ke pair ulte hai?!?!

Riya: are Chotu mera matlab tha ki, Rathore sir dikhte itne ache aur andar se itne haraami type ke hai aur Arjun sir dikhte khadoos hai, jatate bhi aise hi hai, lekin hai understanding, aisa kyun?

Shree chuckled: are yaar itni gaali mat de, kisi ne sun liya toh musibat khadi ho jaayegi

Riya: main nahi darti kisi se, tu bol na

Shree: waise actually ha, but Rathore sir sirf tujhe leke waise ho jaate hai. I mean isse pehle kabhi bhi humne unhe aise behave karte nahi hai…lady officers se bhi, kabhi-kabhi zaroorat padne par hum desk holders mein se kisi ko le jaate the but woh kabhi itna hyper nahi hote the, shayad tu permanent basis par hai isliye…you know, constant commitment

Riya rolled her eyes.

Chotu: aur rahi baat Arjun sir ki toh, woh aise nahi the, strict zaroor the but khadoos type ke strict nahi the actually us hadse ke baad woh itna detach hogaye

Riya: hadsa? Kaisa hadsa?

Shree: ek saal pehle unki beti ki ek accident mein maut ho gayi thi…

Flashback2

Arjun had spearheaded the ETF against a certain Sikandar. In return, the gangster had threatened him to stay away but Arjun was never one of those to get intimidated by law breakers like them. The four boys were all in the conference room discussing about the next step when Arjun’s phone rang.

Arjun :ha maa?

His mother’s words froze him. Seeing his reaction, Rathore shook him. The phone dropped from Arjun’s hand.

Sameer: Arjun kya hua?

Arjun came out of his trance: Shivi….accident…main…(coming into his senses) mujhe jaana hai!

He ran out. Rathore, Shree and Chotu took off behind him, dread passing over them.Two SUV’s sped off to reach the accident spot. Arjun almost crashed his car into the pavement, jumping out before it even stopped properly. Rathore’s arrived seconds behind him and they all sprang out. Arjun ran towards the tapes.

Roshni was weeping on her father’s shoulder. Shweta and Suryakant stood near, his hand around her shoulder in a futile effort to comfort her while he shed tears himself.

Suryakant: Arjun…

But his words never reached Arjun’s brain. A havaldaar tried to stop Arjun from entering but he pushed him away roughly and entered. Other officers were about to pounce on him when the inspector gestured them not to.

Arjun stood rooted to the ground. His eyes fixed on the broken stroller, the crushed body of Shivangi in it. Blood splattered all around. He slowly went on his knees.

A whisper escaped his mouth: Shivi…

With shivering hands, he cradled her in his arms. He patted her to try and wake her but she didn’t respond.

Arjun(cracking): Shivangi…beta…dekho…papa aa gaye, utho…utho na, Shivangi! UTHO!!!

Rathore wiped away his tears and kneeled beside Arjun.

Rathore(placing a hand on his shoulder): Arjun

He tried to speak, he wanted to comfort him but no words came out of his mouth,only water dropped from his eyes.

Arjun turned to him: Sam… dekh na Shivi sun nahi rahi…(shaking her) Shivangi utho na,papa se baat kyun nahi kar rahi ho? Aankhein kholo na….SHHIVIIIIII !!!

Unable to take it anymore, he hugged Arjun tightly causing him to break down completely. His roses had wilted again.

Flashback 2 Ends

Riya was shocked. Not just at the fact that he was married, but also that he had gone through so much pain. She wished she could do something to ease out his pain. It was at that moment she put all her feelings for him in a box and secured it an a corner of her heart. Shree and Chotu teared up remembering the incident. It wasn’t just Shivangi’s horrific accident that had traumatised them but also Arjun’s reaction to it.

Shree: ek truck driver ke brake fail ho gaye the aur uske chakkar mein….Arjun sir ne apni beti kho di. Bahot pyaar karte the usse. Bas uske baad hi woh, aise hogaye

Riya: brake fail hua toh…use saza nahi hui?

Shree: nahi, genuine accident tha. jab tak hum sabne hosh sambhala aur Arjun sir ko strike hue ki ye Sikandar ka kiya karaya ho sakta hai toh humne investigate kiya, pata chala ki woh driver, uska naam, pata sab kuch galat hai. fraud tha lekin tab tak bahot der ho gayi thi aur aaj tak Arjun sir Sikandar ko dhundhne ki aur use saza dene ki taak mein hai

Riya :I hope woh din jaldi aaye

Chotu: hum sab wahi hope kar rahe hai Riya, (angrily) mujhe samaj mein nahi aata ki koi itna Ghatiya kaise ho sakta hai ki ek choti si bachi ka aisa dard naakqatal kare. Uske liye toh faasi ki saza bhi kam hai!

Flashback Ends

Riya glanced at Arjun. He was finally in the last stage of giving his daughter justice and she wouldn’t let anyone take that away from him. Not even his parents.If they hated her, so be it!

She wordlessly holds his hand. Arjun turned towards her. She gave him a small smile.

Arjun: driving par dhyaan do Riya, warna hum dono upar pahunch jaayenge

Riya chuckled: chinta mat kijiye, itna toh multitasking kar hi sakti hu

Arjun: yea?

Riya: ha apne best friend se puchiye, kitni time maine unse jhagadte waqt,saath-saath man mein gaaliyaan di hai

Arjun shook his head, peace returning to his face, he entwined his fingers with hers in response. He stared at her while she focused on the road. He knew she was just trying to make him feel better, trying to take his mind off things. She had always been this way…tender and caring.

Flashback

Arjun was in his cabin, searching through the cupboard for a file when a knock soundedat the door.

Arjun: come in

Riya entered with a bunch of papers in her hand.

Riya: sir woh kuch signatures chahiye

Arjun turned to her and came near the table. She handed him the papers and that’s when she saw red on his forearm.

Riya: sir ye kya? Aapne dressing nahi ki abhi tak?

Arjun: zaroorat nahi hai Riya, ghar jaakar kar lunga

Riya looked at him incredulously: Ghar Jaakar?! Tab Tak Infection Ho Jaayega!! Had karte hai aap sir! (making him sit) rukiye main kar deti hu

Startled,he tried to protest but she had already gone to get the first aid kit. Her love maybe wrong and hidden but she wasn’t going to sit and watch him become so careless. She returned a few minutes later with the box and a bowl of water. Riya pulled a chair near his. She opened the box and took his hand.

Arjun: Riya tum khamakha...

Riya: sir please, chaaku ka ghaav hai, use seriously lijiye

Arjun sighed and shut up. Riya cleaned his wound first, removing all the dried blood from in and around it. She took a piece of cotton and coated it with antiseptic. Arjun winced the second the second the liquid came in contact with his broken skin.

Arjun:Riya jal raha hai…

Riya(apologetically): sorry, par lagana toh padega na?

She bent a little and blew at his hand every time she pressed the cotton on it to lessen the pain. Arjun balled his fists in reaction. He stared at her.

All her concentration was on his wound. The sunlight coming in from the window was giving her a golden glow. A strand of hair lay loose on one side of her face.Her soft breaths on his skin gave him an unknown relief.

Riya(worried): dard ho raha hai? bandage loose karu?

Arjun came out of trance: nahi….theek hai

Riya wrapped the gauze firmly and tied the loose ends: dhyaan rakhiyega is par paani na pade warna infection ho sakta hai

Arjun nodded: thanks

Riya gave him her signature smile warming his heart: you’re always welcome!
