Rathore piped in adding fuel to the fire: aunty, Arjun ko kuch bhi kehne se koi faayda nahi, (he looked down upon Riya) Ye Sab Zaroor Is Riya Ka Kiya Karaya Hai! Jab Se Aayi Hai Tab Se Bas Problems Create Kar Rahi Hai!!

Riya felt like punching him in the face but controlled for the sake of Arjun. She would have probably felt a little guilt if it would have come from Arjun’s parents but the man in question was Rathore and she wouldn’t care what he said to her.

Riya: wahi problem sir jo aapke male ego ko satisfy nahi kar paati?

Rathore balled his fists in anger. Shree and Chotu glanced at each other in worry whereas Suryakant and Shweta were shocked at her audacity.

Rathore: Aur Kitni Besharam Banogi Riya? Kisi Ka Ghar Todte Hue Ratti Bhar Ka Bhi Afsos Nahi Hota Hai Tumhe? Tumhare Jaisi Ladkiyaan….

Arjun: Rathore Enough! Maine Kaha Na Riya Ko Beech Mein Mat Lao! Tum…

Riya answered Rathore in her own way: aap apne opinion apne paas hi rakhiye, mujhe apna character certificate ek character less insaan se lene ki koi zaroorat nahi hai!

Rathore flared up: How Dare You! YO…

Riya :I decide my dares and dare not’s ACP Rathore! Aur kaan kholkar sun lijiye, Agar Roshni ne is office ke baahar kadam bhi rakha (she stepped forward threateningly) toh main pure ETF par negligence of duty ka case thok dungi (his eyes widened in shock) Fir Uske Saath-Saath Apna Case Bhi Ladte Rehna Court Mein Samjhe? (holding Arjun hand) chaliye Arjun!

Before anyone could reel form the shock she just gave, Riya left the office, dragging Arjun along with her.

She banged the door of the car shut and let out a sigh of relief while putting her hands on the steering wheel.

Riya: that was close

Arjun: close? We got caught!

Riya turned to him: um…ha but…well…(turning her focus away) never mind, unhe bharosa dilana mushkil toh hone hi waala tha aur upar se hum bhi toh…?

She shrugged, igniting the car and started driving. Arjun muttered in agreement and closed his eyes, putting his head on the headrest. A silent tear rolled down from the corner of his eye as the words of his parents haunted him. He had never wanted to hurt them. All he had done was to try and keep them happy. Even though his father never grew to cherish him, he kept trying to fulfil his wishes. His mother had been his sole support all the years as he grew up even after Suryakant had asked him to choose between the career he wanted and them,it was Shweta’s support which had encouraged him to follow his dreams. He had left home but frequently visited them. Shweta was always delighted to see him and Suryakant turned a blind eye to him being there.

His shoulders drooped as he recalled the decision that had turned his life miserable. In order to get hold of deal and expand his business, Suryakant had proposed his hand in marriage to Vikram Shekhawat’s daughter Roshni. Arjun was barely 21. He had outright refused to marry, wanting to focus on his career and not willing to get involved in his father’s business in any way possible.Besides who knew how the girl was, whether they would be compatible or not?

But Suryakant would have none of it! He forbade Arjun from ever entering the house and blackmailed him with never meeting Shweta. Seeing through into her husband’s schemes, she herself told Arjun to leave but he couldn’t. He could bear the complete separation from his father but her? No….never! Besides,people always said, everything turns up right at the end in marriages, how bad could it turn out to be?

Unfortunately for him, his happy ending never came through. A few days in, he realised that Roshni was a self-centred manipulator. His father was on the 7th heaven getting hold of the business deal and regarded Roshni as the pillar of it. As it is, his relation with Suryakant was never great and with Roshni into the picture it had turned even more fragile. She would tell everyone that she was helping her father in business and Suryakant would only taunt Arjun that atleast she cared for her father’s legacy when in reality the truth was she would be partying and trifling away all the time with her friends.

Flashback

Arjun was getting ready for office. Roshni was busy talking on the phone. He put his hairbrush aside and reached for his wallet but it wasn’t there. He looked around but it was nowhere to be found.

Arjun: Roshni mera wallet dekha? (Roshni didn’t respond) Roshni? (Still no response)Roshni!!

Roshni gets annoyed: acha Divya main baad mein baat karti hu (hanging up) Kya Hai Kyun Chilla Rahe Ho?

Arjun: ise chillana kehte hai?

Roshni: kya kaam hai tumhe?

Arjun: mera wallet dena

Roshni :main tumhari biwi hun naukrani nahi khud le lo

Arjun controlled himself. He had gotten used to her attitude but it didn’t mean he approved of it.

Arjun: tumhare har baat par ulta jawab dena zaroori hai? seedhe se sawaal ka seedha jawab dena nahi seekhi?

Roshni :tumne itna seekh liya toh apni cheezon ko dhundhna nahi seekha?

Arjun: Tumse Toh Baat Karna Hi Bekar Hai!

He stormed out of the room. He asks the servant as he walked down the stairs.

Arjun: kaka, maa kaha hai?

Manohar :memsahib rasoi ghar mein hai chote maalik

Arjun skipped away: thanks!

He went into the kitchen and grabbed an apple. Shweta smiled seeing him there and strained the tea into cups.

Shweta: good morning

Arjun: are kya good morning maa, wallet nahi mil raha hai, aapne dekha kya?

Shweta giggled: are mujhe kaise pata hoga? apni biwi se pucho, ab toh tumhare kamre par uska raaj chalega

Arjun: kuch bhi kya maa? Uski chodo! Aapne dekha?

Shweta: maine nahi dekha baba, Roshni ko pucha na, usne shayad dusri jagah par rakh diya hoga

Arjun sighed: puch chuka hun

Shweta: kya kaha usne?

Arjun: use jawab dena aata hai? woh chup rehkar sar hilana bhi seekh le toh kaafi hai

Shweta turned to him: Arjun ye kya tareeka hai? patni hai woh tumhari

Arjun :yea? Ye baat use bhi yaad dila do

Shweta: oho Arjun baat kya hai?

Arjun let out a deep breath: kya batau aapko? Woh (controlling)…mujhe nahi pasand uske taur-tareeke.

She gently tried to explain: Arjun thoda compromise toh tumhe bhi karna hoga na? sab kuch wahi toh nahi kar sakti

Arjun: maa baat compromise ki nahi hai, main…Roshni…hum dono ki soch mein aasmaan zameen ka farak hai, uske liye koi rishta maayine nahi rakhta upar se papa ne use sar par chada kar rakha hai….maa aap hi batao, agar shuruwat hi aisi hai toh ye rishta kaise aage badega? Kabhi-kabhi toh mujhe lagta hai jaise main apni hi zindgi mein kaid ho gaya hu

Shweta was about to console him when Roshni came.

Roshni: are Arjun, tum apna wallet kamre mein bhul gaye ye lo

Arjun looked at her in shock. Shweta glanced between the two of them. Arjun mechanically took his wallet.

Shweta: ye toh gayab ho gaya tha na?

Roshni(surprised): gayab? Nahi maa, wahi dressing table par chut gaya tha.

Arjun: kya bakwas hai ye? Ye waha ho hi nahi sakta!!

Roshni: Arjun kal tumne ghar aakar wahi toh rakha

Arjun :ha rakha tha lekin subah waha nahi tha! Aur Jab Maine Tumse Pucha Toh Tum Apni Us Divya Ke Saath Baat Karne Mein Zyaada Busy Thi

Roshni(innocently): kya bol rahe ho Arjun? Tumne mujhse kab pucha? Aur main kisi Divya ko nahi jaanti, tum kiski baat kar rahe ho?

Arjun flared up: Jhoot! Tum…

Shweta intervened seeing things heating up: Arjun

He stopped at her insistence but continued to glare at Roshni. Roshni continued to feign innocence and looked at them in confusion before lowering her eyes in shyness.

Shweta (littlefirmly): tumhe mil gaya na apna wallet, naashta kar lo late ho jaoge

Arjun(irritated): bhook nahi mujhe! Jaa raha hun

And before either of the ladies could give any reaction he left, leaving the half eaten apple on the counter. Shweta was confused. She glanced at Roshni wholooked hurt from the accusations. She sighed wondering what the truth was.

Flashback Ends

Slowly, but steadily even Shweta started to fall into the trap. She had been cautious about Roshni but welcomed her with open arms just like Arjun had. The only difference was, he was able to see through her and step away. Shweta started to put Roshni’s needs as a priority unintentionally ignoring Arjun’s. Despite being under the same roof, she failed to notice her son’s plight. It wasn’t like the elders weren’t aware of the clashes between them. They were, what they weren’t aware of however, was the intensity of the dryness between them. It was very well visible that Arjun wasn’t making any efforts from his part and their relationship was mostly for namesake. However, as Roshni was able to hide her shortcomings fabulously, the blame always ended up on Arjun.

As the marriage passed a year, another challenge showed up in front of him.Freaking everybody wanted a grandchild! They thought a child would bring the couple closer to one another. For some reason, even Roshni started pestering him with the same. He couldn’t understand why she suddenly wanted to take the duty of being a mother when she could not even be a wife! He didn’t need another blunder in his life and had politely refused saying that he wasn’t ready for the commitment. And then, business tycoon Vikram Shekhawat suddenly became a heart patient and had to undergo a major surgery. And what did he want to do before he suddenly died? He wanted to see the face of his grandchild.

The situations continued to frustrate Arjun. The worst part of it all was that he had no one with who he could share his feelings with....not even Shweta. Not anymore. Roshni’s pregnancy had only increased his stress. He hated the moments when he touched her for first and last time. He didn’t want a child and especially not when she was the mother. He turned indifferent the moment he stepped into the house. He didn’t care whether she was there or not, whether she was keeping well or not and completely started ignoring her. Finally the day came and tiny footsteps brought the emotions back into his life…

Flashback

Arjun was in office in the midst of a case discussion when his phone rang.

Arjun(confused):ha papa?

Suryakant(cheerfully): Arjun jaldi se hospital pahuncho, Roshni ko labour pains shuru ho gaye hai

Arjun: hm

Call disconnect

Rathore :kya hua?

Arjun :Roshni ko admit kiya hai, delivery hone waali hai

The three boys jumped in happiness.

Rathore: are toh itni mari hui shakal bana kar kyun bol raha hai, jaldi chal, main bhi toh dekhu, kiska chacha ban raha hu?

Arjun :aur ye case kaun mera chacha solve karega?

Rathore(incredulously): oh god! Arjun abhi bhi case?

Shree: sir hum jaldi waapis aa jaayenge please hume bhi dekhna hai

Chotu: ha sir please, hum case khatam kar denge

Rathore smiled: are use kya please kar rahe ho? Main keh raha hu na? chalo!

Shree and Chotu leaped out of their chairs in excitement and ran outside. Arjun rolled his eyes and followed.

Hospital-

Arjun had already decided that he was going to have to do nothing with the child. The sole reason of being there was to not listen another lecture from his parents.Let that lady raise the child on her own maybe then her true colours would be out in the open. ETF, and Arjun’s parents were all waiting impatiently. Vikram was not able to arrive due to being out of station. Their wait finally bore fruit as a nurse brought a tiny pink bundle in her arms cooing at it. She smiled at Arjun while giving her in his sceptical, reluctant hands.

Nurse:congratulations! Ladki hai, aap pita ban gaye

A cheer broke out behind him but he was oblivious to them. The words of the nurse fixated in his mind. One look at the girl in his arms and all his resolve vanished. A wide grin plastered to his face as she stretched her hands and yawned. Getting overwhelmed with emotions, his eyes teared up. He softly kissed her forehead and cuddled her.

Arjun(whispering): meri bachi

Suryakant came forward: are Arjun mujhe bhi meri poti ka chehra dekhna do

He was about to take her from him when Arjun stepped behind in alarm.

Arjun :Nahi!!

Suryakant :kya nahi? (forwarding his arms again) do mujhe

Arjun immediately hugged her to him and went in the opposite direction.

Arjun: nahi main nahi dunga! Woh kitni choti hai, aap gira denge toh? Use chot lag jaayegi!

The men stared at him in disbelief while Shweta burst into laughter. Her laughter brought Suryakant out of his trance.

Suryakant: Arjun! Mujhe bache sambhalna aata hai! jab tum paida hue toh Shweta se pehle maine tumhe haath mein liya tha!!

Arjun(childishly):toh kya hua? Mujhe paida hue 23 saal ho gaye! Aapki practice chali gayi!!

Suryakant(incredulously): meri practice chali gayi? Arjun ke bache! Tumne toh ek bhi baar kisi bache ko haath mein nahi liya, agar use koi girayega toh woh tum ho Ab Do Mujhe!

Arjun: Maine Kaha Na Nahi!!

He walked further away and gently placed the glass doll on the bench while kneeling in front of it.

Arjun: Main Meri Bachi Kisi Ko Nahi Dunga!

Ignoring the rest, he started to coax and coo her…………………………..
