Annihilation
There is a trend in science fiction movies to shift away from the usual space battles and blowing up aliens to include elements that are philosophical. I am not sure what I think about it. Avatar was a blockbuster thanks to James Cameron's imagination. Prometheus ruined the Alien series for me. Arrival was a headscratcher.

Annihilation falls somewhere between Arrival and Avatar. Visually it is stunning. Kudos to the imagination for recreating the shimmer and its impact on screen. There are some thrilling sequences too with the mutated crocodile and bear. Both Natalie Portman and Gina Rodriguez are pretty badass in fatigues with weapons. Why aren't there more action movies with them? There is a really well choreographed and trippy conflict sequence at the end too.

Part of me wanted an alien combat film. I wanted Natalie's character, Lena, to find the source of the shimmer and destroy it a la mode Ripley from Alien. But Annihilation is too philosophical and cerebral for that. So instead it engages in intrigue and mystery. The story is narrated in flashbacks. Lena's husband Kane is the sole survivor of a trip into the shimmer, but he is dying. This prompts Lena to volunteer for the next mission. There is a backstory to everyone else who volunteered and there is a deeper meaning of guilt, loss and the human tendency of self-destruction attached to it. And in true sci-fi fashion, we have a final twist that leaves us conflicted, confused, what is reality and what isn't.

To be honest, I don't understand the ending. So if you have suggestions of good explain videos that explain the plot and ending, I will be grateful. It took me several viewings of Donnie Darko to warm up to the film and its philosophical puzzles.

I think the lack of understanding is what ruins it for me. I like the concept of shimmer. I like what it does to life on earth. I like the mystery of teams going into the shimmer and failing to return. I loved the visuals. I loved the acting. But ultimately, I'm a bit of a simpleton. Some alien skull bashing would have made me say this is the greatest movie ever. But like Arrival there was no skull bashing. Like Arrival, it unfolds slowly and cryptically. Unlike arrival though, this one does pack in some cool thrills and chills.

Don't get me wrong. Annihilation is definitely worth a watch. Its lack of Oscar nominations is also perturbing. But you know how sometimes you don't enjoy or like things that you simply don't get. Annihilation falls in that category. Masterfully crafted in terms of visuals and acting. You had me going for a while. But W*F happened in the end there?

Watched October. I remember I was excited for its release, but after that the reviews from people subdued my interest. I was prepared to doze off.. as many had said the film is boring and slow... But.. surprisingly I really liked it! It was melancholic.. but beautifully melancholic. I felt for Dan.. and my.. Varun was so so good. šŸ‘ Banita had so little to do.. that I think this shouldn't be considered her debut lol. It was Varun's show all the way.. and he played the role so effortlessly. . I felt like giving Dan a tight hug. :( There's nothing in the film apart from hospital scenes and hotel scenes and a few scenes in the house.. but still.. there is something so hypnotic about the whole theme.. I was completely drawn into it. It is so unconventional that I totally understand why it didn't work ..or why most people didn't like it. I am myself surprised that I loved it.. ā¤ļø
4/5 from me.

Raazi

3.5/5

Good movie.. but nothing really special about it. Wasn't really the best movie of 2018 or something. Also.. Alia was good not outstanding.. some of her emo scenes weren't upto the mark... I wasn't that impressed by her...and felt like she can do better or has done better. But IMO she looked her best in this movie.. so pretty! The pace of the film was the best thing.. not a single dull moment and you are totally hooked. Vicky was charming, and all supporting characters were good. Overall, a good movie. .thats it.

I am legend

Well, no one warned me its a zombie movie.. or I wouldn't have watched it. Don't like zombie movies and didn't like this one too.

Tech Toys Season 4 Episode 1 (Netflix)

The electric bike has a really cool design and I can totally imagine riding it here in Delhi. The way they described that it's got great balance and safe to ride, I suppose it would be a great option for teens and older people too. Looks pretty futuristic and sleek.

The all terrain tricycle is a good idea. I don't see my use for it personally but I suppose those who bike a lot, it could be great for them.

The kayak was amazing. I love that you can fold it and take with you. I don't like near a waterbody but if I did I would definitely be taking up this hobby just to use that awesome kayak.

The hoverboard is a bit too futuristic I think. I'm glad there's so much innovation happening though. I would keep falling off of it though šŸ˜† *clumsy*

Duck Duck Goose (2018)

It was beautiful. It doesn't have Pixar or Disney level animation but that's okay. I loved the story and it's depiction though predictable. Some of the references were really hilarious. I enjoyed it. That squirrel Carl seemed copy/inspired version of Buck from Ice Age series.

Star Trek Discovery Season 2

I love the series. May be i am among the few people who like both Star Wars and Star Trek series šŸ˜†
However, Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham is literally in every scene. She is there to solve every single problem. I get it the story is narrated from her POV. But it started bothering me this season. It seems unfair to the other characters imo. They remain under-utilized and underdeveloped. Halfway through the season, i feel let down. However, it's still intriguing. The way captain Pike looks at Burnham, it feels like captain Lorca from S1. This is keeping me hooked to the show šŸ˜†

Gully Boy review contains spoilers
Ranveer was mindblowing as Murad his acting is superb and so distinct from his previous characters. I loved his rapping since lvrb so this was an absolute treat for me. I loved doori title track even azaadi was quite good. I absolutely loved the rap battles especially the competition one.
Sid as Sher was amazing I thought he was a real rapper he was so authentic and I liked his friendship with murad
Kalki was ok graffiti scene was nice

I liked beginning murat safeena scenes they understand each others silences and can just be with each other on the bus. I liked the scene where safeena did not want to lose her individuality in the relationship as she says when gifting ipad. Murad cheating on Safeena was not ok and their makeup scene was not justifiable as both took it lightly.

I liked safeena's bond with her dad. However, Alia's character was really aggressive she is sending the wrong message out about violence sorry is not enough for such violent physical assaults in particular the bottle one. I did not like the cheating part either it was not shown well and could be developed better including the way safeena forgives him and murad asking for forgiveness, cheating is not ok. Alia cannot cry and I could not connect with her character emotionally. I felt to an extent she was not really needed in the story her character was too violent.

It was nice to see murad remember his roots at the end and feed the gully children
In the end they could have had a better song I didn't like the song in the credits
3.5/5 I liked the movie for ranveer and sid

Wayne (Jan 2019)
Brought by Youtube Orginals. I know they usually come up with crappy stuff but this one is just worth your time.

Wayne is one of the best shows of 2019. It is about a violent 16 yo teenager who sets out to retrieve his father's gold car with Del's help by whom Wayne is completely besotted.
Wayne has his own wrong ways of correcting others wrongdoings.

It's an action comedy. Some scenes are brutal but the show is absolutely worth-watching. Binge-watched the whole season 1 today.

The characters of Wayne and Del are fantastically played by the actors. I'm already eager for S2 now.

This series is on www.youtube.com, if you search boxed with " wayne " and btw,...best bet be,... if you have installed small Leonflix, ( https://leonflix.net/ ) program on PC, then also you can watch thro that,..

I saw first three episodes, with few yawns here , there,... and in a desire, that what would be teh best mode to shut this shitt OFF,...and did not find it any so interesting at all,... unless and until you ran out of all the Movies in your watch list.

Series has no story almost, except a vagabond, weirdo 16 yrs sar-fira kid and his GF and all wrongdoings,... Police and principal looking for him,... guy breaks others' windows, burns his dead father with house, runs away to FL with another arse-hole GF, ( all arse-hole members in his and her family and everywhere,... neither there is good action, comedy, story, suspense, mystery,.. or no nothing, but simply a boredom series coming on the TV on some boring day, like,...

Didn't appeal to me,... :(

I hate nearly all Series unless it is like Jack Ryan, Scared games, Mirzapur like,...

Other than that, they all R like,... bore-dome TV daily Soap-opera on mid-noon TV, and you just turn ON the TV and ignore those and do your own work in the living room while walking around,...and stare once in a while at TV, every 5 minutes, for 2-4 seconds,...and rest ignore it,... This is sort of like that,...

Avoid,...
