in a way..it gives confidence to makers to invest such big numbers on a movie solely riding on the female lead..

with ek ladki's disastrous BO..and open weeks till gully boy..and only competition being URI..i think it can comfortably hit a 100..which may end up making it a semi hit..

also the movie has been sold to distributors at 65-70..and verdicts are given based on loss/profits to distributors..who are safely making profits here..
same reason how a houseful 3 was a clean hit at 100cr with budget of 100cr..it is price sold to distributors which determines verdict

Agreed. We have to give credit where its due. Looking at the earnings and box office - its one of the highest grossing female-led films!

Budgets and all that is a whole other topic. Look at last year's Hithki...it didnt even reach 50 crores.

This movie is a Flop, when you take out posters with worldwide Gross collections instead of just posting normal collections like every other movie thread then its quite clear what is happening.

I have been biting my tongue for days but I just can't anymore. The hypocrisy of BOI which absolutely hates Hrithik is killing me, KILLING ME. Kaabil released over the same national holiday but competed with a film starring a little known actor named Shahrukh Khan. It's not just the absolute numbers and verdict that differ but also the incredibly different tones in the daily commentary building up Manikarnika and tearing down Kaabil. Except for Manikarnika distribution price which BOI hasnt published (I think) these number are all from BOI (so no blaming Rakesh Roshan - these are BOI numbers). If they give Manikarnika an average tag at 90 Cr what little respect I have for BOI will be completely gone.

Kaabil
Budget 89 Cr,
Distribution price 49 Cr,
Screens 2550,
Net India collection 86.5 Cr / adjusted net 87.6 Cr,
Verdict Below Average

Manikarnika
Holiday release with essentially no clash
Budget 99 Cr,
Distribution price 65 Cr,
Screens 2900,
Projecting collection 85-90 Cr,
Calling it average, maybe hit

this is hilarious ppl r comparing a film like Manikarnika with Kaabil? 😕 the production costs and distribution costs of both the films are way different...
and like one member said earlier..no trade site REPEAT no trade site has called the film a flop or even called it 'underperforming' the fact that the film is steady and has full chances to cross 100 cr in coming weeks..

there are people who are assuming to be flop from day 1, I don't think its wiser you can go out there and argue with such people. The fact is MANIKARNIKA shall definitely end up as a decent success if not a clear HIT. I am updated with the maximum trade sites like komal nahta, adarsh, koimoi etc all of them r saying the film's holding well and the final verdict can only be out after the lifetime biz, but looking at the current performance it's doing pretty good which wasn't the case earlier with the film surrounding so many controversies and negative buzz.

Manikarnika Second Monday Business
Tuesday 05 February 2019 12.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Manikarnika - The Queen Of Jhansi (Hindi) remained steady on its second Monday with 2 crore nett. The drop is around 30% from Friday and its second week total in four days is a decent 15.75 crore nett. it will comfortably cross 20 crore nett in week two and probably even 21 crore nett.

The final number will be a good one for a female driven film beating all the films barring Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Raazi leaving with Kangana Ranaut with two out of the top three. The only difference is that no other female driven film has gone over 50 crore in terms of costs while this one is way over.

The problem becomes even if you go over in terms of costs the initial is still difficult unless backed by a combination of action and music and for a female driven film this probably has to be thought out cleverly and cant be done in the regular way like for the hero driven actioners. Manikarnika despite the bigger canvas could not push the initial much higher than other female driven films. The collections of Manikarnika - The Queen Of Jhansi till date are as follows

Week One - 56,56,00,000

Friday - 2,75,00,000 apprx

Saturday - 4,75,00,000 apprx

Sunday - 6,25,00,000 apprx

Monday - 2,00,00,000

Second Week- 15,75,00,000 (4 days)

TOTAL - 72,31,00,000 apprx

The collections above are from the Hindi version. The film also had a Tamil and Telugu version which had very limited collections but that is the case for for most Hindi films.

---------------

BOI seems so confused as to how to treat this movie's box office narrative.

She addressed all of that. What are you laughing about exactly? She showed you the budget, distribution cost, screen, figures etc. Juxtapose them side by side, yet the BOI narrative is poles apart. They declared Kaabil flop from day 1, yet sugarcoating everything on this film.

Any box office expert will tell you, a film with a distribution cost of 65 crore needs 130 crores to break even. Unless Zee lied about its distribution cost to hype up the scale of this movie, this narrative doesn't make sense. I don't wanna get into conspiracy theories like many others but there is no consistency at all.

Well looking at the trend of collections i would say its not a flop. If second week was a washout then it would have been. It is average and for a female driven those are good collections.
But like her fans claim, it is no trendsetter or pathbreaker or any other things. It is a botched up movie and a major portion of the collections are because its jhansi lakshmi bhai story. Kangana is a good actress no doubt but she is no crowd puller. Only content pulls crowd to her movies. Infact this is true for most actors actresses. Even khans stopped pulling crowds to faltu movies.

Why are we talking about KAABIL in the first place..and if you'r so concerned with BOI, then u must know that other websites haven't declared the film a failure either, which I have already mentioned. if u think justice's not served with kaabil, you can take directly on BOI on their twitter handle. discussing that film which has nothing to do with this film doesn't make ANY SENSE in the first place...

Kangana is so combative that even trade people avoid saying much so she doesn't go after them.

Simple.
They all want peace of mind and rather than have her attack them,. claim they diss her, or disfavour her,..they all try be 'nice'.

The problem is that the disfavour was alkready done to the movie. Wish Kanagana learned to stop and think before opemning her mouth and accusing evrything and everyone.
Saw Manikarnika and it's not that great, not that bad..a jumble...yes some parts are really good , her acting good for most part, but everything else is sidelined too much, like 'tunnel vision'... very one sided and making me go 'meh'..t I see clearly the botched parts.. and also the parts 'heavily influenced' (read taken) from other movies. The movie COULD have been really grweat, truly awe ionspiring. It isn't, not for me nor for others. Of course, opinions differ.

It's hilarious to even say the movie is doing great.
In this forum there were threads about its budget being 125 cr. ! Not 69 or 99, 125! !how you can claim movie is 'doing good' when it's at 70 cr after 12 days it's beyond me.
SImple rule: to be a hit/ semi hit it needs 125 cr (budget) +50% of budget at least.
SO this would be hit at 175 cr. It's at 70 cr, how do even see it even make it past 100 cr. Very very absurd.. trade doesn't go on gross..but on Nett. (figures posted on poster above me are GROSS WORLDWIDE..which is not hiw BO India works..Show India figures only, thanks)
Kangana might be a good actress but she did the movie and herself disfavours with her actions. No ifs and buts.

The movie is neither doing great nor poor. It is doing just about decent. As per BOI the budget is 99crrs not 125crrs. Komal said it was sold to distributors to 60crrs. And movies hit/flop classifications are based on distributors price not budget. It would have needed 120-125crrs to reach hit status which is out of question now. It will do around 85-90crrs by BOI numbers for average status and 100crrs by Taran (includes other languages as well) for probably semi hit status.
