Regarding the funeral comment, I don't think it was said out of disrespect towards a culture or anything. It was just weird to see the dress code of the guests to be all white. I don't know where did this whole south Indian wedding= white dress discussion come up. I've attended so many South Indian weddings spanning all the states and I've never seen the guests all dressed in white. Max,some men wear white shirt with a veshti but now everyone wears colored clothes. And Deepika herself was wearing red as one of those leaked pictures showed. So it's not about the wedding or the bride or the groom, it was about how the guests looked like.
And this is such a common dialogue used everywhere- 'shaadi mein aaye ho ya shraad mein'. when people tend to wear lighter or white clothes to weddings.
It was weird how this whole thing got converted into a 'anti south Indian culture' thing. If tomorrow in some western country, if people suddenly decide to wear black as part of dress code to an all white wedding, it will look like it's a funeral.
Also what's so inauspicious about something like a funeral which leads to such a beautiful concept like moksha? It was just that it looked weird. Probably that's the family's favorite color but I highly doubt there are any cultural references attached to it. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

People at least let the wedding be over before the pics are released. Even English weddings have that custom hehe

@Bold: Funeral is not is not what which leads to moksha...Its the death! Funeral is the mourning of the death, which is a very unhappy event! Death in itself is a beautiful thing to happen to the person dying but a very unhappy thing for the loved ones nevertheless!

So yes I personally was a bit taken aback by that analogy! It has nothing to with the South Indian culture thingy though...At least not for me!

I don't think the funeral comment was meant to be spiteful. India is a land of many cultures, can't expect people from one part of the country to fully understand what goes on in another culture.

Waise, I am a South-Indian too, and white is just about the last color we are allowed to wear in weddings. Like it is really, really frowned upon. Even widows and elderly women will wear beige or off-white when they attend weddings, but never white (or black). And frankly, South-Indian is as broad a term as North-Indian. Would you compare a Rajasthani with a Punjabi, even though they both belong to the North of India? Their cultures could not be more different. But still, from my knowledge, except for Keralite Nairs, no one else wears white or even off-white for weddings (the women, I mean. The men do wear off-white / white dhoti's).

I think, everyone wore off-white / white for this wedding, cause it looks very stylish and elegant, especially when you are taking group pics, rather than everyone dressed up in rainbow colors. It has nothing to do with the Konkani culture or anything.
