The teaser introduces Erica Fernandes as the new Prerna with the red dupatta flying and the iconic theme song playing in the background. The teaser shot exquisitely gives one a nostalgic vibe and just like everyone else, we are holding our breaths to see how this turns out. The bets are high with Erica stepping into the responsible shoes of Shweta Tiwari, who became a household name with Prerna. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with PINKVILLA, Erica recalled the moment when she was told she has bagged the role, she also spoke unfiltered on the comparisons that are ought to happen and how excited is she about the project.
When I was told that I will be playing Prerna, all I could think of was Shweta ji in her black salwar and red dupatta.. then I thought to myself it would be a different experience playing and portraying a person who cannot be with the one person she wants to be with. The emotions are going to be completely different. It will be a challenging character to play. I was and am really kicked about it.
What was your first reaction when Ekta told you, "Erica, you are my Prerna?
When I was first asked by the media if I was doing Kasautii .. at that point of time I was nowhere in the picture for the show. I was a part of Balaji but for another project and had to do a mock test for the same. Ekta Ma'am saw that... and said those golden words ... "mujhe meri Prerna mil gayi " and that was music to my ears!
How excited, nervous are you about stepping into the shoes of Prerna and more so Shweta Tiwari? Are you worried about the comparisons which are bound to happen?
I am more kicked about this character than nervous. Yes, comparisons are gonna be made, for sure. But I will just say that she was yesterday's Prerna and I'm today's Prerna and both are going to be remembered and never forgotten.
How much of Erica will you put in Prerna?
Erica has always been a part of her characters she has played. So, it is the same in this case. It is also because I want to make the character more realistic and relatable for a girl who has been in that position to see herself in Prerna.
How have you warmed up for the role? What is your process like as an actor?
As soon as I signed the show, the first thing I did was do a run through of the show [original show].
Given that it is being remade, we are bracing ourselves for a few similarities but what will be different this time in Kasautii?
In short .. it is going be the Kasautii of 2018!
This is your first collaboration with Balaji Telefilms. What are your expectations from the show?
Well, like u said it's my first. Hence, I am super excited about it. Just looking forward to starting filming.
From Sonakshi Bose [in Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi] to now Prerna, how do you think you have grown as an actor?
I don't know. I usually get told. Then I do go back and see the difference between my performance from a few months to a year ago and now. I do occasionally keep a tab on my performances after they air... to see where I could do better.
Apart from Prerna, which role would you love to reprise from KZK?
None. Just Prerna (smiles)
Are you nervous if you and the male lead (still being speculated) would be able to create the same chemistry as Cezzane Khan and Shweta?
I do not know about the male lead yet but whoever it is I'm sure, both of us are going to give it our best shot and try and create the same magic, if not better.
Kasautii is a story of two lovers who are never destined to meet. Do you believe in such tragic love stories? What does love mean to you?
These things do happen. It's quite common actually. Just not very known. But we as actors could say this because when fans come up to us and tell us that the same has happened with them and how they could relate to the characters, only then, we know how much of this actually happens in real life too!
