Tbh, I'm not much into punjabi music and It's true punjabi culture and music is over represented in bollywood, but that has more to do with Bollywood's sheer lack of originality more than anything. Just as all the film makers are in a rut currently running after 1 or 2 things that are working such a biopics, music directors are in a same rut, churning out one after another party songs that public will eat up easily. Though I hope this is just a phase and music directors actually start making good music again, instead of this remake business they are so stuck on. and that's why I like music directors like Amit trivedi who are so culturally diverse in their music, Amit trivedi has explored and presented music from cultures all over India. Let's hope the tide changes and we don't get an overdose of punjabi music and remakes henceforth, but a representation of unique music from all around India. I'm so tired of the same old, same old from the music industry currently.

another problem is the all regional movies industry are full of creativity and stories hence they make some awesome cinemas, but bollywood is concentrated only on money making (the sad truth) then creativity and hence picks only the crassness to showcase...

This

They only wanna promote the big fat Punjabi weddings, Bol dia, kar Dia, makke Di roti, butter chicken etc.

India is much, much more than that.

In fact they've barely scratched the surface there.

Even last night in an iifa post on instagram, there were pics of VD, ayushman, Arjun and some more doing bhangra with IIFA caption of some Punjabi stuff.

I mean is Bollywood = Punjab ?Or Hindi films = punjabiness

The big producers and stories are mostly from there. Maybe that's why more prominence is given there.

But I hope it changes soon.

Some of the comments here abt Bengali music in BW is full of ignorance...seems nobody ever heard of S D Burman, R D Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Hemanta Kumar in the earlier times, these Music directors would compose Bengali versions first and then use the same melodies for their Hindi versions which were superhit songs of 60s, 70s, 80s...also Bappi Lahiri in the 80s did the same for his superhit songs.

Bollywood music has been dominated by Bengali composers over the years
Bengali music scene is still going strong, even now in BW, songs composed by Anupam Roy in Piku, Shantanu Moitra in 3 Idiots, PK etc have been hits or superhits 😆
And people forget that Pritam is also a Bengali who rules the music charts even now.😆...though I blame him too for making Mika popular

The language is Bengali...isn't it?

People across the border speak Bengali too...what's with the entitlement? Punjabi is Punjabi whether from India, Pakistan or the UK. So is Bengali.

And maybe Pritam Da should start by concentrating on Bengali music rather than the Mauja Mauja, Aahun Aahun, Kamli & Singh is King he keeps churning out, so our TM friend can be satisfied. Change starts at home after all.

No,have not seen anyone following this Bangladeshi rap in WB , and the WB folk/ rock music scene is vastly different from this.
Folk Rock bands like Chandrabindu, Bhoomi, and the newly formed Anupam Roy band...those are the ones popular in West Bengal, we dont follow Bangladeshi rap. Please dont assume things out of ignorance abt Bengali cultural trends.
But yes, other musical forms like Kazi Nazrul songs, Baul songs by Bangladeshi artists are popular in WB also but not this rap music 😆

Yes, Pritam has composed lots of Punjabi beats songs and hes to be blamed for making Mika popular, but he has also composed many soft melodious tunes which are also superhits

Your replies seem to be all over the place.

a) I posted a Bengali song...you said its Bangladeshi...I said the language is Bengali. If people don't follow it in WB doesn't make it any less Bengali. Btw there's tons of WB rappers on Youtube as well.
b) I said why doesn't Pritam start the trend of Bengali songs in Bollywood that the TM so desperately desires, your answer is he does slow jams too. Yes, like Ajj Din Chadeya & Teri Ore. Where's the Bengali?

The correct answers

a) There's crass 'Rap' in Bengali as well. Don't call another 'culture' crass on the basis of a couple of rappers.
b) Bengali lyrics, music doesn't have an audience. So much so that even the most influential music director in Bollywood, or one of, doesn't use it. Punjabi does.

The TM made an ignorant post, remark and got called out for it. There's nothing anybody can say to justify it. No matter how much ghumaoing, phiroing ya'll want to do around it.😆

We are talking abt Indian films, BW music, where does Bangladesh figure in it? You are zabardasti dragging in Bangladeshi rap just to diss Bengali music scene which has no connection with Bangladeshi rap.

And I see you are completely ignoring my points abt Anupam Roy's melodious songs in Piku, the sitar track was definitely Bengali music inspired...and Shantanu Moitra's compositions in 3 Idiots and PK as well.
There is Bengali influence in many of Pritam songs as well, maybe you dont know because you have no idea abt Bengali musical trends
There is too much Punjabi influence in current BW songs, not all Indians understand Punjabi lyrics, I do understand Punjabi but many of my friends dont so they dont like this overload of Punjabi songs in BW movies... ...that is the main point.
Yo Yo Honey Singh kind of rap is crass, dont know what else to call it because some of the lyrics are disgusting, bhangra numbers or Punjabi sufi songs are Good.

I'm Punjabi and bored and tired of hybrid punjabi culture shown in hindi movies. And nor do I care for Badshah, Yo yo types or even Diljit or Gippy.
