Ranbir Was The Early And Only Choice For Sanju:Rajkumar Hirani

We were smitten by the official trailer of Sanju and needless to say, by Ranbir Kapoor as well who stole the show with his mannerisms and acting prowess in the trailer and in being able to look exactly like how Sanjay Dutt walked and talked. The most awaited biopic which is all set to cover the chronicles of the colorful and the roller-coaster of a life which Dutt has lived till now, Sanju definitely can be the movie of the year. The expectations are sky-high and are rightly so. Rajkumar Hirani, the director of the film, recently revealed why Ranbir was always the first and the original choice for the biopic. Read on...

Ranbir was the early and only choice, says Hirani on casting someone who could portray Dutt from the age of 21-55.

Talking about the similarities between the two actors, he says, "Both are born into film families, and they've lived that life, so they're secure about it. Not many know that Kapoor had confessed about an alcohol problem long back in an interview in 2016.

After seeing the trailer, it is pretty evident that Ranbir clearly understands how to showcase the swagger of Dutt and how to do that droopy and swingy walk of Dutt with moving shoulders. His mimic looks copy-pasted and is convincing. Talking about the same, Hirani says, "But you can't do that in a film. So for him to strike the right balance was tricky. He worked hard on it, and we also decided to declutter and drop many things, saying you don't have to be a 100% like him. Just a semblance is good enough. But somehow his voice changed, and he picked up some mannerisms, two or three, which are typical of Sanju but they don't look like a caricature.

Remembering one of the shots from Sanju, Hirani concludes by saying, "It's a long shot, where he's dressed in a Pathani suit. He comes out of the bathroom and comes walking to the living room. Of course, he was very ready. When he walked out that first time, it was absolutely proper, that walk... Especially in the long shot, it just looked completely like Sanju. And yeah, it was actually pretty smooth.

While Sanju is all set to release on 29 June, we can't stop gushing over the perfect casting!
