Veere Di Wedding is a movie about four friends. That is that. It could be like Friends, where a bunch of friends meet up regularly at a cafe and share their lives. It could be like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara or Dil Chahta Hain and show coming of age and growth graphs. It could be like Hangover or Bridesmaids where the wedding is a backdrop to some raunchy and hilarious escapades plus some life lessons.
But its a movie, about people, their lives, and relationships. Why it should be held under a special lens is something I won't understand.
As for this still, its much ado about nothing. Its a film promo still, but it could be a photo from anyone's vacation. The quality is not perfect. The "looks" aren't perfect. Big whoop! What is there to discuss really? Maybe a film would not use a less than perfect image for promos. But maybe they are going for a less than perfect slice of everyday life look. Maybe they are trying to look hot, or cool, or aloof - still what is the big deal. I don't remember people dissecting the amount of hairy mane or the size of man boobs as much as this one pic of a few women in swimwear.
As for feminism. The film is about four friends and not feminism explicitly. Its de-facto become about feminism because it has exposed societal double standards. In a way, the makers have done this intentionally. They have intentionally gone to show women who swear, drink, smoke, have sex and talk about sex explicitly. They have shown women who are just like many characters we have seen historically in cinema. If you're all of a sudden uncomfortable because its women and not a philandering male hero - then you really need to do some soul searching.
