I don't know that the 53% means much at all without knowing how many women go without any men in their group. If Ponymo had gone with her parents the group would have been 2/3 female.
As far as so called fakes on Grindr, I think they are just gays in denial or bisexuals in denial.

^^Probably bisexuals because the ones I heard about have had intense & passionate relationships with women.

Demographics differs Cinema halls to halls.
Multiplexs and posh single screen(cineplex) have higher percentage of females compared to single screen(although numbers are bigg,er than plexs) but is understandable as SS's environment is not comfortable for most girls.

But yeah I agree, girls rarely go without male partner. Even big gal gang will have one guy, whether an elder guy or a small male kid, ek launda toh leke hi jaati hai.

But I also have seen that, women(not all but most) don't actually prefer women centric movie.
Most either prefer comedy, romance or horror. While thrillers, action, biopics and so on are not actually prefered.
But this is also my observation gather from a very small sample which is from my town in general and my female friends, family members and acquaintance.

Btw you know how to drive?
If you do, you should take your mom or gal friends for movies, when dad does not require it for his work or hangouts.

And if you don't learn it.

Yeah I have a license. But I am not that confident so I don't drive much.

Need some more practice.

I go with my female friends.Sometimes in gangs sometimes with just one friend. Sometimes go with male friends too but not because of security issues. Never really gave it a thought that u have to have male companion with u before . Maybe becus I live in a city, its easier here.

When other women tell me that they don't do things like go to the movies, because of not having family men to accompany them, my jaw drops to the floor and my eye pops out of the socket. The very thought and concept of this are alien to me.
In the sixties and seventies, my grandma and her bestie used to not just watch movies but go out traveling/shopping, by themselves not just in Bombay, but all over India and the world too.

I remember going with my grandma and her best friend to movies in Aurora or Maratha Mandir. My mom joined us for a Rangeela showing once that was at 9:30 PM. This is two elderly women, one middle-aged woman, and a young teen at a late night movie.

In the eighties, my aunt, my dad's sister worked at Holiday Inn. She had an all-female group of work friends who often worked overnight shifts and went to late night shopping/movies often.

As a teenager movie was a big pastime. My dad, grandpa, and most men were not interested in movies. We had excursions of neighborhood aunties and kids (mostly female) to watch movies. Other than that I would go to movies with my school/college friends (mostly female). We would travel all the way from Navi Mumbai to Sterling and Eros to watch English flicks.

The only coed excursion we had was when all kids in the apartment complex went and saw a first day 6:30 PM showing of Biwi No 1.

I saw Dangal in India with my aunt and cousin at Red Lounge.

My aunt in Goa is part of a kitty party group that often has excursions to plays and movies.

Most of my cousins and friends in India still go to movies regularly.

In my narrow field of anecdotal evidence, movie going is a mostly female pastime. Men do go, but not as often and frequent as women. Also, lack of male companions is not a barrier.

But I know its not the same for everyone. When we went to Biwi No. 1, one of my friends lied to their family that there were no boys, two other sisters got permission from their mom but had to lie to their dad, There were a few female friends who could not come to Eros or Sterling because its too far for a woman to travel alone.

Edit to add: Also to add, my experience is urban India. Rural India is a different ball game.
