Once you acquire foreign citizenship of another country you automatically renounce your Indian citizenship. Although to make money the consulates/embassies try to charge you penalty fees of few hundred dollars just for the same certificate which you will need should you apply for an Indian Visa or OCI. There is no exceptions to the rules for Indian citizenship it is clearly written in the gazette.

These people are lying thru their teeth to protect him or completely misinformed - whatever may be the case they are unfit to run this department.

India supports single citizenship. if RTI SAYS he is an indian citizen, then he is, and not Canadian citizen. oci are NOT indian citizens. only NRI are indian citizens.

Akshay himself claimed some sort of Canadian citizenship when asked by reporters. He could have just said he was an Indian citizen and not related to Canada. Instead he lied blatantly that he's an honorary citizen of Canada when there are only 6-7 of those and they're all humanitarians and Nobel Prize winners. So why make up such an absurd lie? Only to cover up that he's a regular Canadian citizen.

The only other possibility is that he gave up his Canadian citizenship and became an Indian citizen instead due to BJP pressure. But I don't think so because if he did that himself, he would have leaked his Indian passport through his PR in some way long before this RTI thing came up.
