Oh and congratulations to Sonam and fiance if true!

I haven't changed my surname after marriage and i couldn't get me head round to why the doctors/teachers etc in U.K would ask me whether i was married whenever i attended something or filled a form related to my kids and i was like - Hello i have children ofcourse i am married 😕😆 now i understand it and i think now they also understand how indian/pakistani culture works 😆

LW: I think her mother definitely keeps that family together, they all cannot stop saying that lol. But I don't think she controls Sonam etc. There were reports that Sonam has bought a few floors of a building or something to shift into but knowing Sonam, she would've preferred the comfort of the family bungalow, lol. Nothing wrong with staying with your parents till when you're comfortable. After marriage anyway, everyone shifts out! Ahuja lives in THE poshest place in Delhi anyway so Sonam will never complain or lack for space. :)

L: I didnt mean actual change, lol, Idk anyone who does that barring a few women. I meant even just responding to it or calling themselves by the husband's surname.

^There is so no such tradition in all families. In my family once you do Warina(IDK what it is called in Hindi) any function can be done. Warina can be done earliest after a month. Also, tbh, kinda petty to curse people like that when the news of their happy moment is here.

OT: Congratulations to the couple. They look really happy together.

but according to hindu traditions if some one dies in family, that year no celebrations and wedding
kaal sutak for one year.

but who cares...in the name of modernity these are considered orthodox. But there are certain reasons behind them.
Body dies, Soul never dies. Just flowing the ashes in river is not conclusion or typing RIP. There is much more to what happens to soul after death and why to skip 1 year. Those who read scriptures in detail know the reasons. The arguments of liberals dont stand here.

after effects are seen later in married life

Too much of gyaan. 👏.
It is not when "some one" dies. It is when the eldest of the family dies. Sri was not eldest in Kapoor family.

In case if father dies, son is not allowed to marry for the year. But this is not the case with daughter. If the daughter in the same year, the good deeds of Kanyaadaan will go the father. Hence people prefer to get the daughter marry in the same year. In no way, Sonam getting married in this year is unritualistic.

Marriage is a nice thing. Union of two lives can only be holy. If you cannot say good wishes, at least stay away.

So can imagine the crores that must have been spent beforehand. I don't think people can exactly write all of that off (unless it's your own parents. Here it's her aunt)
So it's unfair even to expect them to postpone the wedding :(

I agree totally. These days weddings are a huge huge affair. Even ppl from middle class families invest good amount on weddings. And the moment a wedding is cancelled you cannot get full or for that matter even half refunds for the hall/hotel. And this being a Foreign wedding must have been a very very expensive affair. And in our family (Hindu) we believe that a wedding within an year of someone's death is actually good omen. Not all Hindus believe the 1 year mourning, however some families do(though I have personally seen some families cancel weddings due to sudden demises despite heavy financial losses).

I am hindu. I have an engagement to attend on 28th. The guy's grandma died in Dec. That guy is also hindu. Different communities follow different rituals.
