So many people from the film industry have also married their cousins. Raj Kapoor and his wife were cousins. I've heard few others cases too and the biological reasoning given ere isn't true if they are not first cousins. It can't be considered incest.

And Hindus from South India... But they don't marry dad's brother's offspring and mom's sister's offspring but I think Muslims do

It's all very confusing

I know a Hindu upper caste doctor from southern India, he's married to his niece (Elder Sister's daughter), heard it was not uncommon in villages in those days but he's an educated man 😕

His offspring is doing fine though

Liked i mentioned in my previous post in the same topic, marrying Mama (also one's mother's younger brother) is a very common practise in both telugu n tamil cultures. Not all but i've seen such stuff in my maid's families.

^^Ive seen such practices in certain Tam-Bram families, we've a LOT of close family friends from SI since we lived there for years, and it's a known practice amongst some of them.

Not just IRL, SI movies also promote such practices openly. There are so many SI movies were Hero marries Heroine (his first cousin)😆. Also Pak serials (Humsafar,Badi aapi, Maat) were the main protagnist is seen marrying their own Tau ji/Maasi/Bua's kids. Not even second/third or fourth but freaking first cousins.

Your topic reminds me of 2 things though -

1. In Friends when Chandler gets cold feet just before his wedding to Monica, he hides into his office, Ross finds him and asks him what he was doing, he says he was trying to google and find out through google/internet if he and Monica are even remotely related so that he doesn't have to marry her 😆..

2. In HIMYM Barney and Robin spoke pretty much on the same line 😆 ..

That's good Cuz the idea of marrying someone even 0.00000001% related is also creepy as hell to me, not going into genetic complications in the children etc details

^^Your post reminded me of how I watched Friends recently & realised what an arsehole Chandler was! Joey for all his dumbness was a great friend & genuinely sweet & nice (irrespective of his penchant of seeing his women BFFs making out/sexually involved etc)

Tbh, as a gujarati I have never heard of this happening in our community so I assumed this didn't happen anywhere in India either. I'm surprised to know it's a known practice in south India. Interesting! 🤓😲

Same here. 😆

My cousin's friend is Muslim and she came to a function at our place. She was surprised seeing us fighting with other cousins and she was like.. how can you talk to them like this? And we were like.. coz they are brothers.

She said.. we don't talk to our cousins coz we gotta marry them in future. And I remember kinda freaking out at the mere thought.

And long after coming to USA, through a colleague, I got to know, some South Indians Hindus also practice it.

Imagine explaining this to people I actually interact with 😆 😲 😆

You can move to Arkansas if you want to explain to American people as per rumors it seems to be ok there. 😆
