Instlment 2

The saddest thing in the world is losing someone you love and who loved you...

The room was pitch-black similar to the dark moonless night outside, synonymous to his life, dark, hollow and empty...that's how he is since the last ten years, since the day he lost his Avni due to the fire accident. They have come a long way from hating each other to friends to husband-wife to lovers to soulmates, the journey was not easy, numerous problems they tackled together yet it was worthwhile because they had each other side-by-side.

'Every morning I smile Avni, every morning I smile remembering your promise. But how can I spend these nights knowing you aren't here to snuggle closer to me, wrap yourself around me, mutter 'I love you' in my ears.' He complained like a child. 'Kabhi toh aao Avni, sapno mein hi sahi. Sukoon se soye hue dus saal hogaye hai. Main sona chahta hoon tumhare god mein...' And one more night passed like this with him staring at her pictures.

The sky was coloured in bright hues of oranges and reds as the sun rose above the horizon indicating the start of a new day, new beginnings, new hopes for many. Neil glanced up at the wall clock which showed half past seven. He straightened up and entered the bathroom to get ready for the day.

His eyes were puffed and dark circles were clearly visible due to the lack of sleep the previous night, while brushing he looked at his reflection in the mirror. Taking a quick shower withing five minutes, he dressed up in simple denims and black checkered shirt. He had his watch on one wrist and her wedding chain on the other. Locking his room, he swiftly descended the stairs and found his parents and grandmother having their breakfast.

'Tillu aaja, aaj na maine tumhare liye tumhara favourite sandwich banaya hai' His mother chirped.

'I am not hungry, mom. Will have something later.' He replied and left the mansion. Swetha looked at the retreating figure of her son and then at the meal she prepared and then towards her mother-in-law and husband.

'Don't know when will he learn to be happy again. Bohot dukh hota hai Bebe jab main is Neil ko dekhti hoon, jo apna saara dard apne andar hi kaid karke rakhta hai, kisi ko dikhata hi nahi hai.' Swetha weeped at her son's misery.

Raabta, Neil's Radio Station

'Nayi subah itni sayani ho jaye

Aapki dukho ki saari baatein purani ho jaye

De jaye itni khushiyan ye din

Ki khushi bhi aapke muskurahat ki

deewani ho jaye...

Khushamdeed' Neil greeted his audience warmly, taking a sip of black coffee from his mug upon which is letter 'A' engraved artistically in bold red.

'Aaj..aaj hum baat karenge mohabbat ke bare mein. Main aap sabke saath ek kahani share karna chahunga...meri kahani share karna chahunga.

Samundar ke lehron mein mile the hum dono, gussa uski aankhon mein aur khalal meri. Infact, she actually rose her hand to punch me, thinking I was a man of no good intentions.' Neil chuckled, reminiscing their first meeting, well clash would be a better word. Taking another sip of the beverage, he continued,

'We walked into deep pits of the jungle quarreling almost like kinder garden kids, oblivious to what fate had in store for us. I was intrigued with her, her enigmatic kohl-filled eyes and the mysterious aura she created around herself. She had the curious glances of mine, glances of the former A.C.P of Mumbai. We headed back to our places, somehow contacting our near ones, praying fervently to the Almighty to be the first and the last encounter with each other lest we knew this was beginning of our tale, written using the inks of angst, pain, suffering yet with unfathomable passion and sublime love for each other.'

Tuning onto a romantic song, he announced 'This song is for those romantic people who have found their soulmates and for those as well who are in the course of finding.'

Ajeeb daastaan hai yeh

Kahan shuru kaha khatam

Yeh manzile hain kaunsi

Na wo samajh sake na hum...

'hume bhi kaha pata tha Avni humari daastaan aisi hogi.' Neil thought, letting the lyrics overpower his feelings.

And, it's a wrap for the second chapter. Apologies for the delay and short chapter too, had a throbbing headache since yesterday and severe eye pain too. I was completely restricted from touching my laptop, leave along typing anything. Taking a painkiller and eye drops, I typed whatever I could.
