Yes...the so called Rajput 'aan baan and shaan' nonsense is all true...and which is what has made the invaders take advantage of those stupid fools and reduce them into ashes...

My grandfather used to tell us a story about how these invaders found out the Hindu sentiment about cows and used herds of them as sheilds and walked straight in...And these stupid fools used to just stand there totally transfixed not knowing what to do, since they cannot kill the cows and get to these men! 😕

Take Prithviraj Chauhan for instance, the guy had a chance to protect his land by killing Gajni at least twice, but no! Instead he chose to die a gruesome dishonorable death at the end while also surrendering his kingdom in the most stupidest way possible!

On the other hand, the Rajput kings were extremely stupid to have adhered to their Rajput principles in face of such enemies. No wonder they kept losing.

@red : yea, thats what i meant, Fairest of the muslim leaders...but if even his soldiers attempted raping the dead bodies, then i can only imagine how worse Khilji's soldiers must be.

Indian kings were too principled following rules from centuries ago, thinking that the whole world follows the same principles.

I think the Maratha's were the only ones to successfully hold fort during those times. Shivaji started it and the Peshwas continued it very gloriously. It's said that Aurangzeb died a bitter, unsatisfied death as he could never catch hold of Shivaji and despite keeping his son, Sambhaji captive could never convert him and take the Maratha empire.
The Maratha empire fell only with the advent of the British.

Very true.

The Maratha ulcer as they call it was in part responsible for the destruction of the Mughal empire. Unlike in the case of Rajputs, the Maratha's pride and valour is atleast justified.

Bajirao - 1 (of Bajirao Mastani fame) never lost a battle in his life. He was renowned as the fighting Peshwa and was the first Maratha to sack Delhi.

Totally. The Rajputs were extremely brave, strong, and capable. It's a pity that so many of them perished despite of all these qualities only because of the extreme stupidity that prevailed in almost all of them.

The Chittor fort was taken by invaders three times. I wonder how it was possible for as common sense dictates, we ought to learn from others mistakes. Did they not learn from their ancestors mistakes? Did they not change the construction of the fort that allowed armies after armies to so easily take them.

P. S no offence to any Rajputs. I have nothing but respect for this community. Just that the glaring stupidity of some of the kings is too hard to ignore.

I think Rajputs were Stupid n lost most wars. It is not enough to fight without strategy or brains. Plus, they kept fighting with each other too n had no Unity. Which is why, they got beaten by Mughals, Marathas, Sikhs n British. But, they have the habit of glorifying their defeats n suicides.

And how conveniently, people focus on Khilji harem but ignored Bajirao n Ratan Singh multiple marriages. Even Bajirao had a harem of dance girls where Mastani was made to stay. So, all this aan baan shaan is just humbug.

LOL so Sonam retweeted Swara's piece on Padmavati being regressive. But what about Ranjhanaa sis? It glorified toxic masculinity right towards the end.

In fact there's a famous phrase that was used when the Maratha empire was at its zenith. 'Attock to Cuttock'. It described the span of the Maratha empire and mind you, attock is in present day Pakistan and cuttuck in Orissa. Parts of Lahore, Peshawar, and even Kashmir were taken by the Marathas from the nMughals. What they had achieved was an almost impossible feat given how they started during Shivaji.

that's true... Shivaji's Father was a general with the Nizam, but Shivaji's Mother Jijamata wanted a Marathi kingdom as the Nizam were brutal on the Maratha citizen, so from childhood Shivaji was trained towards seeking a maratha kingdom. LAter he used Guerilla Warfare and built his own empire.

But Peshwa's were the ministers of Maratha Kings, but later became the rulers. Though they were brahmins originally, the later ones became good strategist and leading warriors.

Nanasaheb Peshwa extended his empire till North-West, East and Central India, even till Peshawar.
