New Delhi (CNN)A prominent Indian journalist and activist has been shot dead in the southern state of Karnataka.

The body of Gauri Lankesh, 55, was found lying in a pool of blood on the porch at her home in Bangalore on Tuesday night.
A staunch critic of Hindu nationalist politics, last year Lankesh was convicted of defamation and sentenced to six months in prison for a story on a local leader of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
At the time of her death, Lankesh was on bail appealing the verdict.
Bangalore Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar told reporters that four empty cartridges had been recovered from the scene of the crime.
Lankesh had been shot from close range with three bullets hitting her on the neck and chest.

Ranjitha - Our PM is just that a Charmer. Pretty face 😛 Somehow the world loves him😕
G you are going to have time of your life if you don't learn how to deal with your daughter. 😆 I find when you ask them to take decisions its better for the head strong kids.

Sush - I am with you on parenting. I think being a mother is one of the best achievement for any woman. Like all other relations this too test our patience. Its challenging, frustrating, fulfilling, out of the world experience.

Any one read about this article from Time? 😲

Should they not be banning the bottled water and open up RO system everywhere? Can this study be done by the water purifier companies?

IPK - How was the epi today?

Sush,
I loved what you wrote about parenting and nope, it was not judgmental at all. My mom always tells me that, contrary to what everybody had told her, on the day I was born, she was so tired that she had least interest to caress, cry or feel happy that I was finally out 😆 It really took her a day or two to understand the feeling of holding your kid in your arms. So not everybody can be 'trained' to react the same way in every situation.

Mine was an arranged marriage and the first 6 months I was so detached from my husband that him falling sick would evoke no emotion like Chandini did yesterday 😆 But now, after 4 odd years, farak padta hain dammit

So I think I can never 100% prepare myself for this. It will be a gradual change. I may or may not be an emotional mom, but for sure will be a controlling one 😲

About Gouri Lankesh
I have spent 90% of my life in Karnataka so 'Lankesh Patrike' was part of my growing up years. After Gouri Lankesh's dad expired, the same publication was divided into two new ones, each owned by Gauri and her brother Indrajit Lankesh.

Are we allowed to talk about religion? If not, let me know, I will prompt edited it out. Gouri's articles were mostly against Hindutwa and she was quite vocal about it. For the longest time she also worked against Naxals and in the recent years she had worked towards their reformation. She, Kalburgi and few others had major say about anything BJP promoted. Beef Ban was the last one she spoke strongly against.

It might not be right to judge the deceased, just to respect the death if not anything else, but in most cases activists always take blind sides and while supporting one, they end up ridiculing the other so much that end up building a kingdom of enemies against them.

She was being stalked for the last two weeks and the first attempt was probably made on Sep 2nd and finally they got her down yesterday. According to media, this is done by the same set of people who had shot down Kalburgi 2 years back (remember the award wapsi ghotala? )

May be we will never know the truth, but the way Media respects death based on the person who died and also use it to create sensationalism is shameful.

Did you guys read this?

We had been to Oregon about 3 months back and a good lot of tourist attractions we had visited has burnt into ashes.😭 There is a rumor that the fire was started from a cracker burnt by a teenager!

Ranjitha the wild fires in BC, Canada has gone wild and has grown leaps and bounds in area. With no rain and hot summer its just getting worst. We have fires in Montana as well. Basically both fire from west and south is destroying the parks and localities around like anything. Today they gave voluntary evacuation notice to people in Waterton Park. Basically most of the national parks in Rockies have been affected this summer by this fire . Worst half of the fires started due to human error or intention, 😒

I think it is one of the worst years as far as fire in mountain goes.

Totally agree! The sunsets here look blood red and they only show how bad the air quality is this summer. Even in Colorado there were signs of wild fire but luckily nothing major happened her, but the smoke of the Montana fire reach CO and leaves me wondering if we can feel it, what situation will the Montana people be in 😭

What natures does to us, though not directly in our control is certainly a repercussion of how we treat Mother Earth. But what humans purposefully do to earth is sheer ignorance. When will people understand the value of nature? That's why I always go back to the argument of why it is important for our Government to support Nature Conservation.

Of course...it's ok to write about religion, Ranjitha...topics are never a problem...extreme views and not accepting other views is...😃

I hear you on some journalists being too one sided...that happens...and I sense a lot of frustration when regular people are caught on the other side are labeled...but it is worrisome that India is becoming more intolerant to dissent...Even if the dissent is extreme and perhaps not justified...a democracy can not survive if dissent is silenced...it leads to tyranny ...While India is not there ...the trend is very alarming...I think we have the same problem developing in the US with Trumps assault on the press and labeling them as the monsters...Any way...I was in India during summer and felt a lot of ill feelings towards Arundhati Roy...along the same lines...

BHavi...thanks for sharing the article...I am really surprised at the findings...How are these plastic particles filtering through?

About motherhood Ranjitha...we talk about conflicting emotions in the shows...but I feel even real life is filled with a range of emotions about the same...can't say ...I have never felt not ready, overwhelmed...and some times just questioned myself...why on earth am I doing all this for someone who doesn't really appreciate anything...but then you sit back ...and there are moments when you feel so grateful to have created this wonderful life...this person who is like you and not like you...who takes you through life with a different set of eyes...and you feel so vulnerable at times...you feel so small...and then there are moments when you just share something really silly or really important and that makes it all worth it!!

Gosh...I have almost gone on a rant...not sure what has gotten into me...will stop now.
