Oh you didn't know that lol. That's a very common misconception in Pakistan. I found out when once I was watching the show istikhara, in which ppl called in and some hidden molvi would do istikhara for the caller on the spot lolz.

Also I heard from some elders also like we did istikhara but acha nahi aya, like seriously , how did you know. Did God send you an email or what.

It's such an easy thing to do, anyone can do it, you don't need a very religious person to do it for you.
All you need to do is pray two rakah and supplicate the dua of istikhara, that's it.

^ you get hints, signs but the most important is your inner feeling.. If your gut feeling says yes, go with it, if it says no refrain from it and it'll disappear in some time.. Isrikhara is super easy and always works, don't need no body for it.. Do it for yourself and be patient.. It often takes a lot of time for the decision to be clear..
