Not to sound sexist, but India's tiny President just does not fit the image standing there, saluting the armed forces as they march past her. There is something missing, and not right with that image. I am not saying this to start a battle of the sexes. It is just an observation.

I agree with you, especially after watching Abdul Kalam for the past few years. But can't pick on just Prez Pratibha Patil. There was Shankar Dayal Sharma also who didn't fit the image, he could barely walk.

Unfortunately we did not get to see the parades when Shankar Dayal Sharma was President since there were no Indian news channels like HT, Samay etc., available in the U.S. All we saw was a fleeting glance on Namaste America which is an hour long show on Saturdays that tries to pack everthing they can in that time frame. How old was President Sharma?

Thanks. He was a very learned man, but howcome India elects people at such advanced age to become President. I know there is a minimum age requirement. There should also be a maximum age requirement.

@Bunbutt_too: Don't know yaar. Afterall the Presidential elections are in the hands of the political parties and they choose whoever they deem fit. Problem is they're not always physically fit. I'm also of the opinion that there should be a maximum age limit for Presidents, say 70yrs. After which most people do not remain that much fit physically. Afterall, a President is the head of all the three divisions of the army, so there should be some standards.
