I just finished watching Goblin...It's a really good show and got me back into watching K-dramas after a long break. 90% of the K-dramas bore the hell outta me in the recent years with their annoying cliche plots and stock characters with recycled faces but Goblin was a bit different and had legit great acting. Gong Yoo is such an immense talent, one of Korea's finest actor IMO.
About the show, I was and am obsessed with Goblin and Grim Reaper, Dongwook was so adorable as Grim Reaper. They should have been the main pair instead of the useless romance tracks, they had off-the-charts chemistry and not even in the homophobic ~bromance~ nonsense that drama stans speak of but actual, sensual, flawless romantic chemistry that's rarely seen in K-dramas. They really need to get with the times and at least hint at the obvious homoerotic undertones of their dynamics instead of forced heterosexual relationships. I didn't especially like the Goblin/Bride or Reaper/Sunny tracks, neither of them grabbed me. Hetero dramas and dynamics have been done in so many ways that they really need to exceedingly special for me to pay attention these days. The shining feature of the show was the gorgeous acting, the cinematography and the Goblin/Grim Reaper relationship, making it such a unique drama where male friendship and underlying dynamics simply overshadow the background romantic tracks. The show falls short of a masterpiece in forcing the hetero romances that should have only been there as background fillers. But all in all, a solid show that stands out among the rest of the forced romantic junk in recent K-dramas. Would really look forward to Gong Yoo and Dongwook working together in future, that kinda chemistry should be explored more.
