Part 8-
Next morning, Arjun was asleep. Everything was normal as usual. Vandana was cleaning the mess that Ayaan had created and Ayaan was busy with his phone in his room.
Vandana- Yeh aaj kal ke bacche! Ayaan, kitni baar kaha hain apne kapde sambhalke rakha karo par meri koi kyu sunega? Main toh naukraani hoon na. Aur tera woh bhai Arjun, abhi tak so raha hain. Uska bas chale toh sote sote hi apni zindagi bita de woh.
Ayaan- Kya Maa, subah subah kyu aandolan kar rahi ho?
Vandana was about to say something when the door bell rang.
Vandana- Bach gaya tu! Door bell nahi baji hoti toh belan se maarti tujhe.
Vandana then opened the door and what she saw, made her shiver. There was Maya at the door. After whatever had happened, Vandana didn't expect Maya there. Not even in her dreams.
Vandana- Ma...Maya, tu...tum yaha?
Maya- Kya hua, Aunty? Aapko accha nahi laga mera yaha aana?
Vandana- Nahi nahi, aisi koi baat nahi hain. Aao na!
Maya stepped inside the house and Vandana asked her to sit. Maya handed over an invitation card to her.
Vandana- Yeh kya hain?
Maya- Meri shaadi ka invitation card. Kal meri shaadi hain. Sab employees ki familes aa rahi hain. Aap sab bhi aayenge toh mujhe bohot accha lagega. Aur please Arjun ko bhi lekar aayiyega. Accha, abb main chalti hoon. Namastey!
Maya was about to leave when Vandana spoke from behind.
Vandana- Kyu kar rahi ho tum yeh sab, Maya? Kyu tod rahi ho Arjun ka dil? Mat karo yeh shaadi. Toot jaayega mera beta.
Maya turned around. She was surprised initially. Then, all of a sudden she burst out laughing.
Maya- Yeh aap keh rahi hain, Aunty? Seriously? Main koi sapna toh nahi dekh rahi? I mean jab main aapki hone waali bahu thi tab aapne kabhi mujhe acche se hello tak nahi kaha. Aur abb jab mera aap sab ke saath koi rishta nahi hain toh aap mujhse keh rahi hain ki main Aarav se shaadi na karu? Kamaal karti hain aap, Aunty!
Vandana was embarrassed. She knew she had never even tried to talk to Maya or understand her. She always wanted Saanjh as her daughter in law.
Vandana- Dekho Maya, main jaanti hoon ki pehle hum dono ki itni acchi nahi banti thi. Lekin uska sirf ek hi kaaran tha aur woh yeh tha ki mujhe lagta tha Arjun tumhare saath khush nahi hain. Isiliye main nahi chahti thi ki tum dono ki shaadi ho par abb sab badal chuka hain. Abb haalaat alag hain. Abb Arjun tumhare bina khush nahi reh paayega! Khush rehna toh dur ki baat, jee hi nahi paayega woh tumhare bina. Maine dekha hain Arjun ki aankhon mein woh pyaar. Woh tumse bohot pyaar karta hain. Mere liye Arjun ki khushi hi sab kuch hain. Mujhe hamesha lagta tha ki Saanjh hi woh ladki hain jo Arjun ko hamesha khush rakh sakti hain par main galat thi. Maya ke bina Arjun adhoora hain.
Arjun was standing near the door of his room and quietly watching all this with folded arms. Vandana's words brought a smile to his face. Just then Ayaan came out of his room.
Ayaan- Maa, kaun aaya hain?
Ayaan then saw Maya.
Ayaan- Arrey bhaabi, aap kab aayi?
Arjun was sure Maya would get angry now but she just gave a warm smile to Ayaan.
Maya- Ayaan, main jaanti hoon tumhe aadat hain mujhe bhaabi bulaane ki par yeh ek buri aadat hain aur buri aadaton ko jitni jaldi bhool jao, utna hi sehat ke liye accha hain. Abb main tumhari bhaabi nahi hoon.
Ayaan- I'm so sorry, bhaabi. I mean Maya. Nahi, Maya ma'am! I'm really sorry, ma'am.
Maya smiled again and cupped his face with one hand.
Maya- Toh abb mera chota sa Ayaan mujhe ma'am bulaayega?
Out of all the family members of Arjun and Saanjh altogether, it was only Ayaan who liked Maya and wanted her to be his sister in law. Maya, on the other hand, also loved Ayaan like her own little brother.
Ayaan- Kya karu phir? Aapko aapke naam se toh main nahi bula sakta. Didi bulaana theek nahi hoga aur bhaabi bulaana abb shaayad mere naseeb mein nahi hain. Mere uss gadhe bhai ne sab bigaad jo diya.
Maya laughed out loud.
Maya- Mera chota sa Ayaan itna bada ho gaya ki apne bhai ko gadha keh raha hain? Main jaanti hoon tum mujhse as a devar and as a brother bohot pyaar karte ho aur chahte ho ki main tumhari bhaabi banu par sabki apni apni kismat hoti hain, Ayaan. Meri kismat mein tumhari bhaabi banna likha hi nahi hain. Koi baat nahi, main nahi toh koi aur sahi. Aur waise bhi, ladkiyo ki kami thodi hain tumhare bhai ko! Hain na, Arjun?
All of a sudden, Maya looked at Arjun. Following her, Vandana and Ayaan also did the same. All of them wondered how Maya could sense Arjun's presence even without looking at him.
Arjun- Maya, tumhe kaise pata chala ki main yaha hoon?
Maya- Chaar saal saath rahe hain hum. Tumhari khushboo tak ko pehchaanti hoon main, Arjun.
Arjun slowly came close to Maya.
Arjun- Mujhse itna pyaar karte hue bhi tum kisi aur se shaadi kar rahi ho?
Maya- Correction! Pyaar karti thi. Abb nahi karti.
Arjun- Agar chaar saal saath rehne ke baad tum meri khushboo tak pehchaanti ho, toh chaar saal saath rehkar main bhi tumhe itna toh jaan hi gaya hoon ki tum kab sach bolti ho aur kab jhooth. Aur iss waqt tumhari aankhein saaf keh rahi hain ki tum jhooth bol rahi ho.
Maya avoided eye contact with Arjun.
Maya- What nonsense! Main koi pyaar vyaar nahi karti tumse.
Arjun- Accha? Toh yahi baat zara meri aankhon mein dekh kar kaho.
Maya did not respond. She stood there like a statue with wet and moistured eyes. She wanted to cry but couldn't. Arjun came closer to her. Now there lips were just inches apart. Vandana signalled Ayaan to leave from there. Both Ayaan and Vandana left ArYa alone and went to another room.
Arjun- Kya hua, Maya? Bolo na! Nahi bol paaogi na? I knew it. Kaise bol paaogi? Kyuki tum aaj bhi mujhse utna hi pyaar karti ho jitna pehle karti thi. Fark bas itna hain ki pehle mujhe yeh ehsaas nahi hua tha ki main bhi tumse pyaar karta hoon aur aaj main tumhare pyaar mein khud marr bhi sakta hoon, aur kisi aur ko maar bhi sakta hoon.
Maya was having a very tough time controlling her tears. She didn't want to cry in front of Arjun so she immediately ran away from there without responding to his words. Arjun understood her situation. He preferred to let her go and spend some time alone. He then went directly to Ayaan's room where both Vandana and Ayaan were present.
Ayaan- Bhaa...I mean Maya ma'am! Kyu aayi thi woh yaha?
Vandana handed over the invitation card to Arjun.
Vandana- Ye dene!
Arjun looked at her confused.
Arjun- Yeh kya hain?
Vandana- Khud dekh lo!
Arjun opened the invitation card and immediately tore it into pieces. Vandana and Ayaan looked at each other shocked and then back at Arjun.
Vandana- Tumne invitation card kyu phaadi, Arjun?
Arjun- Kyuki yeh shaadi waise bhi nahi hogi. Maa, main Maya ko aapki bahu banakar rahoonga. Aur Ayaan, tujhe Maya ko ma'am bulaane ki koi zaroorat nahi hain. Woh aaj bhi teri bhaabi hain aur hamesha rahegi. Use toh main Mrs. Maya Arjun Sharma banakar rahoonga. Aur main bhi dekhta hoon kaun maaikalaal rokta hain mujhe usse shaadi karne se!
Ayaan- Par bhai aap yeh karoge kaise?
Arjun- Woh sab mujhe nahi pata par yeh shaadi toh main kisi bhi keemat pe nahi hone doonga.
Vandana and Ayaan both were happy and relieved. Vandana had finally understood that only Maya could keep Arjun happy and Ayaan was always fond of Maya. He always wanted her as his sister in law. It was the happiest moment for him. Time somehow passed with Saanjh and Arjun making plans for the big day on the terrace. They had decided what they had to do and how they had to do to stop the marriage. It was now about 11 at night.
Arjun- Accha Dusky, tu abhi jaake so jaa. Main zara aata hoon.
Saanjh- Tu itni raat ko kaha jaa raha hain?
Arjun- Maya se milne!
Saanjh- Hey bhagwaan, kya karu main iss ladke ka! Subah aayi thi na woh milne tujhse?
Arjun- Haa par abhi toh kitne ghante ho gaye usse mile huwe!
Saanjh- Jaa beta, jaa! Lekin sun, raat ko akele paakar maa mat bana dena usko. Shaadi nahi hui abhi tum dono ki.
Arjun blushed hard.
Arjun- Paagal, kuch bhi bolti hain tu!
Saanjh- Arrey waah, dekh tu kya sharma raha hain! Mr. Arjun Sharma sharma rahe hain. Yeh toh kal sabko bataana padega.
Arjun- Saanjh ki bacchi, tu ruk!
Saanjh- Duffer, jaa jaldi. Mil kar aa usse.
Arjun nodded and headed towards Maya's place. Saanjh was happy for Arjun but somewhere deep down, she was hurt, very hurt.
