And O No! The devil Khalil is back!!😲 What will happen now!!

Khalil had already returned... remember the scene between Khalil-Shehzaade? About the cloth bags? Khalil instigating the prince, where the prince ends up giving Ustaad 2 days... 😉 He's there for past 2-3 days... but AMK came to know of it only now..
It's obviously taken Ustaad's spy in the capital a day or two to come all the way here to report this news to AMK that Khalil has returned...

O yeah! How can I forget! That was one of my favourite sequence with our cool Shahzade!😎 The shock of AMK had got on me I suppose. 😆 But, aab ayega maza! 😉

Another Excellent chapter...👏 that has further emphasized the inner qualties of each of the characters of the story.
Heera:
This chapter belongs to her. A lady who defines grace, elegance, kindness and charm also has the resolve of steel when the need arises. This is what makes Heera so endearing. Not that she doesn't feel fear, not that she doesn't feel pain, she does both aplenty. But she faces them with spirit and still stands tall. She may not be a warrior princess adept at wielding weapons. But who said bravery is all about attacking and delivering heroic speeches? Heera's heroism is her refusal to buckle under pressure and standing up to face adversities with courage. (Just contract her with Nandini who gave high sounding statements of her warriorship and crumbled to ashes when faced with crisis)

And she tries everything possible to proceed ruffling as minimum feathers possible. Again not because she is afraid to, but that it is wise to. This was evident in the scene when Gauri and Bindiya were accused of theft. She could have given the accusers a dressing down and would have had things taken a different route. But AMK was fair enough and she simply let the flow take its course. Here too had Mahender agreed to back out, she wouldn't have cared to expose him. But faced with no choice she decides to close down on him and how! She brings to light his intentions by putting forth her case as convincingly as possible. Even the Raja and Rani of Manswar could not refute her argument that Mahendar's eagerness to wed Durga and Heera had other intentions. He DID defy them on both occasions . They could only save their faces by declaring her arrogant and walking out of the Sabha. ( But Lashy, i wanted to read all the 10 arguments with which Mahender tried to present his case and that Heera deflected. Did you edit them out???)

Mahender:
As i suspected the evil slimy swine DID accuse her of an affair. But that was after he made an attempt to spread rumors of his own affair with her. Clandestine meetings indeed! But then why didn't he emphasize that their meetings were romantic indeed and Heera is refusing to admit it for some strange reason. And have a ( read his ) witness testify that they were very close.

And finally when he knew that he had lost, he gave a blow beneath the belt. Destroy her, if she cannot be of use to him. Malign her character, try to ostracize her and make the refusal to the match appear to HIS, as her conduct was questionable. Mahendar is like a disease causing germ, that causes damage even as it leaves.

I felt that a scene on his/ his men's evesdropping on casual maid gossip and Mahender's evil ideas to use it as a last ditch attempt to get back at her, could have given better clarity. And her tear confirming the possibility his unexpected bonus.

AMK:
Has awoken to the purposes of the second chance that life has given him. Still savouring her final gift and her memories. Trying to cure even if his duty doesn't allow him to prevent. But his trying to strike a deal with Shehzade is a tall order. Now that reasons are going to be attatched to his softening up towards Parnagarh. Yet, how will HIS resources alone suffice to help ALL the people of the valley?

AMK's Boys:
They are the kind that exemplify loyalty and team spirit. 👏

Lashy!
What a striking similarity!

Durga ..then..
...

What followed thenceforth was the greatest display of bravado, from a woman, that the intruders had ever seen. Cautiously backing herself against a narrow corner, so only one man would be able to attack her at a time, she faced the advancing murderers with the might of her will and the agility of her hand. It was thus that she brought an early death upon three men and maimed two more, showing the brutes how far they'd undermined her courage.

However; as was the course of most battles, Durga sustained many an injury herself. Her limbs couldn't match the immortality of her spirit, her strength steadily diminished with every blinking moment.

Yet, Durga bai didn't cower in fright.

Not even when the leader of the pack, the beastly 'Khalil', paced onward and forced her to look him in the eye. Not when his size dwarfed her profile. Or his roars deafened her ears. Not even when she knew her end was near.

Durga bai fought to the very end - till a time came when she lost all her weapons and vigour, fighting him. Till she was left with no choice and no defences thereafter

'Hand me the Farmaan...' he growled

'I will NOT give you the Farmaan, even if you take my life!' the breathless warrior challenged him as she lay bleeding on the floor, the faces of her loved ones flashing before her eyes

'What if I take your dignity and modesty instead?'

And from the amount of venom in his scowl, she knew those were not empty threats. So, after many bouts of tortuous self-debate, she made the choice most women would make - she decided to give up the Farmaan.

But that did not seem to satisfy her enemy. He wanted more!

And the very thought of what he wanted - the very notion of what horrors lay ahead, debilitated her morale. Now too weak and too wounded to protect herself, she wished she had a blade to end her life just then. But since she didn't, Durga bai, the once proud heiress, was forced to relinquish her ego and beg. She begged and pleaded - not for her life, but for her modesty to be spared.

All in vain. His scowl didn't thaw one bit. He had a reputation for being a 'savage' and he apparently wanted to live up to it -

For, he took away the Farmaan,

Then, took away her modesty,

And finally, took away her life too...

* * * * * * *

Heera now...

You claim you're sabotaging this wedding for Parnagarh, but I wonder if there's another reason too...' he paused 'maybe someone else?'

'Nothing of that sort!'

Tch...' he tapped his forehead 'I should have realised this when you reminded me of Durga's second promise... which states that you should be allowed to wed a man of YOUR choice...'

'What do you mean?' Heera frowned, alarm bells going off in her mind

'I mean... an unmarried Rajput lady, who defies society... defies authority... and even her family... generally does it for only one reason - her man!'

A sly grin returned to his face, as he saw the smile being wiped out of her lips.

'Aidabad?' he whispered - low enough to leave an impact, but loud enough to be heard by her Godparents.

Her face stayed cold and plain, as she made a conscious effort not to flinch. Not to gasp. Not even to blink. Pity though, Heera was not as good an actress as him 'Aidabad? What about it?'

'You were there for two weeks... which is long enough...'

'Yes... so?'

'You stayed at a Mughal businessman's house' he candidly observed her features for signs of a reaction, like a hawk would observe its prey 'Didn't you?'

'And your point is?' Heera retorted, drumming a reminder into every inch of her body that she mustn't giveaway anything.

'I heard that the two of you spent time in each other's company...'

'Kunwarsa...' Chitranjan grit his teeth 'put an end to this disgusting topic... I will not stand back and watch this any longer... our Heera bitiya is purer than gold... so, stop throwing around these baseless accusations...'

'You didn't stop her when she had things to say about me... so, let me speak, Maharaj!' With a sneer, he turned back to the young lady 'Since, you were opposed to this wedding, I was curious to find out if there was some secret you were hiding... my spies informed me about this Mughal man, but I never gave it much thought - even when I heard that you both met and talked a few times... after all, he IS a Mughal... and traditionally, we Rajputs know to keep away from Mughals... we despise them...' he'd stressed on the word despise 'but now that I think back... it adds up!'

'A few formal discussions... that's all...' Heera hissed, desperately wishing there was something else she could do to shut him up right then and there. How dare he do this? How dare he ransack her secrets - personal secrets that she'd kept locked deep within? How dare he pry open her most intimate wounds in public, leaving her exposed? 'It was routine business... what else could it possibly be?'

'Really? You were discussing business?' Mahendar smirked. He thought he'd seen traces of pain in her eyes but he couldn't be sure. At least, not yet. 'What business could you have with an eminent horse trader? I forget what he's called...'

'Akbar Mahmoud Khan Sahib!'

The agony that'd just forced itself up, left a trail of burn as she pushed it back down.

Heera glared at her challenger, her unbroken stare awash with a fresh pang of hatred. Yes, she was aware that he was toying with her. That he was going for the kill. But there was only so much she could do to keep it together. Helplessness. Desperation. Anguish. Exhaustion. Loneliness. Self-pity. A broken heart. There was only so much of it she could take 'It was just business...' she lied again, striving her level best to make her lie sound as convincing as possible - but not before her left eye had involuntarily misted up 'nothing more...'

There! He'd seen it, at long last. In her eyes. He'd found what he was searching for - 'a lover's pain'. He was sure now.

'It IS him, isn't it?' Mahendar gasped, almost surprised that his suspicions had turned true 'Ma Bhavani... save us... not only are the Mughals taking our lands... they're taking our women too!'

He took a conscious step back, suddenly repulsed by the very notion of a marriage with her, as if this baisa had turned into an untouchable. No amount of power and fame was worth pursuing a woman who was worse than used goods. That too, used by a Mughal.

'Maasa... Bapusa... and all this while she's been maligning MY character...'

'Shameful indeed, my Kunwar...'

'This is not true' A hot tear burst its bank when she found herself at the receiving end of several disgusted sighs from onlookers. Another tear came gushing down when she noticed the mortified expressions on the faces of kakisa kakasa 'He is twisting the story, like always!'

'Imagine the scandal when the rest of our community come to know of this... I wonder how many Rajput kingdoms will come to Parnagarh's help then...'

'You are accusing me without proof, Kunwarsa...'

'You forget...' he murmured 'scandal doesn't need proof... a few willing ears will do!'

Having dealt the final blow, Mahendar walked out on her, quite pleased with how well his gamble had paid off. He might have lost a few rounds, maybe even the battle - but he hadn't bowed out like an utter failure. He'd rendered his enemy disarmed, vulnerable and wounded...

Sandy Begum... I'm going to do a quick response... before getting back in detail

1) I didn't do all the 10 back and forth queries and answers per se.. it was more a figurative way of saying, he'd been doing so much to wiggle out of this situation, only for her to trap him with another net!

As it is, there've been 3 back-to-back scenes with Heera and Mahendar (I'd say 4 as this one is as long as two whole scenes) any longer and I thought it might begin to read like a drag!

Worse thing is because of the 'time factor' - i.e. all happening within the span of 1.5 days, I cannot really fill in with any other scenes either...

Which is why, I did most of it in real time, except for this part... some of it had to be sped up! But if you notice from Chapter 21 till now... she must have refuted him at least 10 different ways

2) As for why 'how' Mahendar got the information hasn't been outlined, it's because outlining the scene you said - spies spying on maids would've taken away from the effect you'd get the moment he said
'Aidabad' in front of the whole Sabha...
In retrospect, as you read the upcoming chapters you'll understand what he found out... 😳
So, I'll ask for you to wait till part 24 and then pronounce your verdict on this one...

But again, in a mystery novel like this 🤔... some of it can be mentioned clearly.. but, some of it has to only be implied... and some of it, I will have to leave to readers' imagination... or spelling out everything will again take away from the 'thrill', no? 🤔 I'm sorry if you're still not convinced after 24, and still feel it lacked clarity... I'll bear this in mind.

I have written a detailed explanation on page 49 about this too, dear... give a read through it...

3) But then why didn't he emphasize that their meetings were romantic indeed and Heera is refusing to admit it for some strange reason. And have a ( read his ) witness testify that they were very close
Bajrang Daya (her maids too) were there na, when he dismissed all of HIS people and HERS... in fact, Bajrang & Daya left the last... the room was empty and they know everyone else had left... they were outside in the corridors guarding.
So, him saying a witness saw them is an argument she could have easily overthrown by bringing her guards to testify that there was no witness!
As for Mahendar not trying to shout back saying 'Yes, it was romantic' he is trying to come out looking 'less tainted' than her... if he went on and on about how it WAS romantic in front of his parents/nobles... he'd end up looking not-too-nice.. so he wisely kept quiet about it once he realised he'd lost that round..

Basically, Mahendar must not have been prepared or assumed that Heera would put up such a fight... he was literally flabbergasted!

4) How will HIS resources alone suffice to help ALL the people of the valley?

There are what 400 families? Heera herself would own enough wealth(like her family have been so long) to cater to all of them for some days without income... but Akbar comes with a kind of resource that no one has - excellent manpower...

He has the kind of men that are strong and intelligent.. that have a knack for moving around, [finding right spots, camping/trekking, setting up houses] - basically the know-hows of so many areas...
Plus, AMK might not show it off... but he is very rich... he is literally one of the right hand men of the prince... he has far more money than the simple haveli he lives in projects...

He has influence in some parts of the Empire too - far more influence than Heera would have...
so even if it appears AMK might alone not be enough... he would be an amazing added booster/help to the Parnagarhis relocate, if that is what is meant to happen!
Make the difference between life/death for many... 😳

Phew hope this answered your doubts.. 😆

👏 Perfect!

Besides, Samarth Singh had taken home a few lessons from Pappu's short life. Unlike that poor kid, he'd been blessed with a second chance and he planned to spend at least some of his days hereafter, doing good for others. If there came a time, that the people were forced to vacate the valleys following Shehzaade's orders, he would use his resources - all the money, manpower and means that was practically affordable - to help them rebuild a new life elsewhere.

wrote in this context 😃
