Location: Presidential Suite, Khurana Hotels, New York, 07:00am
Geet was in deep sleep when Janaki woke her up shaking her slightly,"Geet beta, utt subah hogayi." (Geet get up my dear, its morning!)
"Maa, mai yahaan?" (I'm here?)Then last night's whole sequence came back to her. Shyly she asked, "Inki abb tabiyat kaisi hai?" (How is HE now?)
"Inki? Kinki?" (HE? Who HE?)Janaki decided to tease Geet.
"Maa aap bhi naa!" (Maa you...) Geet said blushing. "Maa samay kya hua hai?" (Maa, what is the time?)
"Saat baje hain." (07:00am)
"Saat! Haaye Babaji, mai late ho gayi meri meeting hai 8:30baje!" (What 7:00 am? I have meeting at 08:30 am.!)
"Gudiya shaant ho jaa, kal raat yaa aaj subah tu 3:30baje soi hai. Thoda aur aaram kar le. Accha chai pee le!" (Calm down Gudiya! Last night or today morning you only slept at 03:30 am, so rest some more. Have tea first.)
"Chai kaa samay nahi hai, Maa. Kya mai abhi washroom use kar sakteen hoon?" (Maa there is no time for drinking tea. Can I use the washroom?)
"Haan. Magar..." (Yes. But...)
Geet went with her clothes and toiletries bag inside the washroom and returned dressed in a formal trousers and jacket and a pinned up hairdo. She was looking very elegant and sophisticated.
Ayush was still sleeping as he was feeling very tired going to school first time after flu. As his exams got over yesterday Ayush had one week off from school and day care centre. She was in two mind where to leave Ayush for today. As Ayush was sleeping, she first went to check on her Daddu. Seeing her formally dressed in Western wear both Thakur Amardeep and Savitri Devi were shocked but felt proud seeing her professional attire. In their hospital stay she was either in her scrubs or her white coat. Nurse Sheila was also seeing her first time in a formals. After checking Thakur Amardeep, he said with worry, "Guddo abb jaa kar Maan ko bhi dekh le patta nahi kaisa hoga? Mujhe toh koi kuch batta hi nahi." (Guddo now please go and see Maan how he is? No one is telling me anything.)
"Daddu aap shant ho jaaiye! Aur poochiye aapko kya poochna hai?" (Daddu please calm down first! What do you want to know?)
"Geet puttar, Maan ko kya hua hai?" (Geet, what happened to Maan?)
"Daddu, Mr. Khurana ko yaa toh food poisoning hui hai yaa stomach infection jiski wajeh se unhei kal raat nausea ho raha thaa. Abhi mai unka khoon test ke liye bhejoongi phir patta chalegaa. Aapko aur kuch poochna hai?" (Daddu, it seems that Mr. Khurana either has food poisoning or stomach infection because of which, since last night he has been having nausea. Now I'll take his blood sample and give it for testing than I'll know the true cause. Do you want to know anything else?)
"Nahi beta! Aur tum inn kapadon mei bilkul gori mem lag rahi ho. Magar bahut sundar!" (No my child! You are looking gorgeous like a my fair lady in these clothes!)
"Suniyeji meri Guddo ko nazar matt lagaaye!" (Listen don't cast an evil eye on my child!) Dadi took Geet's kajal and put a kala tikka behind her ear making Geet blush.
Geet carrying her medical bag with Janaki went to Maan's room and rang the bell a number of times but no one opened the door. "Maa aap zara apne kamre se phone karke poochiye ki sab theek hai?" (Maa, please make phone call from the other room and enquire if everything is fine?)
Finally after 6-7rings, Ram answered the phone and then opened the door. Geet went inside and found Maan still in drowsy and groggy state it looked as if he woke up with the phone ringing. Seeing Geet there all formally dressed, Maan was taken a back. He always knew that Geet was slim but he had only seen her either in her scrubs, her white coat, saree or churidaar kurta. But today seeing her in western wear he realised what a perfect hourglass figure she had! Seeing Maan in a daze Janaki spoke,"Gudiya, abb Maan kaisa hai?" (Gudiya how is Maan now?)
Geet went near him and started taking his blood pressure and checking his pulse. Maan was delighted to find Geet sitting next to him holding his wrist! "Maa and Papa, Mr. Khurana's BP is normal now. Which is a good sign!" After some time she took out a syringe from her bag and said, "Mr. Khurana, mujhe aapka blood extract karna hai blood test ke liye. Aaj aapka headache kaisa hai?" (Mr. Khurana I need extract some of your blood to send it for testing. How is your headache now?) Geet inserted the needle in his upper arm and withdrew the blood as much required.
"Headache nahi mujhe heartache ho raha hai, sweetheart. Tum mere dil ki doctor ho toh koi dawaa de do. Tum jitna chahe khoon nikal lo! Magar mere se door matt jaao, MERI MISHTY!" (I'm not having a headache but a heartache, sweetheart! You are my cardiologist, give me medicine for my heartache. Take out as much blood as you want , but please don't leave me My Mishty!) Maan held Geet's hand looking deep into her eyes.
Geet blanched and then blushed hearing Maan's flirty endearments in front of his parents.
Janaki was extremely embarassed but also amused to see her son's romeo avtaar. Ram nodded his head seeing his son's public display of affection. Before Maan could say anything to embarass Geet more she got up and said to Ram and Janaki "Maa aur Papa, abb mai chalti hoon. Shaam tak Mr. Khurana ki report aa jaani chahiye!" (Maa and Papa, I will leave now. By evening Mr. Khurana's blood report should come.)
"Beta tu nashta toh kar le. Ayush ko humare saath chod jaa." (Geet at least have breakfast. Please leave Ayush with us.)
"Maa Ayush aap sabko abhi jaanta nahi, aapko pareshaan karega." (Ayush doesn't know you all, Maa. He will trouble you.) Just then she heard a cry and ran towards the suite. She found Ayush was awake rubbing his eyes and was getting scared from Dadi. "Mennu Maa chahiye! Mennu Maa chahiye!" (I want my Mom! I want my Mom!) Dadi was taken back but extremely happy hearing such a small child speaking Punjabi which even her own grandsons could not talk! Geet at once came and hugged Ayush, "Mera baccha darr gaya?" (My baby got scared?)
"Maa, tussi kitthe the?" (Maa, where were you?
"Aa jaa mai battati hoon mai kahaan thee." (Come I'll tell you!)
Carrying Ayush in her arms Geet took him near Thakur Amardeep, who was sitting the suite's living room where there was sunlight. Geet introduced, "Ayush, yeh mere Dadaji yaa Daddu hai, matlab tumhare 'Bade Nanu'." (Ayush this my grandfather or my Daddu. You can call him Elder Grand dad.) Ayush got down from Geet's lap and went and touched Thakur Amardeep's feet, "Peri poona Bade Nanu."(Salutations!) Startling Thakur Amardeep but then he hugged Ayush and kissed his forehead.
"Yeh tumhari Badi Nani" (She is your elder Grand Mom!) Geet introduced Savitri Devi
"Peri poona Badi Nani." (Salutations!) Ayush touched Savitri Devi's feet. Dadimaa blessed Ayush and lovingly carressed his face.
Same way he was introduced to Ram as "Nanu" and Janaki as "Nani" touching both their feet. All khurana elders blessed Ayush heartily and were highly impressed with Geet's upbringing. Just then Maan walked in fresh from his bath and dressed in his casuals, seeing Maan Ayush ran to him, "Maan Uncle! Maan Uncle!" Before Ayush could lunge himself in Maan's arms, Geet held Ayush back saying, "Ayush wait beta! See Mr. Khurana is not well!" Showing him bandage where she had withdrawn blood. Ayush undestood and stepped back. "Accha, abb hum chalte hain!" (Come, lets go now!)
"Maa, I want to stay with Maan uncle."
"Ayush beta, see Maan uncle is not well and also Bade Nanu is not well!" (Ayush see Maan uncle and Elder Grand dad is not well.)
"Geet, let Ayush stay. We both will see soccar matches, play video games and have Pasta. What do you say Champ?" Maan and Ayush hi-fived.
Geet was still sceptical when Ram caressed her head affectionately and said, "Gudiya rehne de naa beta, Ayush ko humare saat. Tum apne lunch time mei usse aa ke le jaana. Agar Ayush tumhei bahut miss karta hai toh hum tumhein phone kar denge!"(Gudiya let Ayush stay with us. You come during your lunch time and pick him up. If he gets cranky, we will call you!)
Hesistatingly she agreed. Going near Ayush who was sitting on Maan's lap said, "Ayush beta, please tum brush kar lena, nahaana aur please kissi ko tang matt karna." (Ayush, please brush your teeth, take bath and don't trouble anyone.) Then touching Thakur Amardeep, Savitri Devi, Ram and Janaki's feet Geet left.
Once Geet left, Ram ordered breakfast for everyone. Maan and Ayush were talking as if they were long lost friends. Once Thakur Amardeep used a Punjabi phrase which Maan didn't understand but Ayush told him the phrase's meaning impressing Daddu more. After breakfast and playing for sometime Maan and Ayush both started feeling tired so Ram took them to the next room which had been tidied by now. After settling both Maan and Ayush, Ram returned. Janaki had made tea for everyone in the small kitchenette of the suite. Ram broached the topic softly, "Bauji mai aap sabki rai ek vishaye par lena chahta hoon." (Father I want an advice on a topic by all of you!)
"Kya?" (What?) Thakur Amardeep
"Bauji agar aap shaanti se meri baat sunne to mai bolun."(Please listen calmly to what I want to say!)
"Tum chahte ho ki MAAN AUR GEET KI SHAADI HO?" (You want MAAN AND GEET TO GET MARRIED!) Ram nodded in affirmative. "Haan mai bhi wahi chahta hoon." (I also want the same.) Bringing a shocked gasp from everyone present.
"Magar Bauji aap toh Maan aur Geet ki shaadi ke khilaaf hain." (But we thought you were against Maan and Geet's marriage!)
"Khilaaf nahi magar mai Maan ko sabak sikhana chahta hoon jisse woh Guddo ko aur dukh naa dein. Jo hadsaa saath saal pehle hua thaa uss ke liye Maan akela hi kasoorwaar nahi hai. Hum bhi utne hi kasoorwaar hain." (Not against, but I wanted Maan to learn a lesson so that again he doesn't give Geet sadness and pain. But Maan alone is not responsible for what happened 7 years back.)
"Matlab?" (What do you mean?)
"Hum sab Maan aur Geet ki shaadi ko lekar itne uttawale (excited) the ki hum teen baatein bhul gaye." (We all were becoming so excited and restless regarding Maan and Geet's marriage that we forgot three main causes of concern!)
"Kaunsi baatein?" (What causes for concern?)
"Pehli, ki GEET JAB BHI TANAAV MAI, DARD MEIN AUR NERVOUS HOTI HAI TOH USS KI AWAAZ CHALI JAATI HAI. AUR YEH BAAT HUM MAAN KO BATTANA BHUL GAYE! ;
Dusari ki agar Maan par zabardasti karen toh woh uska ulta karta hai. Jaise hum chahte the ki Maan aur Geet ki shaadi ho. Jiss ke liye maine Maan ko zabardasti Handa Haveli le gayaa aur usne apni zidd me Geet ko naa pasand kar diya. Jisse Meri aur Gurucharan ki dosti bhi khatare mei padh gayi; aur
Teesra aur aakhiri, ki humne Handa's ko Maan ki sacchai nahi battai ki Maan gussail aur ghammandi hai!" (First, that UNDER STRESS, PAIN AND NERVOUSNESS GEET LOOSES HER VOICE! This important thing we forgot to mention to Maan;
Second, that if we force Maan for something he will do opposite of it! Like I forced Maan to come to Handa Haveli for matrimonial purposes and he rejected Geet. Thereby endangering Gurucharan and my friendship; and
Last but not least, that we omitted to mention to Handas that Maan has bad temper and is vain!)
"Bauji, kal se mai dekh rahi hoon ki Maan aur Geet ek dusare ko kitna pasand karte hain! Maan ne mujhe battaya thaa ki woh Anamika yaani Geet se kitna pyaar karta. Aur Geet bhi Maan ko takleef mei dekh kar kheechi chali aayee!" (Father since yesterday, I'm observing that Maan and Geet like each other! Maan had also told me how much he loves Anamika or Geet. And Geet also could not see Maan in pain and ill health and came running!)
"Geet Maan ke liye "Karva Chauth" ka vrat bhi saat saal se rakh rahi hai!" (Geet is also keeping "Karva Chauth" fast for Maan for past 7 years!)
"KYA???" (What??)
"Iska matlab yehi hai ki Maan chahe usse apnaye yaa nahi, magar Geet ne ussi din saat saal pehle Maan ko apna pati maan liya thaa!" (This means that whether Maan accepts her or not, she considers Maan as her husband!)
"Magar Geet ki shaadi?" (What about Geet's marriage?)
"Zarur chhalava hai apne bacche ko izzat dene ke liye!" (It is definitely a charade to prevent her child from illegitimacy.)
"Abb yeh socho ki aage kya karna hai? Maan aur Geet ko kaise milaana hai!" (Now think how to make Maan and Geet come close?)
"Aage humein kuch nahi karna sirf yeh dekhana hai ki MAAN AUR GEET KI SHAADI KE VIRRUDH HAIN !" (We don't have to do anything. Just behave as if we are against Maan and Geet's marriage!)
