I don't get why Sid M is thought of as a non-actor or why the critics trashed his performance in particular, 'cause he was good. He delivered a natural and restrained performance.

Is only OTT acting appreciated?

sadly in Bollywood you are a good actor only if you are OTT...

I went to watch the movie with my friends who were completely negative about it because of the reviews...but they all got so hooked to the movie and loved the movie alot...they even told that it is one of the best movie in recent time and it has such a feel good feeling...for last 30 mins smile never left our face and after watching the movie we all discussed how much we can relate to certain situations in the movie and indeed Sid was the best of the movie and about Kat we all were like she can never learn to act...we all found her terrible in the break up scene and in other scenes she was tolerable as she doesn't have much to do...

And Sid...he has grown so much as an actor and going by audience reviews on twitter most of them loved Sid's performance in the movie...

But right there is so much negativity everywhere...there are articles like how Sid is far behind his contemporaries like Varun and all ...dont know whats gonna happen!

It stumps me.

I don't understand what the audiences like.

It's one thing for the audience to dislike the film, but the critics also trashed his performance, which is what will hurt him. If it was critically acclaimed but a failure, it wouldn't have mattered so much. Here, his contribution was criticised and that's not nice.

he said in BBD promotion interviews that he think BBD is his best performance and it got thrashed so badly by critics...its actually very sad and disappointing.

In his last interview he said na that there were so many uncharitable remarks :( :(

He must be gutted.
Well, I hope he knows there were many who appreciated his performance too. He should not doubt his own performance.

Most people want to see him fail. Hope he proves them wrong.

BBD is his lowest grosser amongst all 6 of his films, KoiMoi reported.
They were saying he has 'only' one 100 crore film, conveniently forgetting that most other actors also have a similar record when it comes to 100 crore grossers!

Hey Vika!

Did you read my BBD review?

I watched it today.

I am shocked as to how it was trashed by critics and the audience alike. It didn't deserve that at all.

I liked the film.

@lowest grosser- Hits and flops happen to everyone. Sid should be proud of BBD. Hope he bounces back strong.

Appu,

I agree with your review in that I also felt like I had watched a different film than the people trashing it in videos. I felt like Sid and Kat had an equal role though, even though the film was from Jai's POV. I found both their performances decent. Yes, the script could have focused more on character development, but I still appreciate the fresh concept. It was an interesting take on time travel, though the Panditji angle was not required.

Oh, and yes!
Only over the top acting is appreciated in Bollywood!
I mean, the way Sid acted in BBD is how one would be in normal life!

It's almost as if you have to spoon-feed the audience so that they are certain as to what you are thinking or feeling. 😆

This was why I loved Hasee toh Phasee in fact. There was no over the top drama or loud dialogues like typical Hindi comedies have. Everything was natural and the humour was in everyday situations. It was so believable throughout (only the ending wasn't, when he goes off with Meeta).

Also wanted to add that like everyone has already said, I did not see how Jai's confused expression in the first half was 'bad acting'. Surely that is how anyone would be if he or she woke up two years later!
One thing that they could have changed was to make the reason for the break up more believable. I thought it was a little childish.

Finally, I thought Sid and Kat had chemistry. I was taken aback by those who were saying Sid was too young to be cast opposite Kat.
