Ep 014

1. The chemistry is superb between the leads in the parkade scene. They sizzle. And Arnav's disdain for Khushi is palpable. I love the irony in the dialogue. She, warmly defending and praising her Boss. He, referring to her Boss as an idiot. As viewers we are in on the joke; a joke which they are wholly unaware of, and is at their expense. It creates a relationship between writer and viewer. Nicely done.

I loved the joke here. Arnav had no idea that who he was calling a fool and Khushi had no idea that she was defending him. But trust Arnav to insult her "kisi ameer aadmi ko fasa liya hai" There are times (many) when I feel like shaking our hero.

About Shyam and Buaji's relation - Shyam was always a charmer here. Or may be it was his name which endeared him to Buaji (just like N.K)

Ep 016

4. The pivotal moment---that moment which alters the entire equation between them is when she summons all her courage and takes a step forward to meet him. I believe he is now stimulated by her. A man like Arnav thrives on challenge. And challenges come very rarely when one is the established King of the World. Everyone in the room now disappears. They are alone and together in one frame. Maybe I'm projecting too much of my desires into this scene, but when he proposes the deal, I feel he wants her to accept it. I think he wants to play. And, Jalebi Jane would go so far as to say that he will be disappointed in her if she now backs down.

I loved when she took a step forward. Khushi understood that if she showed him her fear then he would use it to his advantage and against her.
I don't know about Mr. Raizada but I would have surely been disappointed had Khushi not accepted the deal. This is the point from where their deal making begins and continues changing into bets.

I want to add to Ep 015 - I witnessed the scene where he lets her fall when I decided to catch up on all the episodes (many missed episodes). I must say I was left shocked. He actually let her fall even if he knew she won't get hurt. But he did hurt her with his cruel words - Girna toh tumhari fitrat mein hai. How I hated it!! And I clearly remember that this scene was Mr. Sobti's favorite because nobody expects hero to let the heroine fall. A hero is always supposed to save her.
And this particular scene also paved the way for the upcoming shift in his attitude towards Khushi. Here he leaves her hand and let her fall and episodes later he runs (forgetting his phone call) and saves this same heroine from falling.

I love that that happened.
It made us sit and say---hang on!---
It is wonderfull storytelling approach---to go against form.

Like in the early episode where it appears that Khushi is going to set herself on fire---but then we see her making jalebis.

I agree with your point above. But let me add that in South Asian serials skin show is more done for vamps or the girl they want to show as unsuitable for the hero (I find it highly disturbing). They use short dresses as a measure by which a girl (in fiction) shall be rejected which is wrong on many levels (viewers are mainly females so such portrayal of another female is unacceptable for me. Also that some viewers make this their permanent bias for judgement)

Yes, I have observed that attitude in the Turkish and Arabic serials.

Now her being confused led me to another scene (from an episode which will come quite late). The scene where she imagines her married life with both Shyam and Arnav. I have to say that I absolutely find her daydreaming capability equal parts hilarious and equal parts cute.

I agree. They are delightful. And for viewers, they are clues to understanding Khushi's heart.

I specially loved the moment where Khushi bends backwards when Arnav comes near her but doesn't step back. As you have mentioned it shows that she is scared but she won't give in to her fears.😊
Oh and she her trying to catch her breath and asking him to wait is hilarious. It is quintessential Khushi Kumari Gupta😆

Yes, one of my numerous fave Khushi moments.
The writer(s) who thought up this Heroine are genius.
And fortunate to have Ms Irani play the part, who does it justice.

I like Naniji. She is the pillar of that family. She is a warm person as well as a strong one. She sees same kind of warmth, understanding and strength of character in Khushi behind all her craziness. Every family needs someone like that to hold them together.
Loved Manjuji's analogies. They will soon realize that taming ASR is not an easy task.

That moment when Nani catches Anjali in the lie is funny.
Poor Anjali---I feel badly for her in these early episodes because we know where she is heading, and she is clueless. Sigh.

Beautiful thoughts again, Maya. You pull out the stops each time. Very definitely a defining episode. The battle lines are clearly drawn. Interesting parallels with the Art of War indeed. Even Sun Tzu could not have found a more worthwhile protagonist to exemplify his point of view. Arnav Singh Raizada is obviously a past master at executing deals and winning battles, let alone the war. So when he decides to draw battle lines and make sure the enemy knows the territory, he does so with finesse. This is the point at which despite offering Khushi an exit road, he hopes she will remain and continue the game with him. And she does. That marked the sparking of his interest in her. He is not someone that appreciates people leaving the battlefield. He looks at retreat as a sign of weakness. And a spirited Khushi who says 'game on' to him with her eyes and demeanor more than her words is to him an irresistible Khushi. I love those contemplative scenes in IPKKND best of all. They tell the audience clearly about the inner tribulations of the character. The recliner to me was pretty much Arnav's equivalent of a psychiatrist's couch...that and the poolside are his go-to places to reflect on events and people, plan out his strategies for the following day. Yes, Lavanya should certainly have been worried rather than smug at this point!

Best,

Anu

IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 018

One: Measurements

1. From Khushi's mouth to Devi Maiyya's ear: Wouldn't it be great, Jiji, if we married two brothers? Then we would never have to part. Cut to montage of four individuals. Two who happen to be brothers. Hmm. It is rather perfect! What I love about serials is that we are often told the ending right at the beginning. The objective is not to surprise us at the end but to make the journey worthwhile. (I believe this is the first time we hear -Tu Hi Bataa Mere Maula-.)

2. The Paying Guest arrives. Even if we did not have the gift of hindsight, Buaji's decision to take Shyam in is highly irresponsible. And what makes it more appalling is that her objective is selfish. That Payal shows hesitation is a nudge from writer to viewer that we should take note.

3. When writing about Arnav, I often trace his actions to his talent at Power Games. It's a convenient roadmap. Arnav may be a Master; but, Shyam is a Ninja. And this is because Shyam has to excel. Power is about subterfuge. And he has more to gain and more to hide. An instance of this is when Buaji informs Payal that he is to going to be living with them. Payal sees the inappropriateness of it, and makes a soft protestation. Someone less skilled than Shyam would have made a case for himself. But Shyam makes a case against himself. He says, "it's true, Buaji. Payalji is right. I shouldn't be here. You have two young women under your charge. It would be inappropriate." Of course this only makes Buaji more comfortable with him. Mission accomplished.

4. Speaking of Power Games, how about a round of applause for Khushi Kumari Gupta? Get others to do the work for you, but always take credit. I love when the writers depict Khushi with a mind equal in imagination to Arnav's. Arnav has a higher reach, more experience, more available resources but Khushi's mind is as creative as his. The one-upmanship between them results in great viewing.

5. And let's end with Buaji: two scenes today where she admits that Khushi has qualities which are admirable. And she urges Payal to take Khushi's resilience as an example. I like seeing this Buaji.
