CHAPTER 13
"Manik , what happened ? Has the car broken down?"Nandini asked in a worried tone as she saw him failing to ignite the engine after several attempts.After bidding a final goodbye to the fishes , Nandini and Manik had checked out from the apartment right in time and were now heading towards Malhotra Mansion where Cabir and Navya were waiting for them alongwith their little bundle of joy , Ananya.
"Manik please fix it soon naa, I am getting so restless to meet my baby." She pleaded shaking her head like a toddler.
Manik made a puppy face and turned towards her .
"Nandini , you know what ! Workers' efficiency can be increased if you promise them a reward" He spoke in a matter of fact tone.
Nandini was left bewildered by his statement .She flinched her brows in confusion and pondered over what he had said a few seconds back trying to relate it with their current situation.
"Wha..What do you mean by that?" She eventually asked unable to make out what he meant.
"I mean that if you want me , who is your driver right now , to work faster then you have to give me a reward" He replied casually eyeing her .
By now Nandini had got a hint of what he was trying to say.Her expressions softened as she replied in the same tone as his.
"Ohhh...to yeh baat hai.To kya reward chahiye driver sahib ko"
"A kiss" He spoke instantly without letting her complete.
Nandini's eyes widened as she heard his demand.And before Nandini could realise anything , he bent forward , aiming towards her lips.
Nandini shielded her lips with the back of her hand , just in time before their lips could fuse.
"What the f.."Manik spoke in an annoyed tone .
Nandini pushed her back , resting both her hands on his chest and smiled.
"Driver ji , first finish your work" Nandini gestured towards the car " and then ask for the reward..."
"Oh k" Manik agreed and once again twisted the key to ignite the engine.
"Bull's eye" He shrieked excietedly as the car started in the first attempt itself" Kitna obedient engine hai...or should I say it understands my need for you" he winked and pulled her closer with a jerk "Should I" Manik asked in a soft seductive voice as he slid his finger down her temple.
His proximity , like always , was melting her down.Her heart was thumping inside her chest as Manik inched closer and she closed her eyes .
Just when their lips were few millimetres apart , Manik's phone rang and it distracted both of them.Manik was reluctant to take the call , but Nandini insisted and hence he took out his phone from pocket.
"Harshad" Manik flinched his eyes before answering the call.
"Manik Sir" Harshad spoke from the other side " There is an issue with the registration of your marriage .Can we please meet and talk about it"
"Ok...I'll be reaching back home in 30 minutes.See you there"Manik disconnected the phone hastily and drove the car , as he told Nandini about Harshad's call.

Manik and nandini walked inside the house holding hand in hand.
"maa..paa.." Ananya walked toward them taking small hasty steps and nandini engulfed her in her arms.
"awww my baby...did you miss mumma?" She caressed her head and kissed her cheek "' Mumma missed you a lot sweety"
"And papa missed you too" manik added as he kissed her head.
"Haan to honeymoon par saath hi le jana Ananya ko" Cabir chuckled as he came and stood near them.
Ananya giggled as she extended her arms and hopped onto Manik.
"Bilkul le kar jayenge" Manik spoke as he kissed his little angel again.
And before he could say anything Inderwardhan Sarabhai appeared in front of him.
"Uncle aap" Manik and Nandini stepped forward and took his blessings " When did you come?"
Inderwardhan informed Manik that he had come a few minutes to back to invite Manik and Nandini for his wedding anniversary party.He also said that Cabir and Navya had told him everything about them.Manik was relieved that uncle knew the truth.

"Sir they are asking for Nandini ma'am's identification documents" Harshad told Manik " Passport or driving license or even Aadhar card would do"
Manik and Nandini exchanged glances.Manik knew that Nandini didn't have any of those documents.Everything was at her home in Mangalore.
"Ma' am aap documents la dijiye , main abhi apply kar deta hu" Harshad prompted .
"Its ok harshad" Manik intervened just in time as he saw tension building up on Nandini's face " I'll handle the matter myself , you may leave now"
"But sir , without documents..." Harshad wanted to know the reason for not handing over the documents.
"Did you hear what I just said" Manik's voice was firm and clear "Leave"
Harshad felt a bit humiliated again.He lowered his head and walked out of the house.

"She doesn't have her documents ...the lady who picked up her residence phone , disconnected on hearing her name" Harshad spoke to himself trying to unjumble the mystery " Could it be that she ran away from her without anyone's knowledge.And if it is so then as a responsible citizen I must inform her family about her whereabouts" A devilish grin appeared on her face as he took out his phone and dialled Nandini's Mangalore number.

"Arrey to kis ullu ke patthe ne kaha hai ki shaadi sirf court me hi ho sakti hai"Inderwardhan spoke as he looked at the gloomy faces of Manik and Nandini " mandir me bhi to ho sakti hai"
"Right" Cabir clicked his fingers as he understood uncle's intentions "Manik , shaadi kal hi hogi aur mandir me hogi.Side by side we can apply for Nandini's documents and jab bhi few months me documents aayenge to we can apply for registered marriage also"
Manik heaved a sigh of relief and looked at Nandini " Not a bad idea though, what say Nandini"
She smiled and nodded in affirmation.Everyone was happy and excited and so was Ananya who was giggling continuously.
"Ye hui naa baat" Navya spoke excietedly " Now Ananya is also happy"
"Sorry yaar Manik " Cabir spoke in a teasing tone " Par main aur Navya to nandini ki taraf hain...kyu Navya?"
"Exactly...hum to ladkiwale hain" Navya winked as she went and stood beside Nandini who was smiling continuously.
"Arrey fikar not Manik beta "Indervardhan walked and stood beside Manik " Hum ladkewale hai...Baraat le kar jayenge"
"Chalo then done" Cabir said " I'll make all the arrangements for tomorrow. Abhi bahut late ho gya hai , chalo Navya and Nandini lets go"
Manik was astounded to hear Cabir's words.
"Oh hello...what? Kahan le kar chale Nandini ko"Manik's worry was plainly visible on his face .
"Have patience my would be jiju" Navya mocked " Tomorrow is the wedding , so tonight Nandini will stay with us"
"Wha.what do you mean stay with you?" Manik stammered as he asked " I mean...uska ghar to yehi hai na then why..?"
Cabir came forward and squared Manik's shoulder " Hone wale jijaji...shaadi se ek din pehle to ladka ladki ek doosre ko dekhte bhi nahi , aur tu ek ghar me sone ki baat kar raha hai"
"What nonsense are you talking Cabir" Manik stuttered and looked at Indervardhan who was calmly listening to the conversation " Uncle please rokiye na..ye kaisi baat kar raha hai"
Indervardhan looked at Manik and Cabir alternately .
"Sorry beta Manik" He winked at Cabir " But this time I have to support Cabir " And looking at Manik's face Navya , Cabir and Inder burst out into laughter while Manik looked as the assaulted one.
He glared at Cabir angrily ,held Nandini's hand and walked towards his room , tagging her along "Hum abhi aaye" He spoke meekly before shutting the door.

"Its just one day Manik ,why are you getting so impatient" Nandini cupped his cheek and tried to convince him " Aur vaise bhi we are meeting tonight at uncle's anniversary party , so I don't think there will be much time left after that"
"Nandini , its not about being impatient or desperate baby" Manik flinched his brows "You...you know I cant afford to loose you and Ananya again.I mean...You know I breathe for you and ...your safety comes before..."
"Shhh..relax" Nandini smiled "Its just a matter of few hours aur vaise bhi I know ki tum mujhe kabhi kuchh hone hi nahi doge"
Manik kissed her forehead and looked into her eyes.
"I promise you...As long as I am there , nothing can harm you" He sweared while holding her hands.
Nandini planted a kiss on his hand and stepped back to walk outside.
"I love you Nandini" Manik called out from behind and she turned back to look at him.
"I love you more"She replied and ran outside.

"Kahan ho yaar tum log Cabir" Manik shouted over the phone as he walked across the coridor of the Hotel lobby " I have been waiting since ages"
Manik had reached an hour before time and Cabir was on his way with Nandini and Navya.Manik had been calling Cabir every 10 minutes since then while Cabir was stuck in a traffic jam.
"Hi" Manik felt someone tap at his back and call out.The voice was a familiar one so he immediately turned around and what he saw was enough to sweep him off the floor.
"Nandini" He murmured her name under a trance as he saw her standing , nicely dressed up in a skirt and crop top.She was looking as beautiful as an angel.Her big doe shaped eyes , open tresses and rosy cheeks were casting their spell on Manik...his breath almost stopped for a moment.
Manik was completely lost in her eyes. Nandini realised his state of mind and smiled to herself shyly.Her cheeks turned a darker shade of red.
"Excuse me" Cabir clicked his fingers in front of their eyes " Can you guys please stop romancing here"
"Kya yaar!!!Tum log kahin bhi shuru ho jate ho kya?" Navya ,who was holding Ananya , spoke in a teasing tone.
Both of them gained back their senses and looked away out of embarrassment.
"Na..nahi aisa ...kuch..."Manik tried to give a clarification but was stopped in between by Cabir.
"Bro...lets not waste more time , we are already late" Cabir said " Andar chalein?"
Ananya was excited as ever to see her father.She gestured Manik to take her in his arms and he happily did so while stealing glances of his would be wife.
They walked into the hall where the party had already begun.After wishing Uncle and aunty , four of them sat around a round table.Manik wanted to talk to Nandini in alone , he tried make a few excuses but with Cabir being the smarter one , all was in vain.
"A very warm welcome to everyone" A voice on the loud speaker captured their attention, it was none other than that of Sahil Sarabhai , the older son of Maya and Inderwardhan.
"As you all know that today my mom and dad have completed 30 years of this blissful bond so we want to celebrate this occasion..."
"Ek minute ek minute" He was interrupted by Roshesh , his younger sibling " Sahil bhai , isse pehle ki aap aage kahein, main ek kavita share karna chahta hu, joki maine momma and daddy ke liye specially likhi hai"
Sahil , if had the option , would have happily broken Roshesh's jaw without batting an eyelid.His brother's stupid poems always irritated him to core but alas he could not do that in front of so many people.So he handed over the mike to Roshesh with a fake smile plastered on his face.
"Oh Roshesh , my baby" Maya smiled with pride as she saw her son holding the mike.
"Baby nahi Baby Godzilla bolo" Inderwardhan murmured in her ear and Maya glared at him angrily , asking him to shut up.
"This one is for you Momma" Roshesh started speaking the poem ...
"Ek common man ko mili hai pari
Jaise cheeku ke saath ho raspberry
Aage aage momma aur peeche peeche daddy
Jaise ho Tom and Jerry
Momma hai sweet shrikhand aur daddy hain ghee wali poori
Mauka hai khushi ka aaj , Mommy and daddy ki anniversary"
The hall echoed with the sounds of claps .Cabir threw out the sip of drink from his mouth as he heard Roshesh s pathetic poetic skills which he was flaunting with pride.Maya was more than happy with her son's performance while Inderwardhan was searching for a corner to hide his face.Sahil quickly snatched away the mike from Roshesh and gestured him to get back to his seat.The cake cutting ceremony was held thereafter .
"And now I would like all the couples present here to grace the stage for couple dance." Sahil announced " Mom Dad ...please initiate the dance"
Manik was more than happy when he got to know about couple dance.This was the moment he had been waiting for.He quickly held Nandini's hand and stepped forward towards the stage but Cabir's voice made him stop.
"Oh hello...where are you going?" Cabir asked in a teasing tone"Who will take care ofAnanya...bhai mujhe bhi biwi ke saath dance karna hai"
All colours of happiness faded from Manik's face and he looked at Ananya who was sleeping peacefully in Navya's arms.
"Don't worry Manik bhai"Roshesh came just in time and took Ananya from Navya "I am single so I can take care of this little angel.Aap jao stage par"
Manik heaved a sigh of relief and thanked Roshesh for his sweet gesture .Roshesh was his saviour in disguise.After thanking Roshesh one more time , Manik and Nandini moved towards the stage.
All lights were switched off , with just a few candles lit on the tables.It was a perfect romantic atmosphere with all the couples present on the stage.
Manik pulled Nandini in his arms as DJ started playing a romantic number in the background.There eyes were locked with each other.They were so lost in each other as if the world around them didn't exist at all.He was dying to hold her.
"Jab koi baat bigad jaye , jab koi mushkil pad jaye...tum dena saath mera , oh hamnawa"
Manik lightly caressed his fingers across her back and Nandini trembled with pleasure.He held her securely to save her from falling.Her knees felt like jelly as they slowly moved in rhythm of the music.
"Thankyou...for protecting me" She murmured while looking into his eyes.
"I will always protect you"He replied instantly and pecked her forehead "Always.."
Nandini couldn't stop herself and clinged to his chest.He chuckled and kissed her head as they continued to sway to the beats of the song.
