BadAss Dharma is back!! She should have been brought back yesterday during the fight scene, but it was good seeing her stand up for Ashok in front of Bindusar. Well done Dharma, well done. Though, she still thinks that Ashok had a reason to not admit it was Jagannath. There was no reason ... ugh ... since when is Kaurvaki's love interest more important than ABN? Where is Chand now? Where is Ashok even, because that man pretending to be Ashok (to clarify, I'm taking about the CAS character Ashok, NOT Mohit of course) is nothing more than a joke and a blot on (younger) Ashok's name. Never would I have imagined such a day for CAS Ashok ...

Bindusar the Samrat has finally arrived. How long this will last is questionable, but the sudden change in Bindusar should not have been shown. It should have been drawn out with him noticing and connecting the dots himself - and this should have started after Helena's revelation - rather than just believing Dharma. I mean twenty minutes ago (in CASland time), Bindusar had just told Dharma to shove it and pushed her away, and didn't even realize that he had injured Dharma. Then, all of a sudden Dharma tells him how stupid he is to his face, and he believes her and he believes that Ashok's accusation against the evil four is valid?

I'd guess that this is just a facade put on by Bindusar to calm Dharma and ensure his wife-servant remains. He's going to revert back to normal because the evil four will do something to make Ashok look extremely low. Of course there isn't any evidence / scenes suggesting that, but we'll see.

Again, why the hell hasn't Jagannath been arrested even? The guy stole the treasury and he wasn't punished by Bindusar. In fact, he had the freedom to walk back to his quarters. And what's with his wife? She's acting like nothing bad even happened? You people are standing in enemy territory after committing a crime against said enemy and you're relaxed and everything is okay?

Devi .. Devi ... Devi ... god dammit DVs. Yesterday it was Dharma's low point, today it's Devi's. Making her bow down and beg to Jagannath to give permission for Ashwaki, what kind of BS is that? Kaurvaki should have stood up and told Devi to stop it, that man isn't worth bowing down to ...

But oh, she asks Bindusar to forgive her father? I get she's still Jagannath's daughter, but he hasn't been much of a father nor has he ever expressed an interest for Kalinga or Kaurvaki. It would have been better to ask Bindusar to spare his life; that way Jagannath will get imprisoned but he'll still be alive. But how does forgiving Jagannath - never mind the numerous atrocities he committed to Ashok - act as a step towards ABN? It doesn't. ABN would be that much easier without a selfish douche-monkey like Jagannath.

And Jagannath thinks his advantage is Ashok's need to have his permission to marry Kaurvaki? Just kill him and there is no need to seek permission anymore!! Also, what is with Ashok's need to still get permission? Jagannath technically gave permission, and since he's plotting Magadh's doom ... is getting his permission AGAIN all that necessary?

Bindusar claims that he wanted to set an example in front of Magadh so everyone knows what will happen if they steal the treasury. Hahaha ... this is perfect. Now everyone in Magadh can get ties to the royal family.

-- Step 1: Steal the treasury

-- Step 2: Watch their daughter get married to Ashok because that's their punishment. 🤣🤣🤣 ... oooh that's scary. Now I won't even consider stealing the treasury. W*F

Kaurvaki is a disgrace to ABN ... her initial display of ABN loyalty keeps going downhill. It'll come back when Ashok finally realizes what's happening.

P.S. Dharma finally called herself a Dasi today. She's a god damn queen, stop calling her a dasi. It's annoying. Every villain calls her a dasi, and she isn't. Her caste (in the show) is unknown, but given that she and her father practice medicine, she's most likely part of a brahmin family (and if not, the Vaishya class - but even so, that doesn't make her a dasi). It's a cheap insult and it's seriously messed up. It might refer to her dasi days in Magadh though?

dharma is frm brahmin family ... I remember once chanakya said on 2nd or 3rd episode of cas dat " da son of bindu born frm da daughter of ...(forgot his name)brahmin subhadrangi will fullfill his dream of sthing i forgot again." Nd bharmin are higher caste ... Da minister of dat oeriod were brahmin as we see in cas..
Dnt knw why dey r insulting dharam calling her dasi bt da truth is dat she disguise herself as dasi to hide her identity.. Bt she is da daughter of a brahmin...

Dharma is a brahmin in the show. I was watching the dharma scenes that shyam posted here few days back.In one of the scenes,Dharma was telling ashok that u r not going to be a kshatriya king.U r going to be a brahmin woman's son or something like that.
It's really an insult that a Brahmin by birth and Kshatriya by marriage is called a Daasi. In those days,Brahmins were the most respected people and insulting a Brahmin was supposed to be a sin.I don't know how the cvs keep showing this again and again.

Whether the show is going off air or not, they are on probation right now. But the CVs have dug themselves into a pit. They can't exactly abort the whole Swyamvadu track. Or can they? 😆
If you idiots listened to us instead of the stupid fangirls the show wouldn't be where it is right now.

Way to ruin a good show. Every historical show is ruined the second they introduce romance. Get it into your thick skulls already CVs. Historical audiences don't like modern day cliched romances inserted into historical periods.

And historically there is a story that goes on about how Dharma got married to Bindusar. But out of jealousy of her beauty, the other Queens tricked her into becoming a barber. Barber was a profession of lower caste people. Bindusar wasn't pleased.

So yeah, that's how the tale of Dasi Rani came to be. But CVs took it to another level.

Thanks Shyamala for the reply.

If opting out gives you peace of mind, do as you wish to. It is clear that this EDT is proudly non-conformist. Members here live by breaking rules -- and one of them is not to take the EDT itself seriously. So I understand where you come from.

Now for the part in bold italic: Shyamala you are saying this to someone who considers herself a political animal. I live and breathe politics. By this I don't mean politicking but an understanding of how politics plays out on the ground, of how different social groups negotiate with those in power to try and extract the best for themselves.

I also do not share the common disdain for politics and politicians. The latter are among the most intelligent people I have met; bureaucrats don't even come close but I'd place them at a distant second.

Yes people screw up their noses and say politicians are corrupt but corporates are not just as or more corrupt but they rob you without your knowing about it and leave you with no redress options. Politicians are answerable and get booted out. And not to forget, they provide the masala; they are better entertainers than those who give us our daily entertainment. And how parties out-manoeuvre each other could put fiction to shame.

Kashmir Valley may be just 15 per cent of J&K but if the Valley burns, we can't pretend to be unaffected. But I agree that most of the times, the discussions are caught in a vicious cycle and lead to no tangible outcome. Agree too that private channels are terrible. But do tune into Rajya Sabha TV. The sanest discussions happen there. And also with my favourite 9 pm anchor.

But again, I disagree with you on your sweeping dismissal of parliamentary debates. The recent debate on GST was outstanding. It is when you watch these debates that you realise how much hard work goes into each piece of legislation. (why am I even telling you all this? you should know:))

I know and agree that politics can be corrosive and divisive because of being guided by vote outcomes. But there is no system other than democracy that allows channels of expression for aggrieved groups. The proof is out there.

I wouldn't have written so much on this subject but for my own interest in it. I'm deceptively calm and amenable as long as I'm not provoked on politics. You should see me in family gatherings where the conversation inevitably veers around to: " We need a strong dictator." I explode and then the victims quietly change the subject.

In any case, watching anything, even politicians, surely can't be worse than watching Crapta Kapoor.

I promise not to bring my special interests into future conversation. It would be terrible if the overseers decide to close the EDT citing my transgressions. For the same reason I shall read but nor reply should you respond to my rant. Because that will be unending.

Good Lord, my dear Rohini, now you are making me feel guilty! You have got it all wrong, I am afraid, but that has made your reaction so sweet and thoughtful. And you typed out all this while in such a rush? 🤗

I was not apologising for sticking in that part about last night's episode. Why should I ? I was laughing at myself for doing that almost automatically, like a smoker unconsciously pulling out and lighting a cigarette in spite of having earlier resolved to stop smoking cold turkey. It is such a habit with me when I read or watch or notice anything, dissecting and analysing it. I do it for myself all the time, and here I just put it down, that is all.

Me demoralised? Perish the thought! I was a tad exasperated for a while, and then I realised that this is how this place works, and I just do not fit in here in terms of what I want out of my participation, that is all. Perhaps I am a bit spoilt as well, but that is not so much my fault as that of the umpteen kids, and the non-kids, spread across all those forums who have spoilt me.😉

Don't fret about the Lok Sabha discussions that you missed, Rohini, the one on the Kashmir valley ( I do not see why this 15% of the area of the J&K is constantly conflated with the whole State, disregarding not just Jammu and Ladakh, but the Baltis and the Bakharwals, the Shias of Kargil and so many other groups there, spread over the remaining 85%) or on anything else. They rarely produce anything worthwhile, and the days of the great parliamentarians are long gone. I avoid the so-called debates on the private news channels as well, which inevitably end in a shouting match, with the anchor shouting the loudest, and give one a headache. It is all badly slanted anyway, and all those invited have their own personal axes to grind.
It is the same almost everywhere else as well, witness the three ring circus that is the ongoing US presidential campaign!

But I agree completely with you about the problem of prioritising. If I had still been an Ambassador somewhere, I would not have thought of joining the IF in the first place, for I found even Facebook so time-consuming that I soon started visiting it only once in a while. And I would never have been able to stay abreast of the serials anyway.

I enjoyed your comments on Ashoka as he was last night. Only, I would not say that

In one stroke CVs have knocked the bottom of the story by placing Ashoka's love interest over his supposedly all-consuming Akhand Bharat Mission. The episode exposed both Ashok and KVK as monstrous liars. There is nothing more distasteful for me than a woman distracting her lover from his larger goals. And the man who succumbs to such a woman is even worse than her.

See, my dear, he who falls, picks himself up and rises again is always rated higher than the one who never fell. This is the danger that Ashoka was afraid of, consciously or sub-consciously, all along. He tells Devi that he wants to distance Kaurwaki from himself for her sake, for her safety and comfort. But it was also, and even more so, for his own sake, so as not to be diverted from his ABN mission.

Ashoka is not a liar. He is a young man overpowered by a longstanding obsession for this girl, who was with him in the spirit all thru the long, lonely years. When he was marooned in the arid desert of the soul that was his exile, when even his mother ostracised him and treated him as if he was some monster, it was the memory of meri Kaurwaki that was his emotional lifeline. Who can blame him for that?

He fights this obsession with his conscious self time and again, but now it has now broken thru the barriers he had erected around himself, thanks in large part to Dharma and also Bindusara. So, in that moment of weakness, faced with a tearful Kaurwaki who pleads for their mutual love to be salvaged, he deludes himself that he can indeed pull it off , that he can have it all. Remember how reluctant he is then, there is not the trace of a smile and the face seems grim and set.

I do not understand how he could have been so foolish as not to foresee the true ramifications of what Jagannath has done, and assume that there could ever be a stable relationship between Kalinga and Magadha. Or so foolish as not to foresee what would happen in the court.

But when the storm breaks over his head, and especially when he faces the choice between his vachan and his mother, the enormity of his mistake, of his folly, is revealed to him, and he looks almost demented under the strain. What he has done amounts to a betrayal of a trust, for he should have placed his motherland ahead of all else, and it is this realisation of what he has done that crushes him and forces him to his knees.

Mohit was wonderful in that part- the body language, the voice, everything.

Finally, as the Lord Jesus said to those who wanted to stone Mary Magdalene, let he who has never sinned cast the first stone. I would not see Ashoka in the way in which you see him, for I am constantly conscious of human fallibility. True greatness lies not in never failing, but in rising above failure and achieving great heights. Just as true courage is not the absence of fear, but in facing one's fears and conquering them.

Ashoka will now rise again. But what about the horrendous things he is going to do as Chhand Ashoka? Those would be a far darker blot on his character than something as foolish as this misstep.

But no one ever condemns Ashoka for the slaughter of all those innocents. It is like the Lord Buddha forgiving Angulimala for all the murders he had committed just because he had finally seen the light. I suppose no one interviewed the families of those murdered by Angulimala!Their reactions were unlikely to have been admiring of the Lord Buddha's aseem karuna towards this ex-monster who had destroyed all their lives.

To end on a lighter note, what would you bet that the target audience for Devi's next uplifting bhashan is going to be the Magadha Samrat (as he keeps saying, as if to reassure himself that he is indeed that😉) ? It would be just desserts for Bindusara, especially as I would not put it beyond her to point her forefinger at his face!😉

Finally, I would have loved to have looked you up in New Delhi, but since my mother became a serious cardiac patient, I do not travel out of Pune at all. Never mind, there is always skype, as I do not have an i-phone and thus cannot avail of face time.

Shyamala

Really liked your episode analysis. About the above: Agree totally but has anything been logical on this show?

This is very interesting and is a far more credible explanation for why Ashok is called Dasiputra.

Why can't producers produce period drama without invoking actual historical figures? The harm done is huge because over time the so-called historical, with no provenance, displaces real history in people's minds.

In JA, am told, (haven't watched), Ruqqaiya Begum was turned into an evil, jealous queen, just to upgrade the "virtuous" Jodha Here in CAS, a whole new story has been created when there is enough and more real history available for anyone to pick up.

CAS could have been named Chakravartin Arvind Samrat for all anyone cared.

And JA could have been just Begum and Badshah.

Omg kalakeya's in cas😲😆,they again copied from bahubali,it seems like cas writers have nothing to show, pathetic cvs😡 what's the need to copy from movies when ashoka story himself s very interesting and there s so much to show, his journey towards throne, royal politics ,his marriages, his journey from chand to dharma ashok, his kids, ashoka actual life itself full of twists and turns what's the need to copy from movies🤢,nw I am feeling kvk s going to die(of course fake one) maybe by protecting ashoka this s how always happens in cas heroine protects hero life and sacrifices her life, dharma rakht rakht screaming s symbolic, and this s how ashvi marriage happens

Only one word for today's episode-BORING! 🤢

Was there no better idea to stop Ashwaki marriage? This show is just becoming crappier day by day.

I guess chanda will be brainwashed heavily by charu and sushim and she too may turn negative.Or even if she doesn't turn negative, she many support the evil 4 in their evil deeds.
