I see many of forum wassi's confusing between words like Transgender, Eunuch, Kinner, Intersex. I thought instead of giving paras and paras of medical words, I might give a simple one liner definitions. Transgender - A transgender is a person whose body is that of a normal male or female but psychologically they feel they belong to opposite sex and dress as such.
Eunuch - They are also sort of transgenders, but they are born males who are castrated in early age and were dressed as females. They are normally used for protection of royal women in older days.
Kinner - They are also called Hijra or She male. Normally it has different meanings, but widely used is, a female converting her self into male.
And Finally Intersex- Intersex is condition where anatomically there are differences in body and they have both male and female parts or none . These people can get treated operatively, and treated. But they are often infertile because of hormonal disturbances in body. they have both testorsterone and Oestrogen in equal amounts. There are cases when a woman is married normally and live a normal life except for absence of menses , only to discover later that she is an intersex.. They are also called Hermaphrodites. I personally saw a case like this during my gynecology postiing. They almost live a complete normal life.
Hope this is helpful
