WRITER'S NOTE

We are extremely thankful to all the readers for their valuable comments and feedbacks. We did come across many comments mentioning that the prologues were a bit confusing. We understand and for it we decided to let you have an insight to our finite series of the story via a theme song. The link has been attached below. This will help you to have a glimpse of what you might read ahead.

Everything that you witness by your eyes may not be the truth always and might just be a delusion. This is an intricate tale of a conflict about who wins : DELUSION or TRUTH.

The 1st chapter will be posted in sometime and we'll be ready to narrate the story. We would be happy to have you with us on this story and for PM send us BUDDY request.

CHAPTER 1

INCEPTION

21st MARCH 2014

CENTER FOR ARTIFICAL INTELLIGENCE & ROBOTICS, BANGALORE

7:45 P.M.

Senior scientist Mr. Murthy was in his cabin and completely immersed in his project. He was searching for a breakthrough from a long time to spot the hurdle. He was seated in his chair and was constantly pondering over the notes as he knew the answers were hidden in them. He was not able to assemble the pieces of puzzle to come out of the maze. He knew he had to be calm and focus on the missing piece of the jigsaw to understand the path for coming out of the maze. He and his team had given everything for this highly ambitious project and he couldn't give up now when he was so close to finding the issue. Just then he received a call from his 'life', his daughter...

"Yes Kanna, I am leaving office in sometime and I promise I will drive safe. You please go for your classes and call me when you get free. Love you Kanna."

A smile donned on his face after speaking to Nandini and then he got back to his work. He was scanning his latest research document he had compiled a few weeks back and finally he spotted the issue. He somehow got an idea now and this brought an instant relief on his face. He knew this is what he was looking for months and hastily reached out for a pen and began to put all the pieces of puzzle together. Suddenly, the door outside creaked that made him freeze at his place. He dropped the pen and removed his reading glasses coz he knew the office had been closed with only him and the security guards.

7:58 P.M.

He got up from his chair to inspect through his one-sided glass hole in the door and he got an intuition that something was round the corner. His cabin had high security on its entrance and required his retina scan to open so he knew he could snip a few minutes now. He strolled swiftly to his desk and collected all his notes, files, and his hard disk that had the sensitive information and safeguarded them in an envelope. He quickly opened his drawer, which had the key for a hidden closet in his cabin that was camouflaged.

He knew that the clock was ticking with the speed of wind and he had just a few minutes if he wished to secure all the information. He hastily pushed the envelope inside the secret closet and sealed it. He picked up his car keys and his laptop and made his way out from his cabin towards the entrance of the building. He increased his pace and marched in the direction of the parking area.

8:05 P.M.

He looked around to find the guards been shot down and was horrified by the sight. Sweat beads appeared on his forehead and now he had every reason to panic. He ran from there towards his car and quickly got into it. However, his car didn't start and he banged the steering in haste and got down to find a taxi for himself while he was fiddling with his phone to contact the security office. He held his laptop close to his chest and started to run outside the building premises. He was looking around for help but couldn't find a single human for his rescue.

He could now feel the shadows luring behind him and while running he turned back only to find the danger right behind him. Mr. Murthy screamed after his left leg was shot and he stumbled on the road. His laptop went in a flash and crashed a few meters away. He was now crawling on the road while the shadows aimed their gun at him again.

...

9th APRIL 2016

11:30 P.M., MUMBAI

I was standing in the balcony listening to the susurrus of the sea while sipping my coffee. It had been 2 years since Appa had left me alone in this world, but somewhere my heart never accepted it. I knew there was something more to his death that was yet not revealed by the investigation which was still going on. I wished I had been there with him on that dreadful day. I wish I could have done something to save Appa, but I couldn't do anything for him who was My Hero.

I was talking to Amma and Appa who were the most beautiful shinning stars in the sky. "Amma and Appa I miss you, your Nandu loves you a lot. I promise you both that I will find the truth Appa. Your Kanna won't give up, I won't give up." A few lone tears meandered on my cheek. Appa was my life and after Amma left us he never made me feel her absence. He made sure that he filled the void of Amma in my life and always showered me with his unconditional love and fulfilled my every wish.

Appa used to hate my tears and I quickly brushed the lone tears from my cheek. "Cila Neranikalil alutu paravayilla Appa. [Sometimes crying is fine dad...] Now don't get angry Appa please... Amma please tell Appa to not get angry and look I am not crying, happy ..." I donned the brightest smile for them.

I knew I was just pacifying myself with talking to the stars and believed in the story Appa had told me when Amma left us. He said that she was the brightest star in the sky and I still believe in it. Appa left me alone in this world, but I promised myself to always try and be happy just for them. I promised myself like every night that I would continue to chase the truth behind my Appa's death. I retired to my bed and slept while murmuring a good night to my parents and Aiyappa.

10th APRIL 2016

10:15 A.M.

I stirred in my sleep with the constant buzzing of my phone and I tried to locate it on the bed with my eyes still closed. I answered the call in my sleepy voice "Hello, I am a bit busy so I will call you later". I heard a chuckle on the other side of the phone and Navya spoke with a sarcastic and dominating tone, "Nandini get up you lazy bone. We are supposed to meet for our day out with our friends, so you better get going. I'll reach your place in an hour ok." It did nothing but irritated me just as the sun rays that peeped from the curtains. She was my best friend and confidante.

I just hummed and kept the phone on the side pulling the duvet back on my face. The continuous noise of the doorbell disturbed my slumber and I got up with a jerk on the bed. It had to be Navya and I stormed to open the door before she makes me deaf by the non-stop ringing of the doorbell. I yelled her name and then opened the door for her.

She stood there with folded arms and was scanning me from top to toe. She furrowed her eyebrows on seeing my messy hair and nightclothes. She was back to her being my mom and bawled at me, "Nandini what is wrong with you??? Aryaman and Shahid would be reaching anytime. Now move swiftly to get ready..." She pushed me inside the bathroom and kept my clothes on the bed. She kept shrieking her usual stuff that I was the one who made the plan and how I always delayed everything. I quickly got ready and prayed to Aiyappa. Navya had left to pull the car from the parking lot.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we friends had decided to hang out. I quickly grabbed my handbag and my cell phone as my friends were waiting for me. I rushed outside and was ranting my chain of sorry to everyone for being late. We all headed to watch a romcom where our few more friends were waiting for us at the entrance with the tickets.

The movie went well and we headed for bowling. It was always fun and this time Aryaman and I had teamed up together. I must say he was superb at it and he made us win. We all headed out of the club and I was walking with Aryaman who nudged me. He glanced at me and then said, "Nandini are you ok?? What happened you seem to be lost?? You know you can speak to me".

I gave him a weak smile and knew I could speak to him, as we had become good friends in short span of time. "Aryaman, my Appa used to take me to bowling every weekend and you know whenever I used to even hit one ball, he would hug me and get happy about it. I miss Appa a lot..." He side-hugged me and gently caressed my arm to sooth my pain. He cleared his throat and asked all of us where we wanted to head for dinner while we were leaning on our cars. We decided to head towards a famous Italian restaurant for dinner. Navya and I loved eating out here and we blackmailed everyone for it.

We had a blast at dinner as we kept pulling Shahid's leg and were teasing him on his failed attempts to impress the girls. After having dinner our friends left. Aryaman and Shahid were constantly debating with us for dropping Navya and me home. However, I always felt such an urge to tell them that we both are grown ups and can manage on our own.

9: 45 P.M.

After persuading them that we can reach safely home on our own and to support our point I presented a few feminist facts and they finally agreed with us. Navya and I hopped in her car to make our way to my place. Navya halted the car by hastily applying the breaks, as there was a road diversion sign. I was a bit startled coz we had come from the same route a couple of hours back and the road was perfectly fine. However, we took the diverted route to our home and after a few minutes of ride Navya's car broke down with a jolt. The diverted route was quite deserted and we could hardly spot just a couple of vehicles that passed from there.

There was no network on our phones and then we stepped out of the car but we couldn't even spot a cab. We both were thinking of what we could do and then a car halted near us. The lady offered us only a short ride to a garage that was just about two kilometers away. I acted brave inspite of Navya asking me to accompany her and decided to stay back with the car.

I was playing a game on my phone in the car when suddenly I heard rumbling sound from the direction of the under construction building near our car. I got down and scanned the vicinity around me and was a bit astonished, as I didn't spot anything. Then I heard someone was shrieking with pain and I turned towards the building. I marched towards the entrance of the under construction building from where I could hear the squeals of a man.

I didn't spot anything on the ground floor and then climbed the first floor. I heard the rumbling sound again and I could judge that it was from the floor above. I paced my speed and reached the first floor, but the sight in front of me sent jitters through my body. I was shocked to see a man getting stabbed brutally in his stomach. I closed my mouth with my hands and my eyes were wide due to shock and terror. I was shuddering due to the sight in front of me and I stepped back. The small stones there made enough noise for the killer to turn back. He immediately looked at me and pushed the man away while he winced in pain on the floor.

He was very tall, well built and I could only see his face partially due to lack of light. His eyes radiated fire and were cold which could make anyone tremble with fear. I took a few steps back and the killer began to march towards me. I screamed and started to run downstairs hurriedly and I knew he was chasing me. I began to run on the deserted road when my ankle twisted, yet I ran and was trying to find someone who could help me.

I ran with all the stamina I had, but his pace was much quicker than mine. I could hear his footsteps behind me and then he tried to grab my shoulder from back. I stumbled on the road with the force with which he jostled to stop me. I got hurt on my head and blood started to ooze out from the wound. I turned back and finally saw him.

His face was hard as iron, jawline was clenched and his eyes were frightening. Every muscle of his body was tightened and his skin radiated fire. I was shuddering due to fear and tried to crawl back, but he dragged me on the road by holding my forearm. I winced in pain and was getting bruises on my leg. My clothes were torn from places and then with a force he got me on my feet. He harshly pulled me again to the nearby building wall.

He pinned me on the wall holding my forearms tightly. His gaze pierced through me and I stood there in trepidation. I couldn't utter a word and he lifted my hands above holding my wrists now. His grip was excruciating and I wriggled to set myself free but my efforts were futile. His lips curled slightly when he saw terror in my eyes and fear written all over my face. My body was quivering and then he left my one hand and traced his long slender fingers on my face that had blood dripping from his palm. I jerked his hand with disgust and he pressed my body more against the wall.

He said with a deep and frightening voice "Don't you dare open your small mouth about what you witnessed a few minutes back or else I'll not spare you..." He gave me a deadly look before he left my hand. I finally managed to muster the fighter inside me and said, "I will complain... " He surely didn't like what I said and pressed me hard against the wall again with full vigor and said by gazing straight into my eyes.

"You wanna complain, go ahead. But, nothing will happen beautiful... And yeah that's what you get when you mess with me." He let a slight sarcastic smile and held my hands tight. He kissed me with so much intensity that I wasn't able to handle. I tried to pullout and free myself, but he didn't budge away. He pulled away after a few seconds leaving a cut on my upper lip and blood oozing from it. I was shuddering and before I could react he left my hands with a jerk and moved away.

He left from there in a swift motion and vanished in a car that was parked nearby. I felt disgusted when he touched me and I wanted to fight back to tell him that I wasn't weak. I wiped the blood dripping with the back of my palm and then I took a few steps limping. Suddenly, I stepped on something that had fallen from his pocket and picked it up. It looked like an ID that was torn and had the name: MANIK MALHOTRA.

...

I was limping towards Navya's car as my leg was bruised and the ankle was sprained during the chase. Navya was approaching me with a man and they were stunned to see me in this condition. She helped me to reach the car and made me sit on the back seat. She quickly got some water for me to drink and I gulped a few sips. She was alarmed seeing me in this state and enquired as to what happened in such a short span.

"Navya I am fine please, please you take this man with you on the first floor. We need to rush him to the hospital. Go Navya I am fine, just go." She nodded and followed the way I told her to look for the man whom the killer had stabbed. I rested my head on the seat and closed my eyes to calm myself. After a few minutes Navya and the mechanic returned and informed me that there was no one up on the first floor and nor there was any trace of blood.

I was shocked as I had seen the killer leave without that man and was trying to tell Navya what I had witnessed. I was getting petrified and confounded after such a ghastly incident. She hugged me tight and soothed me by rubbing my back. She sat holding my hand till the mechanic fixed our car. It just took him 10 minutes to fix the issue, as it was a minor problem.

We started our drive towards my apartment. I wanted to visit a police station but Navya didn't agree and said we could go tomorrow morning to file the complaint. We reached my home and she supported me by placing my arm over her shoulder. We made our way to my bedroom and she made me sit on the bed. She rushed to get the first aid kit and I hissed in pain when she started to clean my wounds. She got fresh pair of clothes and helped me to change.

She placed her right hand on my cheek and with concern said, "Nandini just forget everything and please sleep. You need to rest Nandu and I promise in morning we'll think what we need to do ok." I nodded and she pulled the duvet over me. I couldn't sleep and the entire incident was playing in my mind. His cold and captivating eyes still were affecting me and then I traced my thumb on my lips and remembered the kiss. I promised myself to get him behind the bars soon.

NEXT DAY

I got up with a bad headache as the wound on my head was hurting a lot. Navya had called up a doctor for my check-up. After he left I went to the washroom to freshen up as I had decided to leave for the police station. I had taken a leave from work and so did Navya. We were sitting in the living area and had our breakfast in silence. I took my medicines and then was sipping my juice when my eyes got glued to the newspaper on the table.

HEADLINES:

Delhi based Industrialist Mr. Malik demises after 12 days of struggle at Bombay Hospital.

16h April 2016: Industrialist Mr. Malik was suffering from a prolonged illness and was admitted in Bombay Hospital for medication. He was declared dead late night around 11:45 P.M. by the doctors and a press release was done by the hospital post midnight...

I was completely baffled when I read the news and saw the picture of Mr. Malik. I knew it was a false claim that he died in the hospital, as he was the same man whom I had witnessed being stabbed last night. I was shocked and Navya got a bit astound by seeing my reaction when I threw the newspaper harshly on the table. She came next to me and held my hand to calm me down. "Navya this is a lie, Mr. Malik was murdered in front of my eyes and these newspapers are saying he died due to illness."

I got up from the couch and strolled towards my room with Navya running behind me as I was straining my leg. I took my bag, car keys and phone to leave for police station. She tried to stop me and said, "Nandini you wanna go and register a complaint. Ok fine we'll do it. Just let me drive you there please... Doctors have asked you not strain your feet." I nodded and we both left.

We reached the police station and told the officer in-charge that the news was false and I had witnessed the crime last night. But he didn't hear me once and asked us to leave, as there was no proof of such a crime and he denied the torn ID as a proof of evidence. I didn't stop there and marched to a few more police stations to get our complaint registered. However, the result was the same as none of them believed what I said and told me it was a medical case and not a murder.

It had been evening now and I was not able to get my case registered and that frustrated me. Appa had taught me that truth always prevailed and here in this situation no one was ready to believe what I had witnessed. I even explained the officers how the killer looked but they just didn't paid any heed to my talks. I wanted to fight for the truth and get that killer behind the bars.

In the next few days I had got better and was able to walk properly. The wound on my head was better, but the cut on my lip was still there which reminded me of the DEVIL. Everyday after work I tried to get in touch with authorities only to be left disappointed. I also tried to contact the relatives of Mr. Malik but they too believed he died due to illness and that I was putting up a fake story for publicity. It made me feel so low, yet I wanted to follow what my conscious was saying. My all efforts went in vain and there seemed to be no hope for justice.

16th APRIL 2016

I was siting with Navya, Aryaman and Shahid in a coffee shop, as they knew how disturbed I was due to that incident. They asked me to forget about it and move on in life. I knew they said it as they were concerned for me, but what could I do about my conscious and the morals I had grown up with in life. I kept quiet while they were chatting about politics and then my eyes wandered to the television screen that had breaking news being flashed.

BREAKING NEWS:

Government has declared a high security alert in all metro cities. Intelligence department has said that terrorist may plan to strike, so citizens should be careful. If you suspect something please inform the police.

I really didn't know what was happening in my vicinity and I just sighed. I informed everyone and made my way towards the washroom. While walking I pondered over the words HE had said to me that nothing would happen no matter how much I try. I wanted to find HIM and prove him wrong. I stopped walking when I felt someone's gaze on me and I turned around. I wandered my eyes in the entire coffee shop but found no one. I sighed deeply and then murmured under my breath, "Nandini calm down...you are just over-thinking".

I started to head towards the washroom when suddenly I bumped into someone. I lost my balance and someone held me. I just sighed in relief and then muttered a THANKS to the person. I tucked my hair behind my ear and then looked at the person who held me. I was stunned to see HIM. He was MANIK MALHOTRA.
