Box office is not the only indicator of good film or good acting.
Fan is an intense psychological thriller. It is overall a disturbing film.
- psychological thriller is a niche genre that does not have a universal audience
- there is no feel good factor to entice repeat viewing
- there is no humor or comedy to entice escapist viewers
- there is no moral lesson or patriotic touch to enthuse people
- there are no songs to lighten the mood or cut the tension
- there is nothing that appeals to families
Fan will underperform in box office due to the very nature of the film. Even in Hollywood some good movies underperform mediocre fantasy and superhero films.
This is not to devalue box office return. Net collections, ROI are important financial considerations. Salman Khan flicks do deserve credit for focusing on mass appeal and drawing crowds. But financial viability has no correlation with quality.
